Why do you keep saying this. If this is true t would had happened. Burke had ample time to do the deal with Van to overpay for Toronto. A more likely scenario would be that Burke was unwilling to overpay, whiled management wanted to get it done at all cost, thus being fired to facilitated that by promoting they guy who has previously traded for Luongo.

Where've you been the last couple months? No CBA - no trades. CBA is signed this week.

I've just read the news now and shocked - If it becomes clear that this was a result of Burke holding fast on not trading for Luongo and then Nonis trades for him I don't know how I'm going to be able to continue to have hope for this organization. Everyone and their dog knows trading for Luongo is NOT a LONG-TERM solution to the viability and competitiveness of the team and if MLSE is so short-sighted that they fire a proven GM because he's steadfast in defending the LONG-TERM interests of putting a competitive team on the ice then I seriously think I may have to re-evaluate my allegiance to this team. It will be the most glaring example of organizational mismanagement seen in pro sports in a long time and you can be sure we'll be even more of a laughing stock than we are already.

Speculation I know and as mentioned the opposite could be true, but man oh man do I have a bad feeling about this.

I feel the same way .. ****

Let's go Blue Jays!

So basically let's break this down WWE style.

Rogers and Bell is Vince McMahon.

Brian Burke was Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Dave Nonis is John Cena.

Vince McMahon needs a yes man, a kiss ass, a man that will do whatever Vince McMahon wants to say.

With that said, Dave Nonis vs. Brian Burke in a steel cage match.

One thing is this, apparently, Brian Burke was too aggressive and burned some bridges with some GMs the way he handled himself, and they want a more corporate democratic dude who is not stepping on toes, enter Dave Nonis.

Folks....lets think about this logically, who fires a GM saying "we chose to go in a different" direction but immediately appoints a new GM who has worked "his entire adult life for Brian Burke". On top of that, Burke stays on a senior advisor to the board and Anselmi???

As my previous post, which is barried somewhere back when this story broke, there is more to this than is being reported. I was told that Burke was fired for "non-hockey related issues".

Does that not make a bit more sense than what is being reported in the media? Why would they keep the guy as senior advisor to the board if they don't like his hockey sense?

Burke has been in the job long enough. He had his chance, and by every metric he failed.

Companies like Rogers and Bell are successful because they set goals, and they expect their people to achieve good results. Burke hasn't had good results in any of his years on top.

Good to see the Leafs finally setting expectations for their people.

So what was Rogers doing with the Jays all this time and why does much of their company product suck?

Delighted at this move. Burke was a total farce and stubborn buffoon who is behind in his ways (see his views on analytics, for one). His biggest moves have been franchise-crippling (see Kessel deal, despite how many apologetic on here will argue they'd do it again, it is indefensible). Still has not addressed the #1 issue since Day 1 on the job- goaltending. Hands a fancy contract to Ron only to fire him weeks later.
The last thing this franchise needs is a repeat of holding onto incompetence too long (see Colangelo with the raptors). The only issue I have with this move is Colangelo should have got the axe way earlier.

They're saying that the holiday trade freeze is polite but not professional

If we missed out on getting quality players because Burke didn't want to spoil a couple of days of some player with his family, I'd be pissed as a fan.
