Can’t say I’m thrilled by the return. I do think there’s a better chance that Zuccarello re-signs in Dallas than they win two rounds this year.

My prediction had been better than the Grabner deal. Unfortunately, that’s still yet to be determined.

As calm heads already noted the return is close to expected 2nd + B prospect. Gorton probably gambled on taking a 3rd rounder with conditions instead of a guaranteed 2nd. I think 2 conditions is a smart psychological play. Not getting to WCF (likely) could be viewed from Dallas perspective as a saving of a 1st rounder this year thus being more accepting to resigning Zuke andlosing a 1st in 2020. From Zuke’s perspective Dallas could be a good fit financially with no state tax. If Zuke doesn’t shit the bed and Dallas makes a good outing this year even without getting to the conference finals the chance of Zuke’s resigning there could be as good as 50/50. That’s a reasonable gamble to taking a 3rd instead of a 2nd.

Good point. I think that probably puts to bed the (sort-of-fanciful) idea that Zucc is ‘coming back home’ this summer. Not that many were expecting it. But a good point and indication that the Rangers Zucc chapter is closed.
