He wasn’t signing in Anaheim. So for them, he was a UFA.

A first, two seconds and a young roster player is a pretty standard price for this type of deal. I doubt the Ducks would have done better otherwise.
Yes good deal Verbeek to the best offer.

I see people talking about 11M for 8 years, and I thought it was worth quickly noting that that's 88 million.

88 for 88 seems nice.

Just ordered a Pasta all-star jersey since the B's Proshop screwed me on my Pasta reverse retro lol. Love the throwback design. I was fortunate enough to get to go to the 96 All Star game here in Boston as a kid and I loved the jerseys that year. Still have a teal Bourque Eastern conference all star jersey.

I’d guess

Bruins want him at 8x9.5
Pasta camp want him at 8x12

Find a happy medium guys

8x10.75

Donny will get it done

Pasta could tear his acl tonight and lose a lot of leverage

It’s best for both parties to get it done soon
They paid McAvoy 9.5 do you think Pasta should be paid less than him?

I was wondering something. Since next season is looking tight cap wise, but after that it is supposed to get better, would something like this be possible: sign Pasta for a 1-year deal for next season with a lower cap hit, but with a gentleman’s agreement that on the first day possible in July he gets a new 7-8 year contract extension with a higher cap hit that will compensate him for taking a lower salary for one year. Essentially, split his next deal into two deals 1+8. This way, the risk for Pasta of taking only a 1 year deal is taken care of by signing an extension in the summer and the Bruins would get some flexibility next season and still lock-up Pasta long-term. Not sure, if this would be legal or acceptable for either party, just a thought.

possible..not the way you have it.
He could sign a one year but then cant do another until Jan 1st I believe,
So huge risk. He and his agent would be nuts to do so. Nuts.

Yeah, in that case it is not really an option. Big risk for him. Though, not unheard of. Marian Hossa took a 1-year deal in his prime to play for the Red Wings, leaving massive offers from other teams on the table. Still, I wouldn’t expect that.

Pastrnak is a great player but at some point the cap space is worth a lot. My understanding is the cap still has a chance of going up significantly next year if the players pay off the escrow due to the pandemic. Instead of 1-2M increase we could see 4+M. This may be part of the factoring to wait and see? Who knows, I personally think 11M is too much if we want to win. If Pasternak goal is to make 100M versus 80M and win a cup, then we need to move on. My guess on a mediocre team most of the contract he is 35 goal 75 point guy with +/- of -8. Not a 60 goal, 120 point guy for 8 consecutive years. Please do not pay him like he is Macdavid.

Is it too much though?

Let's say over the course of that 8 years the cap goes up by 12M or more. The impact of a 11M cap in 2023-24 is nothing like that of 2019-2020 when some guys signed then. We'll be seeing 15M players before too long, and feel pretty good about having one of the best pure goal scorers in the league. He's also a heart and soul guy too (which is worth some money in itself).

There’s 30 D men close to McAvoy even if for my money he’s the best D in the league.

Pasternak is in a group of 3-4 elite goal scorers where the next group of guys is nowhere close.

Shame the deal isn’t done yet.
McAvoy is a top 4 or 5 defenseman, a position far more important then RW. Furthermore Pastrnak for all of his offense is a turnover machine, this dosen't get mentioned a lot because he has played with great 2 way players like Bergeron, Marchand and Krejci and the Bruins overall defensive structure is so strong it minimizes these mistakes. If we was playing for another team without all the security that the Bruins provide his 2 way play would come under a lot more scrutiny. That being said let's hope that Sweeney gets this done soon.

McAvoy is in a group of about 8 D-Men, not 4-5. Hedman, Makar, Josi, Fox, Dahlin, Heiskanen, Morrissey and McAvoy.

Pasta is 27 in May, we sign him north of 11M we better hope cap doesn’t ever go down. Mac got overpaid but it’s 25-33, and likely next Captain or a future Captain. If they heavily front load the deal and make it lockout protected, I’d hope he would sign for less for the benefit of winning a lot of hockey games.

ESPN's Emily Kaplan reports that the Bruins and Pastrnak are "very close" on a contract extension.

She's like the 5th person who reported this the past 4 months. I hope it's true but there really isn't any reason for him not to get other offers in July at this point. I hope he signs.

Yeah, no. Market value is market value. Scoring is always a premium that will get paid in this league.

I have him in the top 2 on the team alone.
