WC: Czech Team 2022

Nice little game with a very good start.

I'd say we got 'loose' in third.

2 returning injured players:

Blumel looked very good and should be a LOCK for World's (especially after sitting in a hotel room for 2 weeks in China)
Last time I saw Jiricek he was holding his own against Canada and every shift was an event to watch at the World Junior's.
This time he looked like a teenager coming off injury playing against men. I assume every game will get better and that is a tricky surgery and recovery but I didn't necessarily see any magic.

Zdrahal stood out again with an incredible goal. So did Klapka. They probably both get cut but are doing a great job. Ciencilla also looks very good so far.

Next game tomorrow around same time as Fed Cup... go Marketa go!

Also, a rare thing in Czech hockey.. 4 matches today and we won 3.

Germany at Senior level
Slovakia at U16
Swiss at U17

However, FInland smoked our U20 team 4-1

2-0 for Germany today.

As classic a Czech loss as you will ever see. The other team skated hard and gave us some space to setup and control. We don't score and eventually lose.

Cool to see Pouzar!

Flek is a fav of mine but he NEVER scores on his chances.lol Today his shot hit 2 posts and went out. Always gets the breakaway or chance.. great at hustling and getting in spot but just can't finish!

Klapka with some fancy looks again. Zdrahal again with some nice looks.

I'd say the first German goal was very stoppable by Kvaca. The second one was hillarious.. we pulled the goal and Sklenicka passed it to a german tape to tape and he scored on the empty net. I will never be a huge Sklenicka fan on the national team.

Jiricek looked better for sure and was put out in the final few minutes.

Today's roster. Some are not but I'm glad they are giving Zabransky a longer look. He seems to be a 'srdcar' type player for us and goes hard for national team to me. Both he and Jiricek paired with steadier vets is good too.

Nedved came back and said that the NHLers will join for Swedish games without naming any NHLers.lol Maybe I misread it but all I know is coming is Hertl (assuming he stays injury free).

So I have no idea what the final team will look like.

Hoping to see Simek, Hronek, Cervenka, Krejci, Hertl, Vrana, Voracek, Vejmelka, Dostal, Spacek and Zadina added.

Classic Czech loss!

Start well, control. Opponent scores first. We tie it up, play well, control the play.. they score 2 more. We have possession and shots and nothing seems dangerous or imminent at all.

I read an interview with Holecek who said the new generation of teams don't seem to have a few leaders that just get everyone going. He has a point. We have decent players but no one is jumping off the page at all.

Not sure I liked Kvaca's game today to be honest. Defnitely not on goalie when we only score 1 goal.

Nice game this afternoon... Ciencilla got hurt and that isn't good as he was having a nice camp and was eyeing a 12th forward spot. We have a few guys like that it seems.. Klapka, Zdrahal (hero today) and Holik are all battling for depth spots to my eye.

Lukes with some huge saves.

Blumel missed 2 penalty shots but I just love his game. Really wish Edmonton had kept him, he spent a year in AHL and I think he might be knocking on the NHL door now as a bottom 6 guy next season.

And some fun roster updates:

OUT: Martin Lang, Libor Zabransky Jr, Ales Stezka and Stepan Lukes.

Nothing controversial to me.

IN: Roman Cervenka, Matej Stransky, Libor Sulak, Marek Langhammer and Nick Malik

I absolutely want Cervenka there. I did want Malik in camp and maybe as a 3rd guy. Now, in a reversal of what I said at Xmas, I really want him at the summer U20 in our net as I think he's still eligble because he was eligible at Xmas but I could be wrong.

Stransky and Sulak just remind me of failed Olympics along with Jerabek.lol

Oh and Jordan eventually comes back from Covid protocols.

I think they are aiming for an older D core that I'm not sure I'll like at all.lol

Krejcik, Jordan, Sulak, Jerabek are all great players but I'm not sure any will tilt ice for us. Not that I know who would in our program. Add in Hronek and Simek maybe and Jiricek as number 7. That may be it.

I would like to see Kundrátek in defense, he is a quality defender, he can support an attack and he is much more emphatic than some players on the list.

Unfortunately, very bad news. Zadina has appendicitis, and Sedlák and Hyka will not come either. For me, the absence of Sedlák is a greater loss than Zadina, he will be replaced by others. But Sedlák is a type of warrior who can be productive and I like his predation on the ice. This is a pretty big weakening in my opinion.

As you know... I really wanted Zadina! Dammit.

I feel like we have about 20 dman that are a 6 out of 10. It's frustrating. No matter which 6 you pick . They look the same.haha

Unfortunately, the sight of Hronek also frustrates me. His defense is ... terrible ...?

Michael Spacek joins the team.
David Ciencala and Nick Malik are out because of an injuries.
Stepan Lukes is back on the team.

Here is the tweet... I think Malik is going the path of Pavel Zacha!

Thrilled Spacek is coming...

Our forward group is getting quite good...

Cervenka, Spacek and Krejci are nice building blocks! Smejkal and Blumel, I hope, are locks.

Guys I'm curious about are Kubalik (no contract), Vrana, Voracek (50 assists! and looked great beating up my Oiler's yesterday), Simek(has a contract) and Vejmelka (now has a contract).

I'm a little nervous about our list in attack. The coaches apparently did not count on so many apologies and left some good players off the roster. Now it is not at all certain how many players from Europe will still be available and willing to go to the championship. We have three reinforcements from the NHL (and the coaches are no doubt praying now that they are healthy), the rest is not at all certain. So now there are the most players in the line-up from Karlovy Vary. Maybe it won't become a farce ..

However, Šimek does not play, he is injured, he has played only half of the matches, he probably still has health problems. I'd rather see someone like Galvas in the lineup. And of course, as I write above, we have a problem. It would be great to add Voráček and Kubalík to the set, but nothing is certain at all ..

Trying to read between the lines... have they all passed their physicals and are released? Will there be bad news tomorrow? Otherwise.. I think this is great.

2 D and a Starting Goalie incoming.

Some good wingers too (sorry Anti)

Surprised about Jaskin.

Looking at Playoffs.. we got some Czech vs Czech matchups and someone will shake loose I hope:

Nashville vs Colorado is also Rittich vs Francouz (backups but Saros is hurt right now and Francouz has had a good season)

Caps vs Panthers - Gudas vs Vanecek/Kempny

Boston vs Carolina - Necas vs Pasta/Nosek

Toronto vs Tampa - Palat/Rutta vs Kampf/Kase (who is coming back)

Pens vs Rangers - R. Zohorna vs Chytil/Hajek

If we could get a Necas or Pasta that would be great. Vanecek would be a dream. I would be happy with Rittich or Francouz tandem with Vejmelka.
