WJC: Czech Republic 2019 Roster Talk

When crap like this happens I always remind myself it's just one short silly tournament. A medal would be great, but in long run doesn't mean anything. Remember 2015, where we almost ended up playing in the relegation round (and instead lost to Slovakia in QF)? Well, looking at that team from today's perspective it turned out pretty decent... Pastrnak, Vrana, Kase, Kubalik and potentially more in the future.

But still, Zadina was the player I was looking forward the most. Nobody on the Czech is even close to his scoring ability.

Nobody on the Czech is even close to his scoring ability? I think Necas wants a word. Losing Zadina sucks for the team but you guys have other players that are good to. Everything isn't depending on one player.

Necas is still not confirmed as going.
 
Zadina might not go... Not how I wanted to start my day! A necas confirmation would be nice. I get other countries go through this... Still, currently unconfirmed... Chytil, necas, zadina and safin. That is 4 top six guys.

Necas is not a finisher. Who is gonna convert on his passes if Zadina is not there? All the other Czech players will miss an empty net 4 out of 5 times.

Chytil is in the NHL and playing reasonably well, nothing wrong with him staying there. Safin is not a top 6 player for us anyway, if healthy he would be my pick for the most underwhelming Czech of the tournament. (Well either him or Skarek.)

Sad, but ultimately very true. Imo Zadina is a pure goalscoring player in the mould of Vrana, Frk and Hejduk. Those kind of players are rare and will always be a big loss if injured.

That's where I was worried... Torn ACL - out 8 months. Back to hockey in September.

Of course, not sure what a torn groin recovery looks like so it might be worse. I'm hoping bruising and swelling. He is so key for us.
 
Czechs are playing evenly.. but 2 bad miscues and 2 goals. Both defensive errors. 2-0 Canada very early.
 
Canadian goalie playing awesome... Czechs are peppering him. It's a shame it is 2-0 because Czechs look good so far. I've seen way too many ugly games between the Czechs and US/Canada. This feels/looks much more even.

They are and unfortunately there is nobody like them in the next years. If Zadina is out, I doubt we see any Czech score 5+ goals at the WJC anytime soon.

Czech second tier players against Canadian what, eight tier players? Our top U20 team will still get blown out by Canada and USA so whatever.

Ill have to disagree with you there. Safin is most definitely a top 6 player for us this year. He has an incredible blend of size, speed, skill, and two way ability. This will be vital for success against Canada and Russia. I understand he’s inconsistent at times but if he’s 100% healthy like you say, then being the most underwhelming Czech player is a stretch of a statement.

I keep checking here to see two embedded twitters confirming Necas and Zadina. I agree with above, I don't see Chytil coming. He's averaging around 16 minutes a night for the Rangers and getting Special teams. They seem to have gone all in on him. That is great news from a Senior National Team perspective! Not so much from a Junior one as he's also an excellent defensive presence and we'll need help down low.
 
Hopefully Chytil and Safin can be there. This tournament is better when there are more competitive teams. I hope the Czech's can make a run for a medal.

I honestly don't have any high hopes for Chytil to be available. It would be great, but he plays regularly in Rangers, not just a few minutes per game. WJC would perhaps be a step down for him, and I suppose this is the opinion of the Rangers management too.

Yeah true but he’s still only 19. WJC could be a good boost for him. As it has been for many stars in the past. He has the chance to be a leader for a competitive team.
Not saying he’ll be sent, but I don’t see too many downsides to it. It’s not like he has 20-30 points in NHL. He has 11 in 32 GP.

Let's see. I would love to see him there, but I am a little bit skeptical toward the possibility of him being available.
