Right now, I suspect the answer is no.
Who then? Torts? doubt he can change and the change *in him* is needed
Knoblauch? who knows, but there's not enough to judge by his games with the first team, predictably had been relying on the vets, also not only his decisions.
Tocchet? no idea.
Is Roy even in the running?

I will say this, if the new coach cannot get these guys to play a more simplified game, reduce the Tic-Tac-Toe BS and learn to generate offence off the cycle and not always off the rush, we are going to have the same issues that we have been having with Quinn.

And for goodness sake, can we get some commitment from someone to drive the net on a regular basis?!? PLEASE???

Roy and Tocchet are the two guys I do not want

but gallant Boudreau julien Hartley even torts and Babcock are all HUGE upgrades over Quinn.

This entire fiasco was so unavoidable. Instead of shoring up some weaknesses this offseason and solidifying the roster, they're dealing with a fiasco created by a spoiled child.

Who doesn’t have a short shelf life among the provided list?
well all coaches do at this point. But he falls under the Torts' category.

It's effective but the players get tired of it. Which is fine IMO. A head coach/boss is not your friend. New York Rangers has become a Mickey Mouse play club

If Torts hadnt previously coached the team, he would be the favorite for the job now. I actually think it could work with the skill on this team, but its extremely risky.

let's get Gallant
I am open to considering this.
Need to be reminded of pros and cons w/him.

A step in the right direction, as long as they don’t bring in Torts or Messier.
Or AV.

that said,
glad to see Q and his Gauthier prejudiced ass out the door.

Also, forget you for not giving Boo a fair shake and playing that utter pos Lias instead.

sorry hell to the no

remember, this is the idiot who shortened the productivity and effective careers of Girardi and others with all the excessive shot blocking

bite me Torts

Do you one better. Sept. 18, 2021, preseason opener, 7:10 PM, first complaint on the new coach.
It won’t take that long. Everyone of these coaches has warts.

Torts is a rerun who was run out of NY by his players
Babcock is a hardass with kids
Montgomery is a drunk
Hartley has been gone from the NHL too long
Gallant keeps getting fired despite his success
Tocchet couldn’t get Arizona into the playoffs and he feuded with his better players
Patrick Roy? Really?

The bitching will start before the first press conference has finished.

If you want Fox to look like McDonagh did in 2017 (that's to say, smoked) then you should be rooting for Torts.

Does Hartley connect with the current NHL game? I like his Russian credentials.

Amongst the things I want in a new coaching staff:

1. To have better systems in place in all 3 zones from the get go.
2. I want more consistency with how the entire roster is handled. One thing I really didn't love with Quinn is how long his leash was with vets and how short his leash was with younger players. Bench any player who isn't playing well. But when a player is going, specifically younger guys -- find them more ice. For the youngins there was too many sticks not enough carrots. Figure out a way to integrate the kids on the PP (even if not a regular) so if they're going well, they're contributing more. And for the love of god --- figure out a way to not let special teams play derail the usage of your younger players in a given game.
3. I want a coach that does a better job of getting the team prepared to play every game.
4. A coach that knows how to make in-game adjustments to systems to overcome what the other team is doing. It can't just be all on the players to "want it more." The situational coaching was not as good as we've seen in the past.
5.And it's not just adjustments in system but also keeping the team from getting knocked off their game after a goal or penalty. It's a coach that instills such a work ethic and desire to win that the team isn't allowed to slump in the middle of a game. It still happens, but the frequency of the in-game slumps were a bit much. Young teams may not score, they may make mistakes, but the right coach can have them going balls out because of how he motivates his players. The drawback of allowing Mika a ton of TOI to find his game and over-playing Panarin even when he isn't having a great game is that it makes it hard to instill a never stop mentality throughout the lineup.
6. I want a coach that doesn't make excuses for the team. I don't ever want to hear a coach say in a presser, "that goal was the backbreaker." Was the assessment inaccurate? No. Do I want to hear it from the coach? No. I want to hear the coach say we can't let the ebs and flows of a game effect our effort and our swagger. (Can I get a bonus point for using the word Swagger?)
7. Finally, I wonder if the best coach for this team is one that the players don't like as much. Make the team bond with each other. Not the coach. There seemed to be too much turmoil this season. That often happens when the leadership isn't strong enough and when players are too comfortable. Teammates will always dislike each other but there shouldn't a culture where those things have enough oxygen to come to the surface.

Finally, my biggest criticism of Quinn was he's maybe more of a babysitter than a hockey coach. Next coach, I want more accountability period to period, shift to shift

just like he ruined Marner, Matthews, and Nylander

I think this is a very relevant point to be honest, and one that shouldn’t be lost with everything else.

I don’t care one effin bit about what “epithet” a coach has or gets or whatever. Result is what matters.

The pros and cons with someone like Babcock are obvious:

+He is super ambitious and driven and will leave no stone unturned. From top to bottom, he will have a plan for everything when the season starts. It will be a realistic plan, and as a result kids will develop really well under him. Simply “according to plan”.
+ He is very open minded to changes in the game, very skilled with the analytic sides.
+Being a proven winner gives him a a bit leeway with NY media, he knows what it takes.

—If it ever was effective, kids of today are just way too mature, prepared for life, to really be subject to the “mind games” Babcock likes so much. It’s not for this generation.

If three player stands in a group talking and two of them are say Ryan Lindgren and Chris Kreider who Babs likes and the third aren’t one of his favorites — Babs will have lost the respect of three guys if he says “Morning Chris and Ryan” acting like the third don’t exist.

—Outside of our division, many succesfull teams plays a man-man defense and many coaches out there are clear man-man guys. Babcock is one, Bruce B another. Do we really want to go back to that? It’s a minus for me.

I'm guessing Martin was laid off for a clean slate. I hope the new coach will consider bringing him back though. He was a panacea for our defense this year. But perhaps the new coach can do better so <shrug>
The Rangers have really not had any karma with coaching. Keenan wins the cup, immediately bounces. I think Torts is the only bonafide top coach we've had in ages (and he should have been promoted over freaking Ron Low!). AV made the finals with us and Vancouver but I cringe giving him a "top" coach title. DQ first time in NHL. I think Colin Campbell got his first HC gig after Keenan bounced. An out of touch John Muckler, hand written application disaster Bryan Trottier, confused Ron Low. Tom Renney wasn't too bad. Like DQ, I think he served his purpose. Like Panarin, Renney had Jagr.

I honestly wouldn't be on the ledge over two years of Torts, in a vacuum, depending on how he got along with some of our players.

Hartley is the one option I want absolutely nothing to do with. His Flames teams broke records for shot blocking.
