This. He is knocking at Top10 atm. I`d expect him to be in Top5 in a few years. First 2 years overpayed by 1-2M, next 2 on a good contract and the final 4yrs will be a steal IMo.

Yes. If it`s 5-6yr contract it will be 8-9M. If Makar sign a 8yr deal, I`d have it at 9,5-10M

Great player but horrible deal. I would fire every GM who offer more than 7 m/season to defender or goalie in the salarycap era.

Dallas just gave statement that they are not contender in the upcoming season unless they can move Pavelski or Radulov.

This is the first big domino to fall for Makar/Fox/Hughes negotiations and unfortunately for the Avs and Rangers its not a good one.

Mind you I think Heiskanen is absolutely unquestionably worth that money, I think the hope/belief was that with Covid it would maybe drive that first contract of this group down a little.

The hope was probably more along the lines of ~7.5-8 for Miro and Hughes, ~9-9.5 for Makar and then 10-10.5 for Fox.


Now I think Makar has an easy argument for 10+, and Fox can look at whatever Makar signs and add another 500k-1M thanks to his Norris trophy.


Obviously its possible guys take discounts. But at this point I think it'll be a 10M deal for Makar and 10.5M for Fox. Hughes comes in slightly under Heiskanen at 8M.

If this set the bar, agree that Fox and Makar should be north and Hughes south, hopefully in the 7-8.5 range.

Hedman also signed pre covid and is in a non tax state. Hedman's deal was his 3rd contract I believe, this is Miro's 2nd taking him thru his prime.

Not a fan of deals like this. Could end up worth it, but you’re paying for things he hasn’t done yet.

The problem with looking at his career point totals dont tell the whole story. Sure 35 points dont seem like alot, but Seguin led the team in points that season with 50 in 69 games. Dallas doesnt score alot of points, and Dallas also has Klingberg who plays alot on the PP

That same year Heiskanen put up 26 points in 27 playoff games

Heiskanen also is one of the best young dmen in his own end, which is kind of important consider the position he plays
