Confirmed with Link: Dadonov (50% retained) to Stars in exchange for Gurianov

Good trade for the Habs, though anything that wasn't a long term negative value is a win.

Here's hoping that Gurianov can gain a little confidence from the trade and the likely increased usage on the Habs and earn himself a spot for next year. But even if we walks as a UFA because we don't sign him it's still all fine.

And as much as Dadonov was a flop, I don't have any hard feelings so hopefully he does decent with Dallas too.
Handled his tenure in Montreal a lot more professionally than Fleischmann that's for sure

Because he's incredibly bad. HuGo is banking on turning this guy into a gem. Young, big, the potential is there. Better than acquiring a 7th round pick.
How come a player that looked so good during Playoffs 3 years ago suddenly turned into crap ?

Is someone going to start the Evgeny Dadonov Appreciation thread? I feel there will be a lot of fond memories posted there...

:sarcasm:
Geez, I'd rather have Tatar over Dadonov or Hoffman any day of the week.

My feeling is he lost interest, a bit like Drouin, no heart. This is the danger of giving millions to young athletes. They settle and invest those millions or squander them. Maybe this will be a wake up call for him, considering he needs a new contract.

Coach change (leading to system change and stuff) and off-ice familial issues (he took a leave of absence in December for familial reasons). Dude might not have been thinking hockey that much this year.

He doesn't have one.
Yeah he's kinda like Anderson, but worse. He has so much physical skills, great skater, he's big, good to great shot, but he's so lost out there. I actually liked him a lot as a prospect because of those physical skills, but yeah, I don't think he'll be anything. Probably off to Russia next season, or maybe some team will sign him to league minimum

The Habs will qualify him @ 2.9 mil. They have the capspace and HuGo would have accepted future considerations or a 7th rounder. No reason to trade for a potential bust otherwise. The Habs believe their chances are incredibly slim of landing UFAs which merits this move.

''Dadonov'' is maybe 30 but he already proved more than Gurianov. He might be 25 but he is a bust as of now.
It doesn't matter now. Dadonov was totally useless with the Habs. Probably never wanted to be traded to MTL and it showed from Day One. He will be UFA next Summer anyway. Habs would had not offer him a contract.

a 7th rounder or let him walk to FA
And why not take a gamble on Gurianov instead? Big body, former first rounder and young. The Habs had more to lose letting Dadonov walk. Besides name me a current superstar that was drafted in the 7th round? Gurianov @ 2.9 mil. next season is still better than picking up nothing on the UFA market.

It's gonna simple for Gurianov. His ''test'' will be until the end of the season. If nothing works it's directly goodbye.

He even had a worst season that Dadonov. He's like 20 games to bust. I don't expect anything if not that this trade actually helps the tank considering Dadonov is better than him
HuGo could have asked for a 7th instead in 2030. The Habs will test him out next season @ 2.9 mil. and then part ways if he simply busts.
