Rebuilding teams have vets. All of them.

I don't see why it matters to you whether that's Zuccarello or some other young 30's guy. What's the difference? One winger isn't making your team pick 8-12. Given the current state of our wingers, he's not taking away a spot from someone younger that deserves it. No one has stepped up there yet. On a good team, he's a 2nd line winger with PK/PP roles. On our ****ty team, he's either the best or the 2nd best winger we've got. Says a lot about the rebuild.
I already said don’t come at me w throwing kids to the wolves. That’s crap. This team should’ve bottomed our this year and next... now it’s next year maybe.

Zucc may be a great guy and teammate and incredible in the locker room but I’m not signing him for that. You can get that elsewhere for less term. As I said... HANK is going no where so we don’t need Zucc to rah rah the kids.

What we need is great picks and prospects. Yes they can be found later again, blah blah blah.

There’s no reason to worry about being Zucc back here to help the team on the ice when that’s not what we need.

We need lots of chances to hit it big and lots of losses to get us the highest percentage of picking low

The Oilers didn't and that is exactly why they ruined all of their prospects and a decade long rebuild culminated in ONE playoff series win.

So is Webster out too? Like that Callahan blowhard a few years ago who jumped ship to be with his betrothed #24?

If you've at all watched Zuke the last 2 seasons this is exactly what he should've gotten. Said it in an earleir post

Looks like those conditionals covered the middling prospect. Perfect deal.

Also not Howden...whoever the **** our piece of **** defenseman was last year

Yes but by far the first one has the most likihood of happening:

Rangers 2nd and 3rd: 75%
Rangers 1st and 2nd: 10%
Rangers get 1st and 3rd: 10%
Rangers get 1st and 1st: 5%

(My guesses)
Bingooooooo! Sick to my stomach man.
I'm guessing we have to wait until offseason to see if Zucc resigns with them?

It's a bullet spent, which if spent elsewhere might've gotten an asset from someone else.

It knocked it down from something in the A range to a high B. Cut me some slack.
I agree here. Yeah Hayes is still here and Kreider.

Hypothetically two GMs come with “Godfather” offer for both and require, not request, REQUIRE retention.

Now what? U can’t make one of those deals because of RYAN f***ING SPOONER & and Zucc trade

Agreed. You gotta have some vets around. That mantle is looking like it firmly belongs to Staal now.

The second-round selection in the 2019 NHL Draft will become a first-round selection in the 2019 NHL Draft if the Stars advance to the third round of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs and he plays in at least 50 percent of the team's cumulative games over the first two rounds. The third-round selection in the 2020 NHL Draft becomes a first-round selection in the 2020 NHL Draft should Dallas re-sign Zuccarello in the off-season.

Stars acquire forward Mats Zuccarello in trade with Rangers

The complete terms of the picks.

Playing at least 50% of the playoff games had not been reported.

I think we did alright but I never expected much more than a 2nd round pick. And not only is there a chance for it turns into some thing more, but Dallas picks should be better than Winnipeg, Nashville, Calgary, etc...

Have to think Gorton is showing Zucc respect with giving this 24 hours of weekend coverage.

Hayes will get the Monday back page slot.

i think this return is pretty good actually. I've always thought Zuc was going to return a 2nd + mediocre prospect. So we got the 2nd but we got a 3rd in lieu of the mediocre prospect. Good chance that the third we use ends up netting us just that. Not to mention the chance at either, possibly both, becoming first round picks. It's a bit unorthodox so I understand the initial jarring reaction but I think this is actually fair to slightly better than expected value.

Best of luck to Zuc. What a class act and hell of a player for all of his years here.
Plus I’d rather our scouts take a swing at a third instead of getting a prospect considered mediocre in a D+1 year or beyond. Especially from Dallas, they’re brutal in the draft. A third isn’t a great bet but NYR have had relative success in getting NHLers around that point of the draft.

I'm not a huge fan of the deal, but hey, Zucc being traded was gonna happen. Best case scenario, we get 2 more 1sts in this deal. Even if we don't though, realistically at this moment we have 4 picks in the first 2 rounds of the upcoming draft, before Hayes has been traded. It is quite possible that we'll have 3 1st round picks in this coming draft, and technically possible we have 4 by the time Hayes has departed. More still if we trade Kreids

So let me get this straight i take rangers would want a Dallas western final and zucc signs with Dallas as well ? If that's the case I think the signing stage is possible. I can't see them going through Calgary jets preds sharks.

Really needed a prospect that could play in a year or two. That 2020 pick means the kid is 16-17 right now. Looking at 6-7 years before he can amount to anything and a real crapshoot at that

If the Stars make it to the WCF, I imagine they let Zucc walk. If they don't I would imagine they re-sign Zucc (provided he does well).

IMO doing whatever it takes to make sure we don't ruin all of our top prospects (and keeping Hayes is key to insulating them) is far more important than whatever mid level throwaway prospect and late first we get in a Hayes trade.

We already have one of the deepest prospect pools in hockey, but as always we lack in high end elite gamebreaking talents. Whatever prospect we'd get in exchange for Hayes will certainly not be that. Nearly every prospect outside of Forsberg that was traded at the deadline hasn't proven to be worth much of anything.

And Clark's track record in the 2nd and 3rd rounds doesn't exactly inspire confidence.
