He'll be fine as a fourth liner. He'll play like 5-6 minutes a game. Is this really that big of a deal to people?

EVERYTHING is complained about. People act like Dean gave up the farm for him

We needed a little more nasty and we got it. I still don't get how someone can say this means Clifford is being traded, because it doesn't.

I like this move, a lot. Inexpensive pest that will look great on our fourth line.

I only dislike this move in that we are taking away ice time away from a 22 year old and 24 year old. Carcillo is going to be a UFA and is 28. I just don't get it.

Nolan showed he can fight this year...the year before he showed he can play. He just need to combines the two and he can be deadly.

Clifford is still trying to find himself. He came up as a fighter then turned into a player in the playoffs and has been trying to be a player for two years. He needs a better balance as well.

Carcillo's hit on Carter (when they were teammates!):

Overtime winner:

I loved that team.

I loved that team.

I did too. So much heart, never gave up, Richie playing his ass off every shift and the others following his lead. And to think that only 4 players from that 2010 Flyers team remain on the team now, what Ed and Homer, the mad butchers of Broad St did to that team is just sad in so many ways.

At the risk of overstating the obvious, Dean's got something up his sleeve. He now has 22 players on one-way contracts, plus 3 RFA's not signed (Lewis, Clifford and Nolan), and this doesn't include Tofolli (two-way contract) who is expected to have a great shot at making the roster. My math says that 26 players.

I love the competition. If Cliche doesn't make the team as the 4th line center, that makes 25. I wouldn't lose any sleep if Fraser was moved, and obviously 1 or 2 defensemen will go. If 2 defensemen go, and none of the kids besides Tofolli make the team, then we are at 23.

Well it was just a matter of time before car bomb went to play with his boyfriends (richie and carter). I hated LA when they got richie and carter but now I really hate them. I can't stand car bomb he's right up there with Crosby

LA =Philly west

Like this trade. This just means that either King and/or Clifford will be gone since they're both LWs. Hopefully, we retain Nolan, I really like his play as our 4RW.

I just hope Carcillo can teach Clifford a thing or two on his fighting skills and he can also work with Dwight King on channelling his inner deamon on the ice instead of Mickey Mouse.

I loved the 2007-2008 team the most. So many great developing young guys and they played with so much fire. There was great promise in that team before it was systematically descimated. But 2010 was a close 2nd. What they did in those playoffs was awesome.

And I remember Carcillo hitting Carter when they were on the same team. Never hit Carter again, Carcillo or I will kill you ;)

Competition? We have too many players? Why trade for Carcillo when you have Clifford and why sign Schultz when Mitchell is looking healthy and you have Ellerby, Martinez and Muzzin battling for one spot?

I believe Schultz was signed before they knew Willie was going to be healthy. And they also had Muzzin and Martinez both as RFAs at the time. That's 3 question marks at the time of the signing. The player doesn't make sense because it's Schultz but signing an insurance D made sense. Just in case.

You do realize we have 13 NHL forwards on our roster before Carcillo right? At the very least, Carcillo gives us a warm body to come in and give the team a spark with his energy and ability to rile up the other team.

And all of these guys will be pushing each other to earn ice time. That means everyone has to step up their game to secure their spots and their minutes.

Well, we got a criminal to battle the other criminals. This kind of makes Clifford the odd man out. Either that or Nolan maybe. Other moves to follow obviously, will be interesting to see.

I'm starting to think DL wants a super-competitive training camp.

Doubtful.

I love this acquisition

Don't get too comfortable with it.

The bold part is the answer to your own question.

I believe Schultz was signed before they knew Willie was going to be healthy. And they also had Muzzin and Martinez both as RFAs at the time. That's 3 question marks at the time of the signing. The player doesn't make sense because it's Schultz but signing an insurance....

Bingo.

Lewis' money mystery + Mitchell's health ??'s = the need for insurance players.

Mehh, I don't like the trade but at the same time I'm ok with it.

Only reason I don't like it is cause I'd think we could find someone to do the same role as Carcillo via UFA, but then again he has familiarity with Fraser, Richards, Carter, etc. so that likely played into it.

If we don't have room for some reason for him, we waive him and we're out a 6th (maybe a 5th depending on how the conditions apply if he's dealt/waived/etc.) It sucks to lose assets for nothing if that happened, but its a 5th. We can recover.

DL thinks his moves out to a great extent, so something must have promoted this move. The fact Clifford and Lewis aren't signed but Muzzin and Martinez are may indicate theya re asking for a bit to much for DL's liking and as such may force a trade.

I could see Clifford for a 2nd happening if that's the case.
