Confirmed with Link: Dadonov (50% retained) to Stars in exchange for Gurianov

I still think we are likely going to give him a 1 year deal at 1 million

Agreed. It's a better return for Dadonov that I imagined. There is untapped potential and he is heading into his prime/mature years (Turns 26 in June). If MSL can get more out of him with a more free style system, nobody can.

I like this trade. Makes we wonder how many open spots we have for Heineman, Ylonen, RHP, Farrell for next season heading into camp. However, if his salary is kept around $1M, it doesn't hurt us if he disappoints cause it can be buried in the AHL.

I literally just slid through the doors and checked that friendly cap site and saw all the transactions,that TDL is gonna be dud ain't it. No big surprise that Dadidnov was the first hab taking,a lot of teams covet a player like that for depth with his skill set,should do well with Dallas. He was gone after this season anyways and getting a look at a former 1st round pick that has been a bust is better than a BS late round pick. Unless he picks up his game and changes his ways,well if you think Anderson,Dadinov,Drouin etc were hated,you ain't seen nothing yet.lol.

Next get Krvatsov and Poolparty.
Then I better get my gun ready.lol.

I was listening to 32 Thoughts podcast and both Marek and Friedman really like the Gurianov trade for the Habs due to his upside/tools. Elliotte mentioned that the Flyers and a few other teams were interested in him. Marek believed Carolina was also interested.

I mentioned earlier in this thread that I thought he was tracking to be a star after his 20 goal season at age 22 which was followed by a huge playoff when Dallas went to the Final. Hopefully a change of scenery and the MSL touch will result in him realizing some of his potential. If not, we certainly didn't give up much to get him.

That's even worst for Dallas, knowing that other teams were interested in him and Dallas thought that the best offer for Gurianov was... Danonov. It also says alot on the huge sales job Hugo was able to do to Jim Nill, it's highway robbery.

Really good move, there's worse gambles to make than on a big 6'3 winger that can skate and has a shot.

Let's hope we have a GM with vision and we have another Dach storyline in the making.....

Gurianov doesn't need to become another Dach to make this a successful trade. We really have nothing to lose with this trade (we traded Romy to land Dach).

Get the sense HuGo had zero interest in Kravtsov, given what it cost Van to acquire

I’m also of the belief the Dach acquisition last draft, Gurianov now & say no to Kravtsov were heavily influenced by Chris Bouchers “pragmatic analytics aligned w eye test” usage”

Maybe the other teams were offering a 7th for Gurianov.

maybe , we'll never know . Anyway a 7th or Danonov ... hmmm ?
Could be wrong, but I don’t think Philly or Canes had any player on expiring contract with Dadonov’s experienced scoring pedigree to offer…

It’s clear Nill & DeBoer wanted a known supplemental scoring asset in return.

I suspect Peter DeBoer was the one who had the sales job on Dadonov to Jim Nill.

He was a productive player under him in Las Vegas and oddly enough will likely slot in their top 6 immediately.

Gurianov is RFA at the end of the season, and his current salary is $2.9M, so that means $3.3M next year. If the guy end up not bouncing back, that's a lot of money for a 4th liner/healthy scratch. If he doesn't help in the short term, I don't see him either in 3-4 years as part of a competitive team.

The next few weeks will see, but if he doesn't really pan out, they may have missed a 4th rounder or something they could have got for Dadonov. For what that's worth anyways!

I can't imagine the offers for a player who wasn't productive and needs a new deal this summer were very high.

Stars and Habs were perfect partners for this trade as odd as it seems.

Stars were looking to add offense at a low cost.

Habs were looking for anything for Dadonov.

A 4th round pick is a likely fringe AHL/ECHL player in 5 years. I'd much rather take a flier on a former 12th overall pick with size, speed, shot who has a 20 goal season and a massive playoff under his belt.

If the Habs like Gurianov, I'm guessing they'll agree to a contract below what his QO would be. If they do qualify him, Habs have a boatload of cap space opening up next season. If he doesn't work out, no big deal. Just don't sign him. Habs have lots of picks and prospects in the system and they can only have 50 under contract at a time. No big deal not getting another 4-5 round pick for Dadonov.

Good in traffic. I like how he can handle some contact as he uses edge work to cut around guys. Good shot and one timer. I'm surprised that the Stars see Dadonov as a better playoff guy over him. He was very solid in their cup run (19/20) with 17 pts with 9 goals in 27 games. Dadonov has 1 assist in 4 playoff games.

Stars have size in their line-up. They may be overlooking that due to a team strength.

Gurianov's 19/20 playoff numbers (Age 22 Season):
* 17 pts with 9 goals in 27 games
* 13:53 min/game
* 7 PP points
* 15.36 Hits/60
* 1.28 blocks/60
* 3.20 Giveaways/60
* 1.44 Takeaways/60

You can't convince me that this was a fluke.
For whatever reason things soured in Dallas.

Seems like an Armia type to me but with better skating and a one timer? Not like I think he disappoints like Armia but the kid is just heading into this prime years at age 25 and 26 next season.

Very surprised we were able to get a flyer like him for Dadonov. Stars going after a guy who has 1 assist in 4 playoff games and is a soft winger type.
