Czechs in North America

I know nothing about him but it seems encouraging as our 2005 group is pretty good on D!
 
Vrana with 3 more games in the AHL for conditioning so he'll play 6 in the AHL I think.
 


Rousek with his 10th. He set up his linemate Murray (who sprang him for that breakaway) moments before this goal too.

Also, per the head coach, Kulich will not be playing this weekend even though he is already back in Rochester. They want him (and Rosen) to get a chance to recover mentally and physically after the 7-game in 11-day grind, plus the emotional nature of that grind.

I could see Galvas and Blumel getting 60 or more NHL games this season.

Kulich and Jiricek might get a 'cup of coffee' in the NHL this season

I keep rooting for Lauko to crack the lineup so we'll see how he does... 40 games, maybe?

Raska has a nice bottom 6 game so maybe he makes it this season for a few more games.

The rest feel a year away (Mysak, Teply, Kral, Has, Svozil) or never.

Season is about half over so I thought I'd look back at my preseason 'takes'.

Galvas and Blumel are definitely not getting 60 games and they probably won't be able to be able to go to the Skoda Cup. I HATE that our best can be buried in the AHL and not made available. NHL... no problem. AHL.. piss off!

Jiricek did his cup of coffee.. Kulich may too.

My Raska take has not aged well.

Kral did get a few games. Has is in ECHL. Mysak is learning the game in the AHL and not even close right now. Svozil is not even on the NHL radar but man his future looks good. Teply.. I have no idea.

More poor takes!

Vrana definitely didn't get more games.lol I have no idea what his situation is but I'm a big fan and hope it gets sorted out soon.

Zboril plays now and again. So does Hajek. They are not full time NHLers.

Reichel got the call and played a few games, then sent back.

Simek has been fine.

Kempny almost won a Spengler!

Jenik hasn't shown much.. 1 game.. 4 minutes in TOI and 4 minutes in penalties and then back on the bus!lol

Kaut is still an NHLer.. playing 45 seconds a night.

Zohorna made the roster and is up and down... I do think they like him.

Galvas is shocking to me.. not on call up.

Frk is near .ppg territory and will probably never get a call.

Vejmelka should be similar. Vanecek should be near 50. Vladar SHOULD go up (not becuae of my bias but because playin Markstrom every night is stuipd and it showed against Edmonton), Francouz was injured and should be near 30 this year as his competition is Georgiev), if Mrazek stays healthy he should be near 40 games easily. Dostal is definitely due for more games.

Korenar is gone from NHL.. hope he resurfaces on national team.

Rittich is still in the NHL (put him in Frk and Hajek territory).

Skarek and Patera might get a game or 2 as well.

So I'm guessing 9 Czech goalies see the NHL this season with 5 of them playing 25 or more games. Bold for sure, let's see how it plays out.

Most likely guy in this group to take off is Vanecek, Francouz and Dostal (who is currently blocked by a very good Gibson).

I was close on the goalies so far.

Vejmelka is having a good season on a poor team.. he may be a trade target to be honest and end up on a stronger team.

Vanecek has been our most succesful goalie.

Dostal got Anaheim half their wins.haha

No injurieds in NYI or LV so Skarek and Patera wait but we still have 41 games.

Rittich has played very well.

Vladar is also getting more love.

Mrazek is playing a lot.. I'm a huge van but have no idea how it ends for him.

Korenar looked great at the Spengler!

I still say 9 Czechs start a game in the NHL.. I'm at 7 now and think Skarek and Patera are next. I'm basing this on injuries and the unlikely chance that the 4 guys ahead of them don't suffer one injury.

I think we hit 45 Czechs suit up for at least 1 game. 25 being regulars and key players somewhere in lineup.

Add in a nice run of quarter final victories at Hlinka, U18, U20 and World's this year and things are either improving a little for us or we are benefitting from a very good hockey nation not playing. Could be both!

My big dreams is that 3 goalies take off and become starters.. Vejmelka, Franouz, Mrazek and Vanecek are the most likely to do that.

And I hope we can ice 6 D that play 70 games or more (3 last season so this is very optimistic)... most likely being Hronek, Gudas, Rutta, Zboril, Kempny and Galvas.

Kral should be damn close but he's on a very good Leafs team with a beauty D core. Tough sledding.

Some others not mentioned by me... Has in Washington, Teply in Chicago, Raska in SJ, Mysak in Montreal (especially if season goes how it looks to be going) and I'd love to see one of our giants get a game.. Klapka or Kondelik!

Hope dies last! I didn't really bank on no Kempny or Galvas at all.

40 is the new bar after I move the goal posts!

Still expecting Rousek and maybe Kulich to get a look before the end of the season for Buffalo. Rousek is 1A/1B for me in terms of who they should recall if they need a forward (but they've been relatively healthy up front while the defense has taken a battering).

I want Rousek to get the call and find a bottom 6 job, energy dude and he's my first choice. I want Kulich at the World's in May! 3rd line killer. I'm fine if he stays in AHL despite him quickly rising to be one of my all time fav Czechs! Finished off the US in summer, finished off Sweden, got us going against Canada. I love this guy! Made the U18 and U20 all star teams.

Rousek's 6-game point streak ended last night and Kulich was back (this time playing center again) in a 3-1 win over Laval.

A brief update - Kulich back from the U20's saw another game at center and was overmatched. He has 1 goal in the four games since his return.

Rousek's scoring streak ended and he continues to streak, albeit in the scoreless direction. His defensive game though has been good. *shrug*

I don't mind if Kulich struggles at C in the AHL to be honest. I'd rather he become a C than a W as C's are much more valuable.

I'd like him to get it together at center but he has a long way to go if he's going to do that in the AHL. Energetic winger with finish? Sure. But it'll be interesting to see if he continues to get reps there because his AHL team has a huge hole at scoring line center for the foreseeable future.

Don't they all just end up in Boston anyways? Crazy that their are as many Czechs in Boston as there are Canadians. Awesome culture right now in Boston.

Noaek out sucks... Hoping this, somehow, gets Lauko back.

Detroit was supposed to have a nice Czech colony too but that fell apart... Vrana had issues, Zadina got hurt. Just hronek and kubalik for now.
 


No big secret that I think he's one of our best goalies... hopefully he gets a few more games and gets traded to be a starter somewhere! Him and Vejmelka are two guys I think would benefit from a trade.
