Here's some background on what led to Florida firing Gallant, from Doug Maclean on Real Kyper at Noon today. Analytics guy and minority owner would text Gallant during intermissions from the press box on what lines to play. Clearly Gallant did not like, which ultimately led to them butting heads and him getting fired by ownership.

What’s the background on him getting fired from Columbus and Vegas?

I like Gallant because I liked the balance of his Vegas teams. They had structure but guys could do their thing. Trotz, same thing. Cooper, same thing. That's where you wanna be.

The most enjoyable Rangers product I ever watched was 13-14 when we had that Jean Tortseault frankenstein.

I think we hired Quinn with the hope that we would get the Torts structure with AV's freedom for certain guys to score 4 goals in 3 minutes. Best of both worlds.

Instead we got AV's system and Torts' pointless yelling. Worst of both worlds.

The thing I’m a little apprehensive about is that Drury said that he plans to expand analytics, and believes in paying attention to that. Gallant would seem to be going against that sentiment? So I don’t see how that would work.

Larry with 3 consecutive articles selling Gallant and the most recent one talking down Tortorella. I can see Slats preparing fans for a Gallant hire and seeing it as more sensible and positive by talking down the very obvious fanfare around Tortorella. So Slats gets Larry to kill that idea and boost Gallant. If it's Gallant, the hiring would be within a week or less if he's leaving to Latvia for the Men's WC.

Welcome to the world where every statement and interview is going to cover every possible base as to give everyone a glimmer of hope for the approach they prefer.

We’re going to be an patiently aggressive, old-school analytics based follow your gut, intangibly physically skilled team with youthful leadership that isn’t expected to make the playoffs but will.

I think it depends on how its implemented. If you get very thorough scouting reports(with data analysis)that can help the coach pre-game. I think that can be beneficial.

But, if its some jackass, during the game, telling him line combinations. Thats so awful, I don't even want to expand on it.

Hockey isn't baseball.

Carp is saying in his latest that Sather was more involved in the events that got JD/Gorton/Quinn fired than the team is letting on

More of a sign that Carp reads/recycles conversations on this board. I saw people on here talking about that last week (not counting myself, as I just asked if Sather might have been involved).

Gallant won't be the coach. With Dolan showing his rear head again, expect a big name kind of signing. Messier, Babcock, etc. Also a lot of the young guns for Eichel. He wants a splash and he wants a playoff team now.

Been so busy, I didn't get to enjoy Quinn Dispatch Day.

Larry has Sather hand back up his backside and Sather is dabbling in ventriloquist again.

I dunno if this is good or bad.

I don't know Gallant is probably the hottest commodity among them. It is a big name as far as coaching goes.

Yea I totally get that. The line combo thing was definitely much. I just want them to be smart here and use the analytics for what it’s supposed to be used for, evidence. I don’t want a blind eye turned to it. That’s how we end up with Jack Mother f***in’ Johnson.

I'll give Quinn this: he genuinely seems like a nice guy and (sorry David) had the right intentions. He just sucks at managing people at this level because he never worked with NHL veterans and had a hard time going up against NHL coaches.

I have more respect for that than AV who has trouble managing people because he's a conceited shitbag who thinks he invented hockey, and struggles against other coaches because he'll never adjust God's perfect system.

Not sure what's funny.

If they're not a contender the season after next the rebuild has failed.

This is the most talented young Rangers team since the early 70's.

How are you defining "contender"? I think the season after next this team could be expected to make it past round one, but a Cup would be something of a cinderella run. The year after that, with the experience of a playoff run under their belts, I might expect something more. To me a contender is a team that is expected to be in that final four group of teams. I have nothing to back this up, but my sense is that most teams make a run and miss before they really start making runs as a contender. I suppose it's all just an issue of semantics, though.

Yes he is. Among hockey fans and people with some understanding for the game. Dolan is neither of those things and has most likely never heard of him.

Well if thats the case: outside of Torts, he doesn't know anybody. So, it doesn't matter.

If he is told by others he trusts(Sather)that Gallant is the best coach available. He will believe it.

I don't think that's being too unreasonable. :sarcasm:

Twilight Zone playoff can choices:

1. Jon Cooper
2. Bruce Cassidy
3. Brind’ Amour
4. Trotz
5. Pete Debeor
6. Mike Sullivan
7. Quennville

(5,6,7 interchangeable)

could be missing some, what we think fellas
What are the chances one of these guys could be canned out of the blue from an early exit? Sullivan I would think realistically.
