WC: Czech Team 2022

How about K.Jalonen as a coach now? 9 goals against Sweden is pretty unheard of. I don't remember ever that a team scored 9 goals against another team in EHT. These games are usually tight games. Czech will be scary as hell in the WHC tournament. I've been saying it ever since you/the Czechs hired K.Jalonen that it was a very smart thing to do. I as a fan of Finland can say that Finland had some luck yesterday when Finland won that game vs Czechs. Czech seemed like the better team in that game.

I'm embarrassed by two names, Šimek and Jaškin. Jaškin did not play for several months and I had no idea that he could be nominated, so Šimek probably did not play for performance reasons. I am clearly still in addition to the players of the league finalists. Kundrátek, Nestrašil and Chlapík to be at least at the Swedish Games.
In any case, the coach will have a difficult choice who not to nominate, I'm a little afraid that what would happen last year, when the whole team literally collapsed after the NHL players made up. But there is a coach who has experience and not a crazy Pešán, we must believe that he knows what he is doing.

So happy to see Hertl back in the national team, also Simon, he was stellar for us in 2019.
Some tough cuts coming up. Curious if any extraliga guys are coming? Nestasil, Kundratek, Musil, Chlapik come to mind. Kovar in Swiss?

We have some nice C's now with Krejci, Hertl, Cervenka, Simon, Spacek and maybe Kovar. That's pretty good.

Need another NHL goalie IMO and hope we get one after round 1 (or Dostal)

D is what it is but Simek, Hronek and I think Jiricek should be included. No idea how you pick between the rest... Sulak, Krejcik, Jordan, Jerabek, Scotka, Musil maybe, Kundratek maybe.

Tough cuts for sure.

I don't want to watch another shift of the Jerabek/Jordan/Krejcik trio in NT ever again. These guys just aren't suited for current international hockey. Slow, passive, mistake-prone. No idea what happened to Jerabek tbh, he looked so promising 5-6 years ago, made it to the NHL, won SC with the Caps in 2018... He is terrible out there nowadays. Give me Hronek, Jiricek, Kundratek and Knot (if healthy) on RD and Simek, Sklenicka (what a game he had today), Musil and Sulak on LD. If we can get our hands on any other NHL/AHL defensemen, go for it! I would absolutely love to see Král and Galvas - modern two-way guys who can skate, we don't have these types in Europe.

I think we all want Kral and Galvas.

Is Knot injured?

Nedved said Jaskin called him and asked. I guess Zadina is still in play if he gets cleared (sorry Antti).

I'm hoping to wake up tomorrow to a Bronze and news that Voracek is coming!

We also lost to Germany and Slovakia last week. It doesn't mean much and half the players today won't be in Finland in a week. Don't get me wrong, Jalonen is excellent and I enjoyed the win! It is looking promising for a Semi though. At this point a Quarter win feels like a Gold to me.haha

I thought we looked good in round robin but then Pesan changed entire line before Quarters including benchign Spacek. I recall being furious!

I'm thrilled Simek is coming.. he plays for us and we don't exactly have many great D to choose form. He did have a rough season though.

Jaskin surprised me but he's not guaranteed a spot. He's always been good for the Czechs though and does a great job in bottom 6. Him with Zohorna and Blumel or something like that could be nice. I agree though, didn't expect to hear that name.

Hmm in practice games top country vs top country matters more in my opinion. Who knows what the coaches of top countries are testing against lesser countries. Slovakia and Germany are solid but they are not Sweden or Finland. It's also the classic underdog vs favorite thing. There is no underdog vs favorite in Czech vs Sweden or Finland. It's easier for players. Maybe in the actual WHC for players to motivate themselves is easier.

Almost the whole basic group was a failed joke on our part. It never happened to me that our performance irritated me in such a way.
I don't really know what you promise from Zadina, what I saw Wings, so he plays terrible hockey and I think a lot of their fans hate him. He plays without confidence ... and I really don't, I really don't want to see this player there in this form.

Czechia was better than us. But i never in my life seen someone as bad as Enroth (our goalie). It was insane to see him. Letting in soft goal after soft goal. Without him probaly would have ended like 5-3 to czechia. We won against Czechia in Karjala and Channel one Cup. Swedes will be very hungry for revenge in Beijer Hockey Games.

There is no clear underdog or favourite when Slovakia and Germany play Czechs either. Slovak roster was very weak and still beat Czechs once, and lost in SO other. Than have defeated Germany twice in a row now, with Slovak league players playing significant roles. Ramsay is the game changer, average Slovak league players can sometimes look like seasoned SHL or Liiga players in his system. German roster is also at weak strength too, a few 2002 borns were the vocal points in testing our teams.

The WHC seems pretty wide open this year. It will be interesting to see the extent that NHL guys come over. I think Finland wins gold, that home ice advantage seems to benefit them lots. Where as in other cases it leads to disaster (Slovakia ).

Agree... We have a revenge asskicking coming out way. Just hope in EHT and not WC!

Slovakia isn't the only one with that. You know that there's a thing called home team's curse (or some people call it a thing anyways)? Only Sweden has won gold on home ice and if we don't count that, it's been a very long time since home team managed to win gold. So I find it unlikely that Finland would win it now but it's the gold finger Jukka Jalonen as the coach so maybe Finland can since Finland broke other kinds of Finland's own records under his leadership.

Finland isn't getting many NHL players by the way. There was no luck in which teams went to the playoffs and which didn't. There are many of the Olympic core players though, but I'll stop turning this thread into a team Finland thread now so I'll stop there :).

I have no comeback. I'm just a fan! But you are probably right.

Canada also got Olympic gold on home ice which I think was a curse as well.

I probably already wrote it here, it was just the year 99, when I started watching the youth really closely and Zadina was my favorite player. I was at the HC in Břeclav, I was at the championship in Slovakia. If there's one single player whose development I'm extremely disappointed with, it's Zadina. I don't think he would have a place in the lineup on any good NHL team. I used to get up to his matches at night, you don't even know how sorry I am. I want fighting players there. I have a feeling that he definitely wants to, but the gameplay is very bad and would not be a reinforcement in any way.

My big disappoint is Kaut! Huge fan

I don't understand, isn't there really Nestrašil ?? Guys, who in his current form was clearly to be nominated, at least for SG.
