lol at the 'i wouldnt trade a pack of smokes for Lu straight up'

if it happens, he will be GOD in toronto, he will set records for jersey sales and be EVERYONES favorite player.

but yea, i wouldn't trade a tin of skoal for him either.

I wouldnt do that trade either, but if Burke was fired because a bunch of suits didn't agree with the hockey guy, BIG PROBLEMS ahead!!

Bob McGowan is a complete moron. Its funny to watch him hold back his joy, but then say that Nonis will dismantle the Leafs, they will win then Burkes who legacy will be a failure. What a tool.

This.

McCowan is a total f##k all when it comes to sports. He doesn't know his head from his as$ when it comes to hockey. I'm sure he's thrilled about Burke's firing though. He really is that stupid.

Is that in the new CBA? That the cap hit remains when a player retires? I hadn't heard that. I thought contracts like Luongo's might have been grandfathered.

No GM in their right mind would give up their two best prospects (closest to being NHL ready I mean) for a goalie with that contract.

Yeah, this is going to look very bad, especially if they don't make it into the playoffs next season.

McCown saying this is 100% due to Luongo.

He also said Gillis wanted Kardi and Gardiner and Burke would not do it.

The same way ANY competent GM wouldn't - when you're in the driver's seat (and sadly they're NOT anymore with this stupid move) you make it clear to the other party the deal's on your terms or THERE IS NO DEAL. Vancouver wants to move Luongo and everyone knows it, so why on earth would a GM give them what THEY want for him?

You let him trade Schenn and draft his guy and THEN fire him?

Please explain whats right about the timing. As far as Im concerned this is the first sign that we have meddling owners again.
Pretty much all of the structural aspects of the front office are going to remain. If Nonis was the GM we probably still would have traded Schenn for JVR and drafted Rielly.

you want to believe a rumor from a complete idiot like bob mccowan?
you were warned

I'd believe him and his connections long before I'd believe you. That's for sure.

Him saying you've gone from Burke to Burke-lite is bang on.

Did McCowman ever seem like a guy with inside info from the Leafs? No

If no one else reported that, what makes you people think Bob is speaking the truth?

Last time I checked Kessel wasn't an aging player with a horrid contract that is poised to become repulsive once the new CBA is ratified. That trade will also never happen. If it does I will film myself eating a hat and post it here.

Yes, you are correct. Phil Kessel and Roberto Luongo are not the same person, sources say.

I agree it won't happen. Mccown has no idea what he's talking about, so I'm not too worried.

Alex Seixeiro ‏@alexfan590

Bob McCown on #Sportsnet: Burke didn't want to deal Kadri & Gardiner for Luongo. Felt it wasn't the right deal to make.

If that's the legit reason, I'm speechless. Say what you want about Burke, but getting fired over making the right call is ridiculous. If that holds up, I'm calling for MLSE's head. That's such BS. What's the point of having a GM if you're not going to let him be autonomous? What a joke.

Get out of here.

Because everyone is employed by Rogers/Bell. I don't think Bob cares if he's employed by Rogers or Bell. He's one of the most popular sports radio broadcasters. If they fire him, the money will still be there, which may not be the case for other media members.

i wouldn't say that anymore.. the way luongo has handled this whole situation has been first class. if he does stay with vancouver i don't think it'll be as big of a cancer as once thought.
