I guess I'm just not as impressed by the spin moves and other dipsy doodling he does, not that I don't think it's pleasing to the eye (he's very fun to watch). I suppose we'll just have to agree to disagree haha just feel like Cale's no-nonsense game is going to be very effective and I'm not as confident with Hughes continuing to pull all his tricks in the NHL but I suppose we'll just have to wait and see! ;)

Fair enough. I'd contest it's not just dipsy-doodling that Hughes is better at, but you are right that time will tell. In the end, I won't exactly be upset if Cale can become a 60-65pt two-way stud & Hughes is putting up 70-75pts+ but needs a much more specific type (and caliber) of partner to babysit him.

Yeah. I see Makar as a potential NHL nanny who can dominate a pairing at a high level if he hits his potential

Man both the Avs and Canucks would love this and see that as their ceilings, not sure on their floors but I also think both their floors will be to paring and top 10 scoring among defenders at least a couple of times in their careers.

Canucks fan saying I’d swap Hughes for Makar
I would too, I think their is less risk he busts in the NHL compared to Q. Hughes. But if you say Q.Hughes is better than him at anything, get ready to use the ignore button as some Colorado fans will freak out.

Some clueless ones might, but most assuredly would not. I think Quinn is a more dynamic player and I think he will be a higher scorer pointwise in the NHL due to his higher offensive ceiling and style of play. Makar will be a better all-rounder and score more goals thanks to his better shot, less risky and markedly better defensively.

Right? It's not like two of us avs fans just debated that very question in this very thread amicably

I think most reasonable Avs fan know that they each have different strengths and that it's hard to say either way. Anyone saying otherwise is probably just a homer.

It would actually make sense for both teams. Avs are way deeper on the right. Canucks on the left. If the Avs win the draft lottery you can bet this topic will come up.
Nah. Avs aren't deep at RD. It's an optical illusion. EJ is declining and Barrie is bad defensively/may be traded. Timmins, Makar, and Meloche are our RD prospects of note

Their floors will be top pairing dmen and top 10 scoring for dmen? Thats awfully optimisitc...Big hop from D1 to the NHL. Not saying they cant do it, but labelling them as perrenial all stars is a bit rediculous

Let’s wait for them to lock down top-4 roles, at least, I agree.

Makar's a beast, I think there's a decent chance he will put up the same numbers as Hughes. Only reason he probably won't is cause he will be a TWD. That power with that speed and high end ability will go great with the Avs, Hughes chance to bust is far higher IMO though he's very small, so he will probably get forechecked hard like Girard which will cause all kinds of fits. I see his max floor something like a more mobile Barrie.

I think their offensive skill sets and drives will have them in top 10 Dmen scoring at least once each in their careers even if they don't become consistent all stars yes.

Their team situations will also help in this regard.

I'm not saying that they will be top 10 all around dmen year in year out but rather focusing on their offensive skill sets and production.

lol why would that come up if the Avs win the draft lottery?

I assume he's referring to the potential Hughes-Hughes tandem if we get to draft 1st overall. That being said, I don't think that's enough of a reason to ship out Makar. As someone who wasn't incredibly hyped on when we drafted him, seeing him develop has made me a huge fan!
