The more Sweeney hesitates the higher the price will be, and Pastrnak starts thinking about the additional millions he will be offered in free agency....
I don’t think it’ll get to that point, he’ll re-sign.

I’d be pretty surprised if we offered over 11 and pasta didn’t take it

If we did that is scary to me

Only 7 guys in the league make over 11

Only 1 winger makes over 11 and that’s Panarin at 11.6

So maybe he wants to be paid as the highest winger in the league ?

But he is reaching if he is asking for over 12 he is not close to McDavid/McKinnon level
Yeah think he’s gonna get more than he’s probably worth around the league as a winger but his worth to the Bruins is more than market. Bruins can’t afford to lose him so he can afford to ask for more.

It hasnt been perfect. Krug situation is an example. Lost him for nothing also

I'm not siding with Sweeney. But perhaps ... Point, Kucherov contracts are a point of reference. And some form of hometown discount is sought out/to maintain a competitive team
It is, but look what Sweeney's done with those discounts.

Not for nothing, I'd rather that we have an overpaid Pastrnak than Sweeney overpaying bottom 6 or bottom pair D by a million or 2 each.

Ideally, we don't overpay anyone. But IF I've seen what Sweeney's done with our cap space, all the good negated by the bad has been a wash (if not worse, because he's had to pay to get rid of at least 3 of our contracts)

I dont disagree

The thinking behind Don/Jacobs could be... dont overpay. Or else guys like Debrusk etc will ask for a bump as well

Look at a team like the Leafs. Only like 5 big contracts...and they keep losing players/unable to resign due to a lack of cashflow.

Teams like Tampa, Avs and Blues have remained competitive....due to a more balanced lineup. Bruins also fit into this category....even with some suspect bottom 6 signings

End of the day...I think the Bruins are at 9.5 to 10.5m per with all the trimmings. Such as full NTC etc. But Pasta/camp want 8 year @ 100m And they know they can get that next offseason during free agency...

Perhaps its just a humility/chicken game....for Don or assistant gm to call agent periodically....desire to sign him/even if they cant budge on the money. Instead both sides just standing pat....waiting for the other guy to make a move.

Maybe (hopefully!) the last three days have no bearing on Pastrnak resigning here, but I can't imagine seeing this level of organizational incompetence---for a disgusting person---being a good thing in getting him to stay.

If I know Bruins PR like I think I do, J.P. Barry is about to receive an email with a hefty increase over the last offer.

I don't think this MM situation has any barring or effect on his next contract. I do think they're gonna up the offer. They cannot afford to lose him. PR is in shambles. Wouldn't surprise me if they sign him and announce it tomorrow to try to sway folks away from the disaster of MM.

If Pasta signs elsewhere for the same/less money than the Bruins offer cause of the MM mess I'll be furious.

you absolutely, positively have to fire Sweeney and Neely to let guys like Pastrnak know that they and the team are in competent hands. That's far from the most important aspect of this whole debacle, but it has to be said.

This is a band of brothers. Sounds to me like the team leaders addressed it in the room and are moving on with hockey. The players still have integrity. The fans with their outcry have shown they still have integrity. The city won't change over this incident. Pasta knows this. Only effect of the Miller situation is that, as others have suggested, might be wise for PR purposes to quickly sign him even if it means giving in to his agent more than desired.
