Someday we’ll know about the offers from the reported 5 teams who wanted to trade up. Knowing what we know now on the « love fest« between Philly and Michkov, pretty sure Briere offered something to move up.

I mean he proved he could be a player versus men , in that sense he is more proven. Leonard still havent played in the NCAA , hes probably going to do good there but the conversion rate is not 100%.

Draft class of 22 was a strange one and its way too early to dismiss Slaf.

Most of the risers end up being good players. For one thing I see close to 0 bust potential with Reinbacher , very close to a lock to be a top 4 D.

Where do you see that? Obviously most fans wanted Michkov, now that the dusts settled and the outcomes what it is, everyone has done more research and is opting to be more optimistic. Personally, after doing more research I’m happy with Reinbacher as a consolation prize to not getting Michkov.

You're right. Hughes should have said he's a definite future HOF'er. Everyone knows that Lane Hutson is going to run the PP in a couple of years so there's no reason for Hughes to pretend that Reinbacher is, that's not what he was drafted for. I would have taken a swing on Michkov depsite the red flags-the biggest one that he's a crappy teammate- but there's nothing wrong with drafting someone at 5 that you project as a top pairing right D. Nothing.

None of the 16 lists posted on Elite prospects had him earlier than 8th. More than half had him 10 and lower.

So David is a reach. Could be a good reach. Could be a bad reach.

He's not a reach. I would have taken Michkov too but drafting a player at 5 who was pretty much consensus top 10-12 at WORST, is not a reach. Shane Malloy explained this whole "reach" nonsense in the top tier of the first round on NHL Network Radio right after the draft. Pretty much no one taken 5-15, who's ranked in that range to begin with, as DR was, is a reach.

I'm one of the few Reinbacher fans and there is apost from me back in like february saying if we draft 5th/6th in this thread id like us to take Reinbacher. Im am definitely a minority in Habs land. (Btw I voted Smith in that poll but he wasnt avaialable).

I voted Leonard but would have also taken Benson, Dvorsky and Michkov ahead of Reinbacher and will stand by it

today sure fans will support him. They were just not supporting him pre-draft as per poll on home board few days before draft.

What aspect of he's going to be a 4-5 defenseman because "he was a late riser who has no discernable high-end skill and limited offensive ability" and was, according to the organization, drafted because of his potential to "fit within the culture" of the team - as asinine a reason as drafting Slafkovsky because "he's big" or another player "has character" - doesn't make sense?

Maybe the 5-15 tier is a little « wide » for me bc kept reading 5 was last pick of tier 1. Drafting consensus 15th player with 5th pick i would call it a reach. Not what happened, he wasnt 15, more like 10th.

This must have been a thing Habs fans were telling themselves. In my opinion after the top 3 there is a big drop off. 4 and 5 were not too much better than 9.

6’2” defenseman that’s smart and skates well playing top pair in a good mens league in Europe.

Montreal’s other defense prospects are not as good as Reinbacher. He gives them a cornerstone to build the defense around.

What is wrong with some of you Montreal fans? Instead of using the internet to bitch about Reinbacher how about you watch his games instead?
