Kulich's at just shy of 0.7 points/game right now and one of our local bloggers has been doing some fancy stat looks at the farm team with Kulich showing out as one of their better players there. It's pretty easy to see watching him too. :D
How do people in the Buffalo organization feel about the potential of Kulich and Ostlund? Is Kulich at an advantage because he plays for Rochester? What is your personal opinion of both players? I'm an Ostlund fan, so I can't be impartial, that's why I'm asking you.

I somehow missed that one of my fav's Jan Jenik got the call!

He played a few days ago for under 4 minutes, got 4 minutes and penalties and was shipped back to the AHL. I have no idea why it's going so poorly for him.

Puts us at 36 Czechs to play one NHL game.

Zohorna is hurt and there is a speculative chance that Lauko is coming back (pure speculation and not fact).

This is getting comical... goes to AHL.. dominates.. comes to NHL... starts in top 6.. ends up with 5 minutes and goes back to AHL. Much like Zadina though, I feel he's gotten some fair looks... I cannot just blame the coach here. C'mon Martin.. I don't want you to become my new fav Euro Czech with Klok, Kase, Chlapik and Spacek.

This gets 2 but Reaves shot on hronek was zero. Hertl is heating up too.. 30 points in 32 games.

Maybe an elite European league like Switzerland or Sweden would be the best option for Kaut? Or a trade to a "lesser" NHL team? I see it is very difficult to earn a stable spot and good TOI minutes among the stacked Colorado roster. He is apparently "too good" for the AHL, while "not good enough" for a team like Colorado. I think, the Swiss league, for example, is very good, he would get a chance to play the top line or at least top 6 forwards there. It might contribute to his confidendce and growth as a player (i.a. for the national team) more, than just switching between the AHL and 3rd/4th line in the NHL.

I would like to see him on a lesser NHL team first, even though Colorado had tons of injuries and he still wasn't able to maintain a spot...

Otherwise, I agree. Rather be a possibly key player in a solid league than an AHL/NHL tweener. Same goes for guys like Zboril or Hajek, also players who would benefit from good ice time, which is not gonna happen for either of them anytime soon.

He's stalled at this point... happens to a lot of prospects. He can change his game and become a bottom 6 grinder or go to Europe and have a nice Euro career and get his confidence/minutes/points up. Hope he can become a top 6 NHLer but that window seems to be closing fast on him. I honestly kept hoping he'd get claimed by a weaker team that needs forwards as well.

Mini Renasaince for Big Save Dave! His last 3 starts have been well above .900. We also have 5 Czechs above .900 right now with Dostal at .899. Mrazek probably won't get to .900 this season playing for Chicago. Vanecek has slipped a lot recently which is a shame as he was flying! Vladar kept winning games and hasn't played since the 10th.

He has cleared waivers twice this season already meaning talking about trade is pointless as evidently nobody wants him for free. The "Too good for the AHL" argument becomes hard to see as well since Colorado is pretty desperate for NHL-level depth and they still evidently have no fear at all of losing him for nothing. Colorado is really the perfect place to showcase yourself this season and Kaut just clearly doesn't move the needle enough to generate any interest.

Much like Wooren is saying, just a classic tweener situation where it would take some major stroke of luck to achieve some kind of breakthrough. Or a significant improvement of some sort.

If he can't maintain a spot in the NHL this season, then he should move to Europe. Maybe he can try the next season, but he definitely shouldn't stay between the AHL and the NHL longer than until 2024. He will be 25 then, SHL or NLA would definitely be better options of him than AHL. Applies to many other European players as well.

Surely, no argument here.

I don't think he's gotten a point since Reaves hit him but he's keeping very good Czech company.

Kubalik has slowed too after a tremendous start.

5 minutes last night.

Little D rant.

We all know that our D isn't good enough to win a best on best, it might not even be good enough to win a Skoda Cup.

It's very encouraging that Hronek is on the rise and doing very well. At the same time, Gudas is in the 'Roman Polak' years and will probably be doing 1 year contracts after this season. Rutta and Simek are lovely players that I enjoy greatly but they are 'warm bodies'. Hajek and Zboril have yet to set the world on fire (both drafted higher than Hronek). It is a glaring weakness.

