I don’t see it. We just smacked the Rangers around and lost a game we had absolutely no business losing. This game was back and forth. A totally fine effort that’s going to be won half the time.

We aren’t the same team in that we’re not going to be literally one of the most dominant teams of the analytics era. Sure, okay, obviously. We’re still very good.
The idea that we smacked the rangers around is based in the idea that the game is played entirely 5v5.

Well do you expect Vitek or Schmid to be Shesterkin for a whole season? The two games after the streak ended they both made 30+ saves, the Flyer game Schmid saved our ass, but this can’t continue. He almost saved our ass tonight too but you can’t count on a 22-year old kid or a career platoon goalie to keep this insanely high level up, especially if the D is gonna start crapping out more

Why can't they be? Unless you think the Rangers roster is better than the Devils then it's a whole different discussion

The Haula scoring thing is not cute anymore and is actually becoming a problem. In these tight games, a goal can be the difference between getting a point or two or nothing. Unacceptable finishing from him.
Our old school coach is more worried about possessing the puck for two seconds then he is maxing out the scoring potential of the Jack line for the other fifty

But you were chanting "FIRE LINDY" weren't you🤣
Nah, I wanted Ruff gone last year as it's pretty clear to me he's not the coach of the future. I've cooled on him a little, but I still think he's gone after the season.

Not sure what that had to do with the discussion though.

Almost all of our shots were muffins, low dangers, and one and dones. I can't recall any super tough save Wedgewood was forced to make. We were in and out of the offensive zone way too quickly.

Flip side we got hemmed in a lot, and were awful breaking out.

The shot totals are hiding thr truth, which is we didn't play very well at all
The Devils ice a consistently small lineup. On a one game basis it’s not a big deal but as the season rolls along the bumps and bruises accumulate and they obviously impact the smaller players a bit more. As someone noted before Nico Jack and Bratt will have to learn to play with more pressure and coverage against them. It would also help if the team could develop a couple of other obvious and unquestioned top six players.

To touch on the out of town scores, the Canes beating the Red Wings in regulation is BETTER for us.

The Canes are gonna be in the playoffs this year. The Red Wings are likely not.

There's nothing wrong with a team that's a playoff lock capping some of the competition along the bubble.

The Caps have been making a bit of a run recently, but them playing Chicago is a freebie win at this point. That's a freebie for almost anybody. In fact, the Rangers are the only team I think to lose to the Blackhawks in their last 11 or 12 games. They've lost I think something like 11 of their last 12, with that Rangers win )against Halak, wasn't it?) being their lone win in that stretch.

Florida hosting the CBJ, again that was a FREEBIE win. The CBJ are literally the worst steaming pile of garbage shit team in the league right now, short of Chicago. And Chicago is SUPPOSED to be BAD. The CBJ signing Gaudreau signals they didn't intend to be bad.

Now, signing Gudbranson signals they intend to be bad, but they clearly don't know that he's bad.

I kinda want a half retained Henrique back. He can win faceoffs and actually score goals.
I'd take him over Haula for sure.

Henrique half retained would be about as much (slightly more) than Haula at full price.

But he's signed for one more year and knowing our luck he'll hit the shooting percentage wall sometime between now and next year that Haula is hitting now. The wall that he has somehow avoided for a verrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyy long time.
