Although I like Nonis as the new GM, this is a terrible decision.

I hate you Rogers and Bell.

Congrats Burke haters

The BOG now calls the shots.

Terrible future for this team.

I don't care that he was fired, that's fine. But the timing is so piss poor. Wait until the end of the season, wait until the first losing streak... anything.

Why wait until before the start of a new season, it allows the next guy no room to really evaluate the talent or get comfortable with the job. They should have made this move at the end of last season or before September.

By that presser, Nonis will just be an extension of Burke. What major shake up is there, unless Nonis is more willing to bend to the demands of MLSE.

This is the only problem I have with it. It could be any one else making the shots, but now its greedy, rich, non-hockey minds making the calls.

Burke has been in the job long enough. He had his chance, and by every metric he failed.

Companies like Rogers and Bell are successful because they set goals, and they expect their people to achieve good results. Burke hasn't had good results in any of his years on top.

Good to see the Leafs finally setting expectations for their people.

And charge a lot of money for their product. They'll fit right in with the Leafs.

Long live the Rogers/Bell Maple Leafs.

The new guy has been there all along. The Corporate interference is the scary part.

they fired Burke because of his style but gave the job to a guy who has the same style wtf

his style with the media is what they really meant

Yeah this is what I got out of Nonis' statements. Seems like he wants to bring more youth into the organization. Luongo seems to be the opposite of this plan.

I hope this is true. That means we get to let the kids play instead of having some veteran plugs.

That's an awful reason. If that's really the justification of this firing I'm going to be pissed. That's not a hockey move, that's a ****ing corporate move. Ridiculous.

That is what it is sounding like, they seem really confident on the corporate reason and mentioned the Kessel deal for about a minute

I've just read the news now and shocked - If it becomes clear that this was a result of Burke holding fast on not trading for Luongo and then Nonis trades for him I don't know how I'm going to be able to continue to have hope for this organization. Everyone and their dog knows trading for Luongo is NOT a LONG-TERM solution to the viability and competitiveness of the team and if MLSE is so short-sighted that they fire a proven GM because he's steadfast in defending the LONG-TERM interests of putting a competitive team on the ice then I seriously think I may have to re-evaluate my allegiance to this team. It will be the most glaring example of organizational mismanagement seen in pro sports in a long time and you can be sure we'll be even more of a laughing stock than we are already.

Speculation I know and as mentioned the opposite could be true, but man oh man do I have a bad feeling about this.

Corporate interference, ****. If you want to run the Leafs, buy them and appoint yourself as the GM. Why have a GM then?

This is a mystery for Sherlock.

The puppet has been put back into place.

Yup.

The Leafs aren't going to see any changes in the way things happen. Nonis and Burke were the same person. One was just louder than the other one.

What will Nonis' impact move be? I personally don't think its going to be Luongo. I bet he gets a bigger fish before the season starts.

Not to throw Brian under the bus. ...*throws Burke under the bus*

lol wasn't that his reaction face when that girl asked "Did you see this coming?" That's a great reaction pic.:laugh:

Do you think that wouldn't happen in corporate culture/ hockey culture?

That might be a bit optimistic.

Even though I am clearly pro-gay rights, I think that something like that would obviously be brushed under the rug. Don't be so quick to jump on people

I would hold the same faith you do if this didn't reek of Corporate interference at it's finest. If Luongo ends up in a Leaf jersey for too big of a package, I'll know for sure that this is ownership pulling the strings. Shouldn't take too long to see those results.

Absolutely. It's a grim day for me, I loved Burke, and I really did have a lot of faith in him bringing some success to this organization. If Nonis can do his job and carry on with the kind of direction that we've seen us moving in over the past couple of years (getting younger, faster, stronger, with more character), then I think he can do really well here. But I agree, if we see a guy like Kadri or Gardiner moved for Luongo, I will be very, very upset. We should know pretty soon if he takes a more aggressive approach to acquire some talent to help us win now, but Nonis can't say in his presser that what separates him from Burke is that he has more patience and then ship off high-end prospects or high draft-picks for a veteran starter with a bloated contract.

Really have no idea what will come out of this.
