As a Leafs fan, I will be looking forward to seeing Kral, about whom I know very little. What role do folks here see him having in the tournament? Thanks

Top 4, 2nd PP unit. Should get plenty of ice time.

Sure our defence isn’t the greatest but it’s not much worse then last year. Galvas, Kral, and Salda are all returnees. I expect a lot out of Galvas considering he is doing well in Czech league against men and plays a lot of minutes.
Kral will be the more offensive decenseman we need. Salda pretty good offensively as well (could be our top PP guy).
I think this year is our last chance for a while to get a medal maybe.
The forward depth is amazing by Czech standards and is quite a bit better then last year. We still leaned on players like Zachar, Reichel, and Kurovsky to produce. That simply won’t be good enough to get you a medal, although they all had some bright points in the tournament.
Our top 9 is very good and should be able to keep pressure on some of the better teams.

Excited for this year, but would be more excited if a couple 2019 draft eligibles made the team. Or 2020 ;)

Don’t see that happening though...

Michal Teplý or Hugo Haš, one of them should make the team, I personally expect both of them to make it.

I saw a Facebook post saying Necas, Kaut and Zadina will be at World's... Has Necas been confirmed yet? 4 points last night in AHL.. he's now got 17 points in 21 games. He got zero point in his first 4 games so he actually has 17 points in his last 17 games. I think he could really tear shit up at the Jr's and then go back to the NHL and never look back in January

the Czech Vs Russia game could be really exciting

Yeah me too!!! Going to be in Edmonton for Christmas (fiancées family lives there). All big Canada hockey fans. Thankfully my parents are joining us but me and my dad will be outnumbered for sure. Still going to be repping the Czech jerseys though!
Češi do toho!!

I envy you.

With a roster like this, it will be a lot about goaltending. When a team's defenders are not top notch, but at the same time have certain potential, you always need a keeper, who is able to make some confident saves early into the game, and boost the defenders in front of him with some of his own confidence. At the other hand, when the goalkeeper allows a cheap goal, the defenders start to feel nervous, make needless giveaways. So it will be really crucial for the Czech coaches to choose the right goaltender for the first game against Switzerland.

To be fair it has always been about goaltending. When you remove Korenar's game against Finland in the quaterfinals last year, you have to go to Mrazek's godly perfomace in 2012 in order to find a goalie who made confident saves. I am not blaming our goalies for the U20s getting spanked every year, but I do wish we finally get a goalie who is decent and consistent throughout the whole tournament. It would be even better if started to produce 1st/2nd round talent defensemen though, as we wouldn't have to worry about our goaltending as much.
Until that happens (if ever), we have to hope, just like every year, that this tournament we get the Mrazek/Godla-like goalie who takes us to medal.

Necas with 3 more points last night... 7 points in last 2 games. Good god am I worried he gets the call up to Carolina after this weekend. He now has 20 points in 22 games in the AHL.. that is phenomenal for a 19 year old... his star is burning bright and I'm pretty sure he finishes the season in the NHL after the Jrs but hopefully not before. Chytil is still getting good minutes for the Rangers... he got almost 19 minutes last night. I know he isn't scoring but he's also not sitting on line 4 getting 10 minutes a night. He's also getting Powerplay time. I don't think he's heading to the Juniors.

I'm not saying I think he'll be released, but two of the Rangers three best wingers are still injured. I wouldn't take much about his position until Zuccarello and Buchnevich return, which should be within the next week.

When they return, the lineup should be something like

Top 9 centers: Zibanejad, Hayes, Howden
Top 9 wingers: Kreider, Zuccarello, Buchnevich

I also think Vesey is a lock for top 9 minutes. Quinn gives him big minutes, even though he doesn't deserve the minutes. That leaves two winger spots. Namestnikov has mostly been top 9 this season in Quinn's lineup, and I think Chytil will stay in it as well, but if he chooses to give Strome top 9 minutes, I'm not going to be surprised.

Quinn has been known to do some weird things with the lineup, so I wouldn't be sure about any of this, but I don't think Chytil is definitely not getting released.

With the expansion draft now in 2021 keeping those 19 year olds in the AHL this year so they won't have to be protected should be a huge consideration for teams. Not saying Carolina won't do things differently but I think we'll see all of Necas, Zadina and Kaut play less than 10 games in the NHL this year.

Doubt Ostap Safin makes the team this year he’s been out all year with a lower body injury he came back and played seven games but his injury is being evaluated more and he’s been sent to Edmonton. Very unfortunate.

I think that all 3 are confirmed, but not really sure.
If that's true the Czech's should be better than usual, given this teams previous experience. For a team that seems like it makes an annual tradition of losing in the quarters, last year they did buck the trend and make it to the medal round. Now I know they got spanked once they got there, but when factoring in that Finland isn't going to be all that strong, and the American's don't have another generational team like they seem to have had in years past, the potential for the Czech's to get to the semi's again seems high(er).

The U19 team sucks, atleast Matěj Blümel is proving that he should be on the final roster.

Did anyone see the matches? How Michal Teplý is doing?
