So let me get this straight i take rangers would want a Dallas western final and zucc signs with Dallas as well ? If that's the case I think the signing stage is possible. I can't see them going through Calgary jets preds sharks.
Correct. In order to get both 1st round picks, Dallas needs to get to the WCF this year and then re-sign Zucc in the offseason.

I can't see them getting through the Central bracket, but if they drop to the Pacific bracket, I think they could conceivably make the WCF (or at least have a better chance).

Simply not true. Hendricks. Smyth. Ference. Horcoff. Hemsky. Roy. Etc.. They might not have been the right vets, but every year the Oilers had multiple 30+ players on their roster.

Ditto the Florida Kitties in the 2000s

Really, a conditional 2nd & conditional 3rd!! I never thought we'd get that much for Zuc!This is highway robbery the Rangers pulled off. I'm dreaming we can get a 7th & maybe even a 5th for Hayes if we throw in a 1st to sweeten the deal.

Really needed a prospect that could play in a year or two. That 2020 pick means the kid is 16-17 right now. Looking at 6-7 years before he can amount to anything and a real crapshoot at that

what's a crapshoot is relying on a B- prospect to have any kind of impact on an NHL team trying to be competitive in 1 to 2 to 3 years. No point in being impatient while rebuilding.

If the Stars make it to the WCF, I imagine they let Zucc walk. If they don't I would imagine they re-sign Zucc (provided he does well).

I doubt they make it that far, but I wouldn't be shocked if they resort to re-signing him. Dallas has struck out on free agency and the trade market. Their owner is willing to spend. They are spending ~$85M in actual dollars.

But these are good conditions, they don't have any real deal prospect outside of Robertson. They can't score.

Also... I don't think they developed a top 6 forward since Jamie Benn in 2007.

What surprises me is that they can't take advantage of the state tax shelter like NSH, TB, and Vegas have done.

We need to hope Benn-Seguin-Zucc click as good or if not better than KZZ..

It'd be a miracle if we got 2 1sts out of this. A late 1st, in that they make the WCF... re-sign Zucc but they fall flat, for whatever the reason, in 2020... A lottery pick.

Anybody think Gorton resigns him in July to a 3/4 year deal while walking away with the 2nd and 3rd round picks?
What's done is done. Move on. The chances of re-signing someone are so slim historically it seems. And recency bias examples are Grabner and Nash.

I honestly can't imagine we get two firsts. I think there is a higher chance than most believe that we do get one first.

So we need Dallas to get into the final four and Tampa to win it all
