I’ve talked some shit about Don Sweeney and Cam Neely in the past.

I’m officially taking back anything negative I’ve ever said about them. Today begins a clean slate and a new chapter.

I’m sorry, guys.

Thank you for your hard work.
I said the same thing after the Bertuzzi trade... if Don signs pasta now i'll never say another bad word about him... then poof Pasta signs... Don Sweeney is going to break the internet today.

Front loaded for his prime years. This is a very good deal. Will look even better if he can stay consistent into his 30s.

I remember rooting for the Red Sox in the 2007 playoffs and JD Drew was at the plate with the bases loaded. I said out loud that if he hits a grand slam here, I’ll take back everything I ever said about him. Sure enough he hit a grand slam and the Sox cruised from there on out to the World Series title.

Sticking with the Sox theme, this feels like 2004 when they went all-in. I really think they have a great shot at this.

Things aren’t that bleak moving forward, either.

You’ve got your goalies locked up.

You’ve got your #1 and # 2 defensemen locked up.

You’ve got your top winger locked up.

You’ve got enough pieces that you can deal from a position of strength to go get your future center.

Will it cost you? Yes.

Will it cost you something you really don’t want to part with? Yes.

But you’ve got options.

The next top two centers will come via free agency and the draft - one each. You can’t hope to find two in the draft and two via trade/FA would be too expensive.

That’s a problem for another season.

I wonder if during the offseason they consider trading Debrusk in a package for a C, knowing he'll be getting a pretty good raise the following year. Then Bertuzzi comes back to replace Debrusk
