Bud wake up kesler is damaged goods. Vancouver's window is closing they had a great chance to win the cup and I don't blame Lou soley, but he was a big part of the meltdown

I agree. Vancouvers window is probably over. I am a rational fan. I don't let my emotions cloud my rationale, however, if GMMG called the TML today and offered Kesler for Kadri and Gardiner the TML would be tripping over themselves for that trade.

The problem is healthy kesler is worth a lot I'd agree, but too many question marks around his health now. The way he plays the game, the grind of being a physical centre like he is breaks players down.

Could it be they stay out of the Blue Jays business because they feel they have a guy in Anthopoulos they can trust?

Its completely within their rights as a responsible owner to have people in place they can trust and work with. And please don't confuse "Trust" with being a puppet.

The speculation on the internal workings and relationships at MLSE is just that speculation. Bob McCowan can claim great insight all he likes, I've seen no evidence that he does. His report of Kadri and Gardiner for Luongo will pass, and any reasonable hockey fan knows the Leafs won't pay that price, just like time will show.

How about everyone takes a moment to breath before we return to all the "Ballard Era" talk. The Bell/Rogers media group has been very quiet in regards to the Leafs since they officially took over in June. As far as I can tell, their only misstep has been in waiting this long to fire Burke.

so is Marc Savard

obviously not the same but in a short season and a closing window (especially with impending cap issues next year) Van needs Kesler now and for the full season

MLSE hasn't meddled with Burke in the least. He's had absolute, complete free reign of the Leafs for almost 5yrs.

Firing isn't Meddling.

I don't get the ripping of MLSE.

Are they not allowed to fire a GM after 4 and half years of no results?

4 and a half years of never meddling and giving that GM absolute full control with no oversight?

what did MLSE do wrong here?

I do. They have every right to fire the guy. But for the reasons they supposedly did it? No.

On top of that, what did they change? Went from Burke to Burke's right hand man and team of Burkes.

On top of that, you have none of the board at the press conference answering questions and the one guy you do refuses to get into specifics.

On top of that, all of them are declining to comment on the situation on PTS with McCown.

The ripping of MLSE upper management and this stupid board is absolutely just.

In my view three reasons for them being ripped:

1: The timing? Firing a GM days before training camp is an absolutely bizarre way to do business.

2. Replacing him with his right hand man and leaving the rest of the structure in place. In my view they should have at least spoken with candidates outside the organization. Not that I agree (AA was JP's assistant with the Jays), but in cases like this the organization usually cleans house.

3. Not having a clear reason to articulate for his firing. The suit at the press conference kind of hemmed and hawed about why this was necessary at this time. If you're going to make a big move like this, with the weird timing, you better be clear about why you're doing it.

If Luongo gets traded to Florida...there's nothing wrong with it.

Timing bad before the season starts...maybe.

But if Nonis takes a pass on trading Gardiner and Kadri for Luongo, then it was an acceptable move.

I can't believe so many people are Bashing Burke. Look at the diminishing assets he had when he got here. He had NOTHING. 3 1/2 years is NOT enough time to rebuild a squad. There is NO BODY out there that would have been able to turn our team into a contender with the roster we had.

Van fans value him so highly, that is why they torched their city after they lost game 7.

four and a half, not three and a half.

I have a nice little list for you:

1. Timing: Why wait 118 days to fire the guy? There has been no hockey since the start of September, what reason was there to string Burke along for those months when you could have informed Nonis and let him prepare to take the reigns once the CBA was ratified?

2. Replacement: Why hire a guy with the same vision and direction as Burke? If you don't like the job he is doing why remove him and allow the rest of hockey ops to stay? Burke was a delegator, we know that based on Nonis involvement in trade talks, this team wasn't solely "his vision" it was the collective vision of members of the front office. Now they're stuck in the water with a bunch of paddles and the guy with the compass is gone.

3. Explanation: MLSE has proven once again to be a Mickey Mouse organization. They apologize to the fans for the lockout, then subsequently slap us in the face by exposing themselves as having no direction. If you want to overhaul then overhaul, if not how can you explain this?

Does anyone find it funny how the same people who defend the Kessel trade are mortified over the prospect of moving Kadri and Gardiner for Luongo? Seguin and Hamilton are far better pieces then Kadri and Gardiner while Luongo would have a bigger impact on wins:losses then Kessel ever did. While you might not like doing the trade since you have fallen in love with our own players you can at least look at what we would be giving up and say "At least we know what we are giving up".
