How can the price keep going up ?

Isn’t there a salary cap ?

He’s getting around 11.5 M per ~ 70% of teams can’t afford him and those like Chicago and Ducks aren’t good, can’t go 8 years, and can’t offer a team like this

If his agent said sign this tomorrow he would

The fact he’s leading the league in turnovers has no bearing on the dollars

11 X 8 I’m landing on

Everything is bonus payments and structure causing delays

I don’t think the cap figure isn’t official yet ?

He can ask for whatever but he would be dumb to price out Bergeron and/9r Krejci but then again maybe he would have chemistry with Asselin and Beecher

In an email reply to an inquiry for an update on the contract extension talks between David Pastrnak and the Bruins, Pastrnak’s agent J.P. Barry told Boston Hockey Now that he remains in constant communication with Sweeney.

“I continue to speak to Don on a regular basis. I can’t really go into specifics as it doesn’t really help the process at this stage,” told BHN Thursday morning.

That's a pretty good update. They are negotiating and will get it done.. the worst possible update would be no update at all.

Not having him signed before Christmas is hugely impactful to the merch bottom line. How many people are going to shy away from pasta merch with his future in question with the franchise

Apologies for an optimistic take but...
Do you guys think this winning streak could help in getting a team friendly deal?
I could easily envision a scenario where Sweeney points to the team and stresses how the system works and how they can bring in guys to play with like Hall, Krejci and Lindholm because everyone leaves some money on the table.

I know it's their careers, and Pasta is worth a lot, but IMO the difference between $9.5 and $12.5 is ego.

Dunno but the difference between 9.5 million and 12.5 million looks like 3 million dollars a year to me.

A guy works his whole life to get this level, has a 10 year window to make enough money to se my his whole family straight for 2 generations and you think selfish “ego” is what’s in the way here?

3.5M/year over 8 years is $28M.

Two generations? They better hire a better money manager :)

Guys. Take a breath. It was meant to be an optimistic thought. I never said 'selfish' nor did I actually say/nor think that Pasta is ego driven in that regard. (Some players are - we've all seen that) I also fully understand the money is real.

Just was wondering if the Bruins start to the season might be a selling point in getting his cap-hit a bit lower than he'd otherwise be worth. We've seen other great players do that - Crosby, Bergeron, Stamkos, etc. -
Or if his amazing play this season is just going to keep adding to it.

Say hello to 2023-2024’s highest paid player. :sarcasm::naughty:

The only thing close to a negative right now is that Pasta isn’t signed. Get it done Donny
I think it’s an off-season thing. I don’t think they will be signing during the season. He a smart kid. He knows to wait until he scores 65 goals 100+points :p

This Bruins team is firing at all cylinders, has incredible depth and scoring up and down the lineup, but it's remarkable just by how far Pastrnak is leading the team in scoring.

16-18-34 in 23 games. That puts him 14 points and 7 goals clear of 2nd (Bergy). Prorated to the 23 games, Marchand and McAvoy are at pace with him in assists but would both still be comfortably behind him in goals and points (McAvoy's sample size isn't enough to be intellectually fair to compare either).

Pasta really is the straw that stirs the drink this year.

I said it before, and will say it again.
If all Pasta wants is money, he is gone. This team won't max out his salary, but some team out there will.
If he's willing to get paid reasonable money, play in a great environment, with a competitive team, Donnie
will get it done. Pasta's only concern might be what if PB and DK retire after this year.

Spent an hour on Cap Friendly trying to find a good team with #1 center and cap space

None

Seattle would work but need to remove at least two $5 M players like Eberle & Bjorkstrand

If he’s willing to go to Chicago or Ducks that could work

I think the sticking point isn't the money or term but the lockout protection and the trade clauses.
