Looks like Gibson was having himself a game to...

People crack me up think Gibson isn't any better then skinner 🤣 I would fking love to see what skinners numbers would of been like in front of the ducks and eakins the last few years lolol

Yep, there's a stat for specifically that. Its called "expected goals". It's actually referenced in the last couple pages. Skinner has beaten Gibson every year since he entered the league until this 25 game sample size by Gibson this season.

I'm kind of surprised how cheaply Tommy Novak went for, while he doesn't scratch the same itch as Frederic that we kind of need, I think overall he is the better player of the 2 and he's got a reasonable contract with term so he is going to hold value unlike Frederic, who like most high intangible players tend to sign inflated contracts as a UFA that they can never possibly live up to.

For what it’s worth, Seravalli on Gibson a couple days ago:

“I don’t see John Gibson as a fit anywhere. One - I think there’s a super limited market, and he makes too much, and for whatever reason the Ducks, this is why he’s still there, have been hellbent on thinking they’re going to get something in return for him. I don’t see it. For all the reasons we just talked about in Edmonton, I definitely don’t see it there.”

The “reasons we just talked about” was the Kane situation.

If they’re legitimately cool with Skinner and Pickard then I haven’t seen our management have a bigger disconnect from our fan base in my entire life. Sadly that stretches through absolutely gross years.
I think you mean a disconnect with reality. It’s not just oilers fans who see the problem, it’s literally any hockey fan. I have lots of non oilers fans as friends, and every single one of them agrees that tending is the biggest issue with the team. Again, this isn’t hard to understand or figure out, all the stats show it as does the eye test. Simply baffling that our management group is this stupid

Gee, I wonder how many GMs this season are interested in Tristan Jarry because of how few expected goals against he had last season. No way would he clear waivers...

Jarry had the same GSAA/60 last year as Pickard does this year aka not good.

His goals saved above expected (32nd) actually put him ahead of Skinner (36th) and Blackwood (33rd).

Google's A.I. had this to say when I asked it which was better:

"In terms of accurately evaluating a goalie's performance, "GSAx" (Goals Saved Above Expected) is generally considered better than "GSAA" (Goals Saved Above Average) because GSAx takes into account the quality of shots a goalie faces, while GSAA only compares a goalie's performance to the league average without considering shot difficulty, making GSAx a more nuanced metric for assessing a goalie's true ability."

I think we're talking too small of differences to really gauge anything. Jarry finished with a +2.6 GSAx last year. We just had a game where Pickard was like -3.5 GSAx in half a game haha.

There really isn't any public goalie models with much predictive value yet. I'd say high danger SV% is the closest thing, but some models are worse than others.

Allen would be key!
I think there could be an opportunity to trade for Allen or a package around Allen with a team like Jersey. If RV is indeed the guy who was talking about moving on the Devils could be a team he would waive for. I was looking at their roster and they are very limited on right shot forwards. They are a good team, just not contenders this year without Hughes. Could be a win/win, money in/money out, hockey trade.

Ps. I see what you did there lol

Don't worry, management will just sit around with their dicks in their hand while other teams load up on the likes of Rantanen, Rakell, Gibson, etc.
In all seriousness how can we do this when it's such an important year? Somebody answer logically

If we add a top 6 Winger for Leon suddenly the Frederic addition looks good. Have people seen the numbers of goals are depth players are getting? We are not built to win 2-1. We NEED offence

I'm going to smash my head against the wall if we don't add a winger before Friday.

You're all really letting me down here. I keep refreshing at work for one of you to post the tweets saying that we acquired a goalie and defenseman and a forward. Let's say Rantanen? Be better!!! Get on that!!!

iT’S NoT The GoALIES FaULT

29-3 with slightly below average goaltending. That's an eye opener if I've ever seen one.
I've been okish with Skinner the last few seasons thinking he's acceptable enough to backstop an elite team to a Cup but there's no defending him this season and those stats (although save pct. isn't the end all be all) point to him being a primary issue. I still maintain that team issues extend way beyond just goaltending but there's also something to be said for terrible goaltending deflating the team and making them play a "different" way and that might very well be what we've been seeing the last month as the team has abandoned any type of system play.

Such a strange deal lol.

Also Vinny crisscrossing North American this year lol

Saros is better than both and it's not even a conversation

Fixed it for you. He may never rebound. We seen goalie fall off the cliff before never to rebound
