Tyler Bozak, Cody Franson, Jesse Blacker and Carter Ashton for Roberto Luongo

I wouldn't do that deal either.

If Vancouver wants Luongo's contract off its books it had better be willing to take one crappy Leaf contract (Connolly or Komi) back in the deal.

McCown is trolling to get people to give him ratings and buy into his BS. He knows that Leafs fans will be in an uproar if Kadri + Gardiner is going the other way. He's probably giggling his way to the bank with that outlandish report.

Quit telling people how to cheer for their team and quit assuming you fully understand what's going on unless you knew last night Burke was going to be canned this morning.

You should take your own advice pot. Or are you kettle?

not a huge deal anymore... Komisarek will be gone in the summer, while Connolly can play on our top line this season, since Bozak is gone

great time for this pic.

I don't believe this is just about Luongo. With that contract, the new owners probably DIDN'T want him to do any deal.

I think the new owners had five months of seeing what a porcupine Burke is in his demeanor, saw that they had almost the exact same knowledge base and experience in Nonis, saw the last 4 years of almost no progress at all, and said "Why are we paying this guy $6 million a year again?" Buh-bye.

Agree. This has been building. There were rumours months ago that Burke was on his way out.

This is something that was building.

This whole "he wouldn't get Luongo" discussion is a bit ridiculous. Burke couldn't get any player the past three months because of the lock out. Trades weren't allowed!

Are we really debating spelling and number of words? I thought lockout was over.
:help:

Most of you people blaming the MLSE is comical. Look at the Blue Jays they have spent a **** load of money and have their best chance of winning the world series since 93. On another note, if you don't think that Nonis will go to Burke for his opinion on the important matters you are sadly mistaken. Nonis was a great AGM and will hopefully be a great GM. He seems like the type to build from the draft which I'm all for.

You let him trade Schenn and draft his guy and THEN fire him?

Please explain whats right about the timing. As far as Im concerned this is the first sign that we have meddling owners again.

Burke was entering the last stages of his current contract and with is lack of success to date, and mounting pressure now, but in a lame duck GM position to succeed, might have caused valid concern at MLSE that he would make moves to saves his own job at the expense of what ids best for the franchise going forward.

This situation can be very dangerous and harmful to the organization, so they nipped it in the bud prior to the trade season opening and more potential damaging moves were coming down the pipeline in short order.

Timing is perfect by MLSE if that was a valid concern of the board of directors to protect the assets of the organization.

And who are you, may we ask?

I'm not an apologist, but you're posting on here like you're some kind of field general, belittling people for being shocked, talking like a clown to people questioning the move by the board, etc.?

Relax buddy. Burke isn't "nobody", he's more than you'll ever be, financially, and status wise. You're posting on a message board from your mom's basement, he's sittin' pretty with a $3m salary per year.

Want to see nobody? have a look in the mirror fella.

Whether or not you like what he did in hockey operations, he did a lot for public relations, and did a lot of work for charitable organizations in the city of Toronto. Worked extensively with Children's Hospital, and his players were more than just players, they were ambassadors of the community.

Time to go back to your day job...

:handclap:

Very very well said.

Blue and white actually, idiot :sarcasm:
A+

Mildly worried about a potential trade for Luongo. It propels our team into a direction that I think pretty much everyone understands that we aren't ready for and that contract will be a major burden in the future when we are a good team. Especially if the CBA turns out as expected. I trust Nonis though, just a bit uncertain with what his stance is on this particular circumstance when I understood Burke's pretty clearly.

or should be a return for all that.

Lu and Raymond.
