Still makes me nervous. It really has nothing to do with cap space as they got like 6-7 forwards signed next season, granted you do try to haggle a bit, but should not burn any relationship with him as he is the golden goose for the future. He and Mac are the poster boys for the team once the old guard moves on.

I still feel like this is more Pasta wanting to see how next off season shakes out. Really a lot of the team could change next season, at least the forwards, I think D is set until the following off season, but forward group could change drastically and since we have no rookies playing it’s not like there is a guaranteed one to take a spot next year.

Rich Keefe isn't going just toss something like this out there. He used to work at both 98.5 and WEEI

Again they have only like 6-7 forwards signed at the end of this season. Could be both Krejci and Bergeron retire, who’s his center? Coyle is the only one signed right now. So that has to shake it out if it happens which again probably won’t know until the off season. So maybe there is a wait and see approach there. Hopefully I am wrong and that these rumors he will sign soon is true. Id like to see it done sooner as would we all. Just thinking of other reasons other than money that could hold up the talks.

I’m saying…who else would be in play to sign him?

Oh, He’s a FA, basically his choice of any team calling. Other than cap issues some teams can work out, there isn’t one team that wouldn’t try to fit Pasta if he is on the open market

The Pasta situation reminds of a funny story about Ted Williams. Back in the 80's he did an interview and was asked that if he was a free agent during his prime years and George Steinbrenner wanted to sign him then how much would he ask for. Without missing a beat Williams replied " George - you and I are about to become equal partners ".

Hot take.

Teams still stacked with out Bergeron and krecji. This idea that the team would fall off a cliff is ridiculous. Lots of amazing players are locked in beyond this year. The whole defensive core for instance. The two solid goalies. The super deep winger position.

Every team in the world

Well you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. There's a lot of " experts " over on the main board that say the Bruins will be a mediocre team in about 2 seasons and Pasta will want to sign with a team that's contending. They must know more about our team then you and I do. ;)

Ya you right. This team should sell and try and get beddRd. The window closed two seasons ago.

I think Dimaggio did a similar thing also.

The other teams keep hoping that the Bs will fall off a cliff. I hope Bergy signs for at least another year BUT if he doesn't there are still many good players on the Bs.

Wish it was less, but PLEASE BE TRUE
Be grateful it isn't 13 or 14, 11 is a steal. That is one of the reasons I can't see this being true. I don't think anybody would leave 16 to 20 million dollars on the table.

Hope I am wrong but I still see Pasta going to free agency.

He still one of the best players in the league and arguably still the top defensive forward in the game. I don't see him hanging them up just yet, unless the Bruins win the Cup, and it would be justice for Bergy to go out on top. But either way I feel its a very good possibility he comes back on another one year deal for salary cap purposes.

I'd think something between Panarin & Kane is market value (based on CH%). That would put him on the open market between:

$12,075,000 - $12,860,900

If you spread that same hit for 7yrs over 8yrs then it brings the hit down to $10,565,625 - $11,253,287. I don't see anyone paying Pasta between 13 and 14 million, nor are there many competitive teams that could offer him that.
