i understand the need to stock up on defensemen given Mitchell's unclear status and the trouble LA went through this last season with injuries, but the acquisition of Carcillo i dont get one bit. if Clifford/Nolan get moved i will be pretty pissed

Clifford is the far better player, far better player.

Heck, Andreoff is the better player and he hasn't even played a game yet.

Just seems like an odd move. Buying something just to buy something.

If Clifford is shipped out, especially in light of Carcillo being picked up, I think a lot of it comes down to one play:

Scrum with Toews during Game 2 of the WCF.

Kings are getting their ***** handed to them and their "enforcer" gets into a scuffle with Chicago's captain and top-line player. Perfect opportunity to send a message before the series shifts back to LA and, let us not forget, Bolland knocks Richards out for the majority of the series just 24 hours earlier.

What does Clifford do? Pretty much nothing. He wasn't going to do a thing to Toews and then Crawford gets to jump in like some kind of hero. All the post-game talk is centering on how much of a stud Crawford is while the Kings just looked like clowns. Clifford is just too damn honest of a hockey player.

How would Carcillo handle that altercation? Well, he had no problem feeding Marian Gaborik his lunch in a similar situation. You can bet your ass Carcillo would of at least taken a questionable run at someone in the Game 2 as LA was about to go down 2-0 in the series with their leading playoff scorer nursing a concussion from a questionable hit.

I like Clifford and don't want to see him go, but this team is just way too nice. It's time that they initiate the action every once in awhile. I've harped on it a bit, but the Kings are at 30+ something games without a fight and there have been plenty of reasons to have one during this timespan. They played much tougher during the SC run in the playoffs than this past season's playoff run...it's like they got played harder because they were the Champs and didn't really know how to react. It's not always about fighting, not at all, but it's an attitude you need to have and I felt the Kings were too honest and let other teams get away with way too much.

Carcillo won't keep cheap shots from happening, but him starting something can drag everyone else into the fray with him. I guarantee Bolland would of received a visit from Carcillo in Game 2 of the WCF...still pissed nobody did anything to him that game when winning was clearly out of reach. You simply can not allow your top scorer to get KO'd like that without a hint of retribution.

With Frattin, Brown, Carcillo and guy like Regehr and Greene back on D the Kings are going to be pretty nasty to play against. Still an unfinished product, it's pretty clear that with the Clifford rumors and the glut back on D this still isn't the Kings team that will hit training camp.

Who's the last person Carcillo intimidated? Honest question.

The only vivid memory I have is him getting his ass beat as a Flyer when he tried to start something with the Kings.

I don't think it's just intimidate. This guy is willing to take a suspension if someone takes a cheap shot a la Torres. None of our players will do that. Sometimes you gotta go to the gutter if the other side will. If one player goes down, it makes a huge difference. We learned that with Richards against Chicago, Stoll vs San Jose. Quick was run over in St. Louis and San Jose multiple times and we had very little response except to shrug our shoulders.

The only one who seems to respond to cheap shots was Richards and he is much better on the ice. This is a good move because we shore up on this factor....it brings back an edgy streak and we know he'll respond. He's more cap friendly than Clifford. You can youtube his fights if you like, he's had a few. He put Thorton on his ass a few years back, but I don't think he was brought in just for fighting.... if someone aims for a knee, I can see him returning the favor and players will think twice because some hits are more permanent than others.... Enforcers fight...this guy may not win all the fights,a but we know he can lay someone out and that to me is more unpredictable and dangerous than just someone who will beat a player up because one may never hear him coming.

for everyone insinuating that Clifford isnt tough enough, hes too honest of a hockey player, and that Carcillo is needed because he makes dodgy plays and risks getting suspended, put the ****ing bongs down. Sutter isnt that style of coach admittedly and Deano doesnt stand for that ****.

I just Youtubed some of his fights. He's willing to throw, but mostly loses them. In that fight against the Kings I mentioned, he was rag-dolled by Clifford and it was over in five seconds.

So we're getting this guy for the sole purpose to take cheap shots at other players?

I have strong doubts he will be of any use. For one, he has to be in games in order to respond on the ice. Can he even play well enough to avoid being pressbox fodder -- after two knee injuries to boot?

What exactly did Clifford do after the first few games with Richards/Carter? It's not like he was a standout and he didn't last on the 2nd line.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion.

He's played on Richards line. He's played with Sharp and Hossa. We're getting a guy who can play with our stars and won't hesitate to step in and defend them. Kelly Buchburger made a career of getting his face caved in to protect his teams stars. Carcillo has talent, coaches see that. He just has a short fuse. Lombardi has already said every army needs a few criminals. Here's ours.

Carcillo is a much better fighter than people think. He KO'd Krys Barch, a heavyweight, and TKO'd Shawn Thornton, another heavyweight. Carcillo is only 5'-10" so most of the time he is the smallest guy in the fight but is more of a middle weight. Most of his fight losses are agaisnt heavyweights he had no business fighting but he is crazy and just did it anyways or to avenge a cheapshot on a team mate.

well thats what im saying! Clifford and Nolan can fight, and they can fight pretty darn well. i just dont see the need to bring in Carcillo when both of the aforementioned players are better fighters on cheaper contracts. the 'we need a dirty player' argument makes 0 sense to me

This. He will get spot work on the Richards and Carter line, work the fourh line and be our 13th forward. In essence he will be Richardson's replacment. He has some speed but like everyone knows he will be on a short leesh.
