Okay, so again, I rate this as a B+. Not a slam dunk A, or a killer Gomez-for-McD-deal like A+, but a B+.

So, for those who hate this deal, some questions:

1) What did you think the market for Zucc should've been? We've heard all along a 2nd + a B prospect – so, how is a 2nd and a 3rd (with upside) worse than that?

2) Given condition 1, which everyone says is a pipedream – do you think Nill made this deal because *he* thinks the team won't win 2 round?

3) Given condition 2, if Zucc doesn't sign in Dallas... where do you think he signs?

I like this deal.

It's actually not... It's actually really great I'm home.

There are 4 possible outcomes albeit not equally likely.

Rangers get a 2nd and a 3rd
Rangers get a 1st and a 2nd
Rangers get a 1st and a 3rd
Rangers get a 1st and a 1st

That's an amazing trade imho.
Yes but by far the first one has the most likihood of happening:

Rangers 2nd and 3rd: 75%
Rangers 1st and 2nd: 10%
Rangers get 1st and 3rd: 10%
Rangers get 1st and 1st: 5%

(My guesses)

It’s a little underwhelming but I think thats more from the perception of the mock deals that people where throwing around here on the board. It could really turn out to be a great deal if alot of things go the right way for the team. Still would of liked a prospect but it is what it is. We just to need wait and see on this one.

One cool thing out of all this---and I say this because I'm not only annoyed with Gorton--I'm annoyed with Nill too. All this f***ing bullshitting and fussing about paying for a player. But Dallas has now either traded or have commitments on their 1st, 2nd and 3rd round draft picks this year and next year---so that pretty much puts a full stop to this idiotic crap from them for the next two years.

Ugh, not a sexy return at all.

But considering how long Zucc’s been in the market, in guessing there wasn’t a great deal to be had. At least not one based in the real world and not hypothetical scenarios.

The deadline is in 2 days. After that we can't retain on anyone else this year and the Zucc retention goes away at the end of the season. Hard to downgrade the deal based on retention unless you thought we would trade for more than 1 other retention deal in the next 48 hours which seems quite unlikely.
It's a bullet spent, which if spent elsewhere might've gotten an asset from someone else.

It knocked it down from something in the A range to a high B. Cut me some slack.

I don’t hate this deal I would have been ok with two guaranteed 2nds over these BS conditions. Whose to say he doesn’t sign with a contender like Calgary? Dallas isn’t his only option.

I don’t want our 2nd best winger to be 32... it doesn’t line up with the rebuild.

I want our second best to be a kid... and before ANYONE starts with the wolves and lack of vets HANK is ****ing here and he’s the damn Captain no matter what the letters or lack of say on his jersey.

Bringing Zucc back so we can pick 8-12 again is horrific

Rebuilding teams have vets. All of them.

I don't see why it matters to you whether that's Zuccarello or some other young 30's guy. What's the difference? One winger isn't making your team pick 8-12. Given the current state of our wingers, he's not taking away a spot from someone younger that deserves it. No one has stepped up there yet. On a good team, he's a 2nd line winger with PK/PP roles. On our shitty team, he's either the best or the 2nd best winger we've got. Says a lot about the rebuild.

Gonna be rooting hard for Zucc. Never liked Dallas. Not a sexy landing spot for him.

They won’t make it out of the first round.

It would however be amazing if Zucc went BrassGod and got them there and gave us whiny fans a 1st rounder.
Eh, Seguin, Benn and Klingberg are awesome players. They’ll be 3 of the best players Zucc will have played with.

Dallas has poor depth but Zucc will almost certainly play with the top guys

I put us getting any chance at a first in this trade (either 2019 or 2020) at less than us getting Kakko or Hughes and that's pretty f***ing low

If you've at all watched Zuke the last 2 seasons this is exactly what he should've gotten. Said it in an earleir post

Zucc is worth a 2nd and a 3rd but this is the NHL so garbage like Howden goes for a third, Ryan Clowe goes for a 2nd and a 3rd, Eric Staal's corpse returns a 2nd+ and a half dead Rick nash gets a 1st.

So Zucc should be returning a 1st or a 2nd/3rd + a prospect
Looks like those conditionals covered the middling prospect. Perfect deal.

Also not Howden...whoever the f*** our piece of shit defenseman was last year

i think this return is pretty good actually. I've always thought Zuc was going to return a 2nd + mediocre prospect. So we got the 2nd but we got a 3rd in lieu of the mediocre prospect. Good chance that the third we use ends up netting us just that. Not to mention the chance at either, possibly both, becoming first round picks. It's a bit unorthodox so I understand the initial jarring reaction but I think this is actually fair to slightly better than expected value.

Best of luck to Zuc. What a class act and hell of a player for all of his years here.
