Confirmed with Link: Dadonov (50% retained) to Stars in exchange for Gurianov

Dadonov was playing better lately, so I can understand why a playoffs team would do this, Dadonov will probably offer Dallas more consistency and reliability while Gurianov was going nowhere for them and passed over by other players in the hierarchy. Sometimes with young Russians, you never know, maybe playing on a non playoffs team with no pressure, coached by St-Louis might get him going again, I see it as a nice gamble nonetheless, not much to lose, at worst you let him go at the end of the season if it doesnt work.

Gurianov has 9 pts in 43 games, Dadonov has 18 in 50. In 50 games, Gurianov would have 11 pts prorated to 50 games. He'd have 7 less points while averagine 2 and a half minutes less than Dadonov.

16 of Dadonov's 18 pts came since December (in 34 games), while averaging 15:02 TOI. 5 of Gurianov's 9 pts came since December (in 27 games) while averagine 11:32 TOI.

This isn't to say Gurianov deserved more ice time, because in Dallas, they had guys like Robertson, Hintz, Pavelski, Seguin & Benn among others getting the job done. But that he will most likely take Dadonov's ice time and that could benefit him and the Habs.

Garionov may really suck, as in be worse than Dadonov and that's who he'll be, not improve at all..

Good trade for the Habs, though anything that wasn't a long term negative value is a win.

Here's hoping that Gurianov can gain a little confidence from the trade and the likely increased usage on the Habs and earn himself a spot for next year. But even if we walks as a UFA because we don't sign him it's still all fine.

And as much as Dadonov was a flop, I don't have any hard feelings so hopefully he does decent with Dallas too.

Explain how he seems like Armia. This should be good.
Slightly better Armia. Let's see how HuGo gets out of this one.

What exactly did you expect Dadonov to fetch? The guy was literally given for free to the Habs in exchange for Weber's contract. I still don't understand this bonehead move from Vegas. Anyways, it's done now, Vegas sent that contract to Arizona. Even before this, Vegas was trying desperately to move on from Dadonov. His value was so low and this year he did jack squat before Christmas, only to suddenly awaken from a deep slumber. The Habs lose nothing here. They get a younger, bigger player that they can develop into something. They will likely qualify him @ 2.9 mil, give him a year and then see what happens. Would you have preferred a 7th? No team was willing to give that. There was no better end to this saga. So, Subban for Gurianov. The great legacy left behind from our great BargainBin.

I thought Gurianov was going to be a star a couple of years ago when he scored 20 goals and then a huge playoff with the Stars on their way to the Final. He has some upside and should certainly get more opportunity in Montreal.

Low risk, high reward trade. Nothing to lose.

Is it possible that we traded away Dadonov, and got back someone WORSE???? Is that even possible???? What are the odds?
High actually.

But it doesn't mean Gurianov isn't salvageable, he's just playing very badly this season.

Also, the Weber's contract -> Dadonov -> Gurianov trade chain has a null cost at worst and a positive one if Gurianov works out. That's excellent asset management for Weber's contract/Dadonov that basically had negative value.
