Grats to dallas on securing an awesome player!

Does this end the possibility of dallas scoring Bishop from TB?

Different positions, and RFA vs UFA, but I wouldn't be stunned if Mcdavid joins the 9+ million dollar club next year.

Still crazy to me how deals aren't going into the stratosphere for high level players. Everyone keeps expecting consistent 10 million plus, but we've only got two of those and everyone agrees those are bad contracts.

They wouldn't have those contracts if they'd signed even a year later.

The Canadian dollar has tanked, the cap is stagnant, so Benn and Kopitar are did quite well considering.

Not really. With so many players coming off the books next season, and at least one goalie having to go if we trade for Bishop, there's more than enough room.

so at 36 a cap hit of 9.5 is a good thing

You assume there won't be some cap dumping move then, which happens with declining players with huge cap hits. Look at ARI taking Datsyuk, he isn't even in the NHL anymore.

Plus you gotta lock down these kind of guys. Especially since if you don't want to pony up for them, someone else will. Superstars will get theirs regardless.

I'm not against looking all the way into the future, but when it comes to players of this caliber, you almost need to look more at the immediate future and their prime years and not worry so much about the tail end of the contract in order to put together a Cup contending team in the next few upcoming years

Crazy to see how many players today make a lot more than Crosby.

I've said it in another thread.... but Jamie Benn is the closest thing to Lindros we will see for a while.

Really nice signing for Dallas. Was expecting close to 10M. True player, true captain! :handclap:

Watching Dallas is my guilty pleasure.

Contract could have benn a little less, could have benn a little more but good to see Jim Nill benning over to get this out of the way. The whole Stamkos saga was ugly

Fantastic deal, one of the best in the game today. In all honesty, I thought he would have gotten upwards of 10.5 million, but that contract is great for both sides

Every time I watch a Dallas game the puck just follows him everywhere. It's like he has magic powers. What a steal of a draft pick for the Stars.

Absolute steal right now, but I always get a little anxious about contracts for that much money and for that long. This contract only takes him to 35 (he'll turn 36 the offseason this contract is up), so hopefully he'll maintain his extremely high level of play for most of it.

9.5 is never a "steal." Sheesh.
