Arizona wanted him. Hughes had multiple offers to trade down, he knew wouldn't have his guy if he did.Easily the worst pick in the draft. Not that he won't be a good player, but he could have been had moving back for more assets.

Hughes should have been fired a while ago? Thank God you are just some random board poster and not the owner. No person worth their salt would want to work under such a hot head.Habs have had ONE player with 70+ pts season in the last decade so naturally they decide to not draft the game breaker.
Typical garbage from that team. I warned people Hughes should have been fired a while ago.
Also now, no more picks until #69. Not too bad for "rebuilding" team.
Just a complete joke.
A while ago meaning after the season ended.Hughes should have been fired a while ago? Thank God you are just some random board poster and not the owner. No person worth their salt would want to work under such a hot head.
Yes you have been proven right about players who have not played a single game for the Canadiens.A while ago meaning after the season ended.
And with every passing day, I am proven right. Newhook the other day and now this...
Slaf the player who was the consensus #1 pick? So when Hughes goes with the consensus he sucks but when he apparently goes off the board he sucks too. You don't even realize how insane you sound by never being satisfied no matter what management does.Clearly you are a Hughes fanboy and he can do no wrong!
Last time I checked, Slaf played in the NHL last season.
I had a feeling Montreal will take him. Don't hate hate it but underwhelming to pass on Michkov. Wish the took Nemec last year during weak forward year and Michkov this year.Sneaky rise to top 5?
Lol Slaf consensus #1??? In what world??? Wright was the #1 on most lists.Slaf the player who was the consensus #1 pick? You are the worst type of fan and i am ashamed to have people like you representing the fanbase.
Agreed on the 2nd part but Slaf was shockingly consensus #1 just before the draft. He was #1 on Bob’s scout consensus rankings which is the only list that is worth more then a grain of salt.Lol Slaf consensus #1??? In what world??? Wright was the #1 on most lists.
As for the type of fan give me a break. The team is as bad because they take fans like YOU for granted. Will always blindly support the team no matter how incompetent they are.
There needs to be accountability.

Easily the worst pick in the draft. Not that he won't be a good player, but he could have been had moving back for more assets.
Accountability for what? Trading picks for Newhook an NHL player instead of drafting kids that will most likely never make it?Lol Slaf consensus #1??? In what world??? Wright was the #1 on most lists.

The issue here is Newhook is not trending in the right direction. The value that was given up was an overpayment.Accountability for what? Trading picks for Newhook an NHL player instead of drafting kids that will most likely never make it?
An article actually came out of the probability of getting an impact player with the picks they gave up for Newhook. From 2004 to 2018; 23 of 30 players could never establish themselves in the NHL (77%). Twelve of them played less than 10 games in the NHL (40%) and seven (23%) never played a game at all.
Here is the list of the players that were able to establish themselves: Jacob Markstrom, Justin Faulk, Brandon Carlo, Boone Jenner, Brendan Lemieux, Tyler Pitlick and Klim Kostin. Some good players in there but not a list of superstars.
Dach was not trending in the right direction either until he did. We even gave an NHL player in that trade unlike Newhook where it was two picks and an AHL player. The issue here is Newhook is not trending in the right direction. The value that was given up was an overpayment.

I feel like this is something you shouldn't say out loud

He also said that his scouts told him to draft Reinbacher with the 5th overall and not move the pick when offers came. Scouts are hired to identify talent, not organizational needs.Yup! He is pretty much admitting he drafted for position and not BPA. No one has a crystal ball, but drafting for position is stupid strategy. I fear that HuGo will be worse the Bergevin when all is said and done.
I mean, Reinbacher would have gone first in any draft over the last ten years right? So he'll be fine. Not looking to good how?
Playing 4th line with zero pp time he was heading to a 30pts season, not bad for an 18yo kid that's 6'4 240
If theres one thing we know is that big strong players take time to debelop. See Blake Wheeler
We are already mad. Our fans are angry at dealing picks but they also do not trust our scouts to draft well.Calling @GermanSpitfire and @Hinterland to drop off some copium tanks to the Habs board before we go mad.
Actually watching him, the first name that comes to mind is Pietrangelo, I find they have similar styles at draft time anywaysAs long as he is more Roman Josi and less Adam Larsson, I'm happy!
Never said I agree with the pick.I mean, Reinbacher would have gone first in any draft over the last ten years right? So he'll be fine.

I am higher on Reinbacher than most but I must admit that Michkov may be something elseHopefully these are not the same scouts that decided to spend high picks on Galchenyuk, KK, and whiff almost every year under Bergevin.
I like Reinvecher as a prospect. I just think with Michkov right there you have to take Mitchkov.
