One of these percentages is Minnesota’s shooting % in all situations, and the other one is Minnesota’s overall PP%. Which one is which?

7.14%
8.90%

Spoiler: it doesn’t f***ing matter which one is which.

Their PP shooting % right now is 1% higher than their 5v5 shooting %. It’s -8.2% lower than their PP shooting % last year.

PP% right now is half of what it was last year.

Is that what you guys think is happening? Long-term? That the power play’s effectiveness was literally cut in half?
I think you have to generate any kind of chances for % to matter. with that pp we've seen recently it doesn't matter. They look more dangerous 5 on 5 and even 4 on 5 then they do on the pp.

I don't give a damn about no shooting percentage. Way to often they lose the initial draw clean and the puck gets cleared (where's the stats on that?) Way too often the other team gets a better chance to score than the Rangers do...quality chances aren't being generated by the Rangers. it's a problem.

at best the PP right now is burning 2:00 minutes off the clock. it's a huge issue and contributing to losing games. it's not sustainable not because some f***ing spreadsheet said they got unlucky, but because (hopefully) an NHL Powerplay can't suck ass that much for so long.

At some point, glen sather needs to retire...and the people who built this team..might have to go. Jeff gordon

It’d look a lot more dangerous if Zibanejad could hit the goddamn net.
yeah but he's not and even if he did the pp is so predictable these teams are not giving him that shooting lane at all. There is zero threat right now.

The PP last year was predictable too. What team doesn’t have a predictable power play? Is there some team out there that tries to score from behind the net or something?

Dude is a terrible coach. His in game feel is worse than any of his predecessors, AV included.

He needs to be replaced. I'm not even overly upset about the PP (though a big fat LOL to throwing Strome back on the top unit and making an already ineffective unit even worse) but hes done so many things wrong this year. A half decent coach has this team in a playoff spot even with everything that has gone wrong this year.

I hope Panarin takes all the time in the world to recover since it will only further expose this clown.

or the PP setup sucks

They were setting up one-timers last year from high% spots. Now we pass in a circle

I’m not sure how anyone can defend the pp this year. I don’t care what stats are out there. What I watched tonight was an echl pp playing vs the 78 Canadiens

I may even come across as being a staunch supporter of him, but I’m not in particular - I just don’t agree that everything bad is his fault and nothing good is his doing. I think he has an average amount of flaws for an NHL coach. Could he better, could definitely be worse.

This is where I'm at.

Quinn feels like the majority of coaches in this league. Interchangeable and unremarkable. His "brilliance/stupidity" is entirely dependent on how talented his roster is or how much shooting%/save% luck he's getting.

There are definitely aspects of Quinn to criticize but the vitriol feels so over the top. I think if he got shit canned and replaced people would be really disappointed by how little changes if the roster remains untouched lol.

Caps had/have Kuz, Ov, Orlov, Samsonov all out for COVID protocol
Pitt has a slew of injuries/players out as well
Isles went to the conference finals last year with virtually the same roster

Those are the 3 teams ahead of us. We have been one of the most fortunate teams this year so far in regards to injuries/covid (knock on wood). The context is important
Sure context is important. Which is also why you look at the fact that the Rangers are outshooting, out chancing and are suppressing high danger chances as a team. And the. Look at the ZERO puck luck that someone like Lafreniere is having. They should be scoring and winning more.

Oh, and speaking of context, the youngest least experienced team in the league that, when healthy, starts 4 kids that cannot legally buy a 6 pack.

Which one is more likely: JD and JG don't want Gallant or Gallant doesn't want to coach here?

I like Gallant, but between Gallant and Babs, the former was let go twice in a very surprising manner. The situation with FLA was a mishap where you had a guy who was mostly an AHLer that maybe got a little power hungry, but with Vegas it was another surprise dismissal as well. But in both situations, my read was that he was canned because there was disagreements with the higher ups.

With Babs, you are going to get a personality who can be bigger than the team in front of the media.... and I don't think of that as a negative. Especially for this market. Both guys can squeeze a lemon if they have to. Babs gets a lot of winning miles when he has a backend with the right horses. I don't give a shit if he hurts a player's feelings. The players can feel better about themselves when they look at their next paycheck.

I think they need to look at moving on from him after this season.
Based on struck wins and losses?

If they continue as is and are in striking distance of a playoff spot, you will be gnashing your teeth when he is behind the bench next year

At the risk of being too optomistic (somthing I have rarely been accused of) I think games like last night will go a long way in the development of this team. They skated with one of the best teams in the league and didn't look out of place. They played different styles to match the Bs. They were excellent defensively. And, while they didn't score, they were without their best play and their second best player has been majorly struggling. If they can manage to get their powerplay, the results will start looking different.

There is still much to like. Results do not tell the full story.

I'll hang up and listen to why I'm wrong.

This place has now officially come full circle. Now we’re the optimists. We really need Melnyk to make an appearance.
Not sure it has really come full circle. I have no patience for older, overpaid guys playing like slugs (in the Poti, Kaminsky, Lefebvre, Quintal et al years) and losing.

But a young team playing hard, learning and growing and losing is different.

Exactly full circle.

Oh, what a debate with some of those HOF posters would be like now. Today, I could not even defend Purinton
