Everything that’s happened here with the front office and coaching staff is spot friggen on.

all of this needed to be done. A total circus for two years Dolan saw it, he had what many consider to be a star GM in the making (Drury) waiting in wings and he pulled the trigger.

Dolan believes he knows basketball. He feels he can help the knicks (he doesn’t) He has a passion for basketball. I have met the man many times I’ve been invited to his suite I’ve talked to him about hockey. He wants to win but he admits he knows very little about the game. He trusted sather to do the work because he didn’t want to be involved. People seem to think otherwise but it’s not the case when it comes to hockey.

what he clearly didn’t like was seeing his proud franchise look like a circus for 2 years after sather stepped down and clearly a lack of loyalty.

He did exactly the right thing. And Drury is doing exactly the right thing now. Firing a guy that had no idea what he was doing at the nhl level. His next move should be to fire Gordie Clark too.
What he clearly didn't like was missing out on ticket revenue for a season and a half and that he wouldn't be getting playoff ticket prices this year either.

Too bad most coaches don't seem to learn from their mistakes and are too stubborn to change or even modify their philosophies even a little bit. If Torts was neutered by about a third think he'd be a hit
Which means that often a coach has success because his strengths and weaknesses match up with the roster he's given, so the stubbornness isn't an issue....until the roster changes and he won't adapt. Timing is important.

Since we’re doing all the things, I think it would be best to have someone skate out on opening night with the “C” too. I think the lack of captaincy has become a liability. When it all goes wrong, the weight of needing to lead falls upon the man deemed leader. The Rangers don’t have that person, and I think that’s at the very least played a small part in the listless performances against top divisional foes throughout this past season.

I would be shocked if we didn’t have a captain for opening night. Another ridiculous lack of leadership that’s been a sore spot for years

Looking at the list of possible coaches, I'm struck with the vision of having to navigate a mine field to find and diffuse one particular mine.

Everything that's happened in the last week and a bit may end up okay, but for the first time during this re-build, I have genuine worry.
I think the move was more or less a given after JG/D were let go. I also think they feel there's a failsafe in Knoblauch.

I think a lot of posters are re-writing the narrative here with rose-colored glasses.

We're less than a year removed from the Rangers agreeing to let Drury interview with other teams for GM vacancies and nobody seemed to really care.

News Article: - Rangers give Panthers permission to talk to Chris Drury

ha! I’m not rewriting anything I’ve been complaining about this circus daily.

As far as Drury goes he’s been a rising name for a few years now not sure who would have said otherwise but no one here did

The C will be assigned when someone deserves it. Not a fan of giving it out to try and motivate a player to be something they are not. I'm fine with not having one until someone has clear cut earned it

Why is he not? I don’t know a ton about him but nothing seems particularly interesting or promising

Just a hunch, honestly. To be fair though, I don't have the knowledge or understanding of what makes a good NHL coach, or understand the fine intricacies of systems, like majority of the posters here. But he was a former player who can speak their language, walked the walk kinda thing. I think he can help instill the right attitude and culture (if that really was an issue) and knows what it takes to win in the playoffs. But most importantly his last name isn't Tortorella, Boudreau, Babcock, Roy, or Hartley.

Timing. Why would they drag out the ineviable a few extra days? Figured after exit interviews and talking to all the players it either solidified their stance on Quinn or helped in pushing him out the door.

Occam's Razor would suggest that due diligence is a more likely explanation than locker room problems.

I'm not surprised by this move; the writing was on the wall from last week. I'm not jumping for joy like some here are, though I was not a huge Quinn supporter. He will learn from this experience and take that into his next coaching job.

As for who takes over; let the speculation begin (it already has). I do not want Torts III. Gerard Gallant, Bob Hartley, Mike Babcock, etc. will be the coaches most rumoured here. You can probably look at who Chris Drury has played for or been coached by as to whom he may hire. If they are in a "win now" mode, you can rule out a young guy, i.e. Knoblauch from Hartford, another team's Assistant Coach, etc. I wouldn't mind Gallant, though you'd have to look into what happened at his previous 2 spots where he was let go, despite winning records. Babcock thinks he invented hockey. Hartley ha been out of the NHL for a few years.

Fair enough. I really, really don’t want Roy or Babcock. The rest aren’t ideal but they’re the worst case scenarios imo.

I'm in the same boat. It's more about me not wanting all the names mentioned but I do think Tocchet might be good for this squad. No one really knows. People here are just screaming names they read on the Twitter. Can anyone honestly breakdown why Gallant would be better fit than Boudreau or Torts better than Babcock? The answer is no.
