Worst comparison poll i have seen in awhile.

Not to mention these results are remarkable. There is not one General manager including Colorado that would take Toews over Hughes.

Are you going to make an actual argument for Hughes or just just make things up?

Quinn Hughes is one of the most dynamic offensive blueliners in the NHL.
And this year he has been just as good defensively as Offensively.
Guy is on a 60 point pace, And literally does everything for Vancouver on the backend.
Without Hughes, Canucks are basically a lottery team.
Toews is an amazing two-way D, But that does not make up everything else.
Toews is having a career year offensively, This is not the norm IMO.

Weird. They’ve given up the 10th most goals per game in the entire NHL at 3.03 goals per game Just two spots ahead of the Oilers. Canucks are 21st in goals against per game with a dreadful D group outside of Hughes at 2.5 goals per game.
Like I said the Avalanche D is elite offensively. Defensively as a group they are definitely not elite.

What's weird is that 2 times it has been pointed out how good Toews is 5 on 5 and 2 times you have talked about the teams and not the actual players.

Hughes is having a great bounce back year and will probably get more Norris votes and attention but Toews is as good overall or even better IMO.

"Does not make up everything else"

Man I dont see how you can possibly be more of a bias then this post right here. Toews is literally better at everything then Hughes.

Toews doesn't even get PP1 minutes and he's still producing far more then Hughes.

It's almost like Toews plays on a contender that has Nathan Mackinnon and Mikko Rantanen up front.

"Toews is literally better at everything then Hughes" - hard to be more biased than this take.

Toews is leading defenseman in +/-, PPG, and is far and away the best even strength producer this season. What else does he have to do? Makar does not carry Toews. He is legitimately a top 10 defenseman.

It's mind-numbing that anybody--let alone 50% of people in this thread, would take Quinn f***ing Hughes over an actual top pair defenseman.

Do you know what's even funnier than that? Makar is supposed to be the best defender in the league yet Toews has a better stat line in every category outside of goals this season. How does that work? Best D in the league getting outplayed by his own partner

Not funny at all.

Literally just further proves how f***ing good Toews is. Thanks for clarifying that part.

You’d think Canucks fans would show some humility after 18 months of telling everyone that Hughes is vastly superior to Makar, and ending so astonishingly wrong.

Are you seriously going to post something so ridiculous as the bolded and then laugh at someone else’s take?

Toews is really good, but people need to get over the production. He’s a good supporting offensive player but he’s not an elite offensive player and he’s clearly benefitting from a ridiculous offense right now where everyone is shooting like they’re Craig f***ing Simpson. Zero chance he outproduces Hughes on the same team.

When comparing the two in above replacement models

Hughes has a slight edge offensively in driving offense at even strength.
But Toews defensive metrics of the WAR model are substantially higher than Hughes, and his impact short handed also boosts him up.
So the overall impact is Toews.