Kral and Galvas have yet to become full time NHLers. I thought they would but I have a bias for my Czechs.lol

The rest is a bit weaker with Krutil, Kubicek, Has being in Extraliga or ECHL. Zabransky doesn't seem headed to the NHL too soon. All guys I like.

However!

We have David Jiricek coming (and could be on a top pair with Hronek to give us a darn good 1-2).

Now we have Galvas coming and Tomas sounds exceptional. I haven't seen him but the posters I trust on the topic like German, Woo and Good all are very high on him!

Amazingly there is a younger Jiricek who sounds like a potential first rounder.

There is also a younger Svozil who is in Finland (weird he didn't go the Kometa route like his brother)

Then we got a Badinka coming too!

On top of that we just had Spacek, Alscher and Hamara go in first 100 of the last draft. This draft looks to have Koci and Dvorak go in first 100 too. Stanislav Svozil was tied for first in D points in the WHL before leaving for WJHC.

Does this mean I think all our problems are solved and all of them are the next Makar? Of course not but it is encouraging and I think it's a strong wave coming in. Maybe some become very good Euro players too as we don't really have a great group in Europe either.

Our forwards are generally fine and not on the decline (Voracek is, O. Kase probably done) and we have a good mix of young and prime. Hertl, Pasta, Necas, Chytil are all doing very well for themselves.

We have 7 goalies currently in the NHL playing with a few more in the Wing's like Patera, Skarek and Dobes. May even have 2 goalies in first 100 of this draft with Dybal and Hrabal. Again, I'm not saying all become NHL starters but it's a lot of encouraging signs. They may all be the next Josef Korenar too.

Back to Galvas.. being young and getting Extraliga minutes doesn't necessarily mean you are a first rounder or going to the NHL. It's encouraging though as most scouts have Adam Jiricek as a potential first rounder and Tomas seems to be just as good.

Done babbling about Czech D.lol

There's nothing to be ashamed of. You wrote it very nicely. Lots of disappointment with our NHL D prospects, but also some new hope with other players. At least one can dream:sarcasm:

Actually in Edmonton for the holidays! Was a crazy trip with multiple delays, but we’re here.
You should be able to find some Oil tickets discarded on the ground.lol

I'm guessing, without googling, that it is minus 30. Happy Holidays

Missed this in the run up to Christmas. I'm not sure how the organization views them specifically to one another. I know a cross section of the fanbase are very infatuated with Kulich even before the August U20's where Monten went weird with leaving Ostlund out of the Swede's roster. If in looking at how the roster on the NHL team is constructed, they seem to have found a first line with Thompson's emergence and how the Quinn-Cozens-Peterka line has shown in some games as a viable alternative to bring scoring from somewhere else. What gets dicey is that they have a line that worked at times last year (Asplund-Mittelstadt-Olofsson) that is just NOT working this year, seemingly due to Asplund sagging significantly in how he is playing overall but defensively over all. The "other" line has two long-in-the-tooth vets in Girgensons and Okposo who may be nearing the end of their shelf life, and then either Krebs and waiver claim Jost.

Kulich has been rolling out mostly with Rosen as a linemate, sometimes with each on the wing and Kozak (another rookie) or Jobst (a career AHLer) in the middle of them. The use of Kulich in the middle at the AHL level was just recent and returns are still too early to tell. I suspect his future is more likely on the wing than anywhere else.

As for Ostlund, going way off the topic at hand, his ability to provide defensive cover and play connecting for others looks like it would be fascinating to put together with Rosen and Kulich to me. The GM has had nothing but good things to say about his play and his participation at their prospect event was an eye-opener for those who were not sure about him. I really like him, so I admit to pumping his tires when I can too. I feel the two of Kulich and Ostlund would compliment one another with the pursuit and shoot of Kulich and the responsible, smart, playmaking of Ostlund. Rosen just would be gravy with his shooter-playmaker part. The downside there of course would be three hobbits on a line and the possibility of them being pushed around.
