I know it leaves the team a bit short handed but emotionally....Does the Stepan incident plus the Cacillo suspension give the Rangers another rallying point?

The friggin' linesman instigated it.

Not to mention, the original call on Carcillo was BS.

Let's say one of the Canadien players jumped a defenseless Ranger while Carcillo is being escorted to the box. Carcillo's JOB is to defend his teammates.

I think the Rangers should Devil up and get a judge to issue an injunction against the Carcillo suspension.

yea, that linesman came in swingin!

Carcillo committed a penalty that led to a fight, so the linesman was trying to get him off the ice before more fights broke out. Its his job.

Carcillo cant hit him no matter what

Stupid linesman jumping player that can't keep hes head cool.

Incident created from nothing by the linesman.

If you watch the play blame car bomb all you want but instead of pointing and motioning him away from the scrap he was man handled. The linesman overreacted and pushed him two times watch the video .. The fact the linesman left the site of the altercation also left Dorset in a bad spot and D.B.#8 could have thrown so big time sucker punches

Stupid move by Carcillo, a player I was really enjoying as a Ranger. And it's hard to argue the 10 game ban.

But people's bias towards Carcillo is leading to them making a bigger deal out of this than it is.

I'm pretty sure this is the exact same officiating crew that was responsible for one of the worst officiated playoff hockey games I have ever seen during the Flyers series. They don't know how to handle the chippy vibe of playoff games, and end up calling repeated "make-up" calls and ticky tack penalties while letting slew-foots, late-hits, and unnecessary stick work go. They're afraid to make an impact on the game until it's already getting out of hand, just like last night did. As refs, you need to be clear and decisive in how you're going to call the game so the players know exactly how they should behave. The amount of times BOTH coaches were yelling at these refs, and the NBC announcers themselves acknowledging multiple times what a tough (read bad) job the refs were doing, should tell you all you need to know about this crew.

Personally I think the Charging call on Carcillo was BS. And did the Subban slew foot on Dorsett (that granted Dorsett embellished but again, Subban clearly pulled back his leg and then swung it forward with intent) not also happen before this?

But the only player the refs were brave enough to call a penalty on was Carcillo, who has stated previously he feels unfairly targeted by the refs.

Again, real stupid move by Carcillo doing something anyone in any sport knows you can't do. But that officiating crew can not call any more playoff games, they are simply not adequately equipped to handle the increased speed, anger, aggression, etc. of playoff hockey.

He actually was if you would look at it. He pushed Carcillo three times before Carcillo DID ANYTHING.

I really wonder if any defending Carcillo played the sport before.

Ive been grabbed and shoved by refs all the time when there are scuffles around on the ice. If I hit a ref Im probably banned for a year, if not longer. You know you cant hit them no matter what.

Carcillo knew that too.

Carcillo didn't really do much different than lots of players.

Additionally this is not a big deal. The guy is our 13th/14th forward who when he plays gets maybe 8-10 mins a game on the 4th line with zero PP and zero PK.

Thank goodness the league came down hard on Carcillo. Someone needs to make sure the refs are protected from all these predatory hits and players who are on the ice only to injure officials. After all, aren't the officials who we pay to see?

Right, in beer league where fighting is not allowed, period.

I've played too, and have seen "abuse of officials" penalties rescinded the next day when the house talks to all involved. I've been called by the guy who runs the league to give my witness report. Sometimes the ref oversteps.

In the NHL, fighting is allowed, and Carcillo is one of the Rangers' enforcers. The linesman not only started the altercation, but could have put a Ranger player in danger by taking the protection off the ice.

Driscoll knew what he was doing.

I don't understand why more ranger fans are upset with Carcillo.

He put then down another forward for absolutely no reason at all

I like the way Carcillo has played in the PO's and I would suit him up every game over Dorsett...but Carcillo is lucky he didn't get a bigger suspension. He flagrantly elbowed the linesman in the chin.

BTW - Dorsett deserved another diving penalty when he flew up in the air making it look like Subban kicked his skate out from under him. Subban taps his right skate and Dorsett kicks up his left skate and flops backwards. Dorsett should concentrate on playing tough and stop trying to draw penlties.

Beer league? In every youth league, juniors, college.

You can't hit a ref no matter what.

Yea he knew grabbing Carcillo would force Carcillo to hit him I'm sure he has incredible foresight.

Carcillo deserves to get suspended and never play for the rangers again

I don't understand some of the posters around here saying Dorsett embellished Subban's slew foot. Yeah, let's give the benefit of the doubt to a dirty piece of **** whom has a history of this SPECIFIC play! Your attempts to seem fair and objective, actually accomplishes the opposite.

“@imseanavery: What a league......10 games for what?
I used to pretend i was dumping the puck and instead try and hit the stripes :)

The whole game was a rigged set up.

Call me crazy and I'll respond by asking anyone how four professional refs miss that Hit on Steps. Just does not happen.

These guys are either completely incompetent or it's rigged. Take your pick.

As much as I hate that Carcillo gets suspended, I can see how he would get so fired up.

It all but came out in the open last night. Everyone knows what the deal is. How many years has it been since a Canadian team made the semis? Watching the NHL on some level is like watching professional wrestling.

It's a shame. Bunch of small town knuckle heads running that league.

Bravo. Never seen anything like it. New low.

There's a video on the ESPN website that zoomed in a pretty clear view that Carcillo got the linesman with his elbow. Seems to be the most clear video I've seen of the incident so far.

Around the 40 second mark:

http://espn.go.com/new-york/nhl/recap?gameId=400559009

That was on sportscenter all night, I watched it repeatedly at work. I don't think there was any doubt he made contact and standing on its own I really don't have a problem with the suspension because you can't hit an official .

However, it is hard to accept that suspension when a premeditated dirty hit from a player with a history causes an injury only minutes before and receives much less discipline. Protect the officials but screw the players.

I also question if hitting the official was intentional or an accident, and I think the linesman overreacted in the first place, not that it justifies hitting him, but you can also see that in the video. If he thought carcillo was going to get involved as a third man, and there was no indication of that since carcillo was just watching, then he could have grabbed him. But since Carcillo was juts standing there, he should have just gotten between carcillo and the fight to make sure he didn't jump in. I don't know why he grabbed him, spun him around and pushed him against the boards. Seemed extreme to me.

2 years ago the canucks were in the finals. Prior to that both Edmonton and Calgary were in the finals in the past eleven..:shakehead

No conspiracy, just piss poor officiating that NHL fans should be used to.

I hope he appeals. He definitely deserves something, but I don't think this warrants the automatic 10. Not sure why the linesman has his hands on him the way he did either.

That entire crew that night should also not work another game this series. How much anyone wanna bet they'll be back on the ice in Montreal Game 5?
