Ostap Safin is out because of an injury during the training camp. It is a loss, I saw him as a solid 2nd-3rd liner. I am wondering whether they will call Blümel or Rousek now.
I like Varada, but if Kern is indeed the one getting called up from the U19...
Rousek was by far the best Czech forward at the WJAC, followed by Teply. How did those not get a call up? Regarding Blumel, he didn't look that good at the U19 tournament.
I think we will have a 1st rounder. And I don't really care C. Button and some others think otherwise, Czechs rarely get rated fairly.
Ostap Safin left the team because of an injury. Loss for sure, but not as big as it might seem.
1-2 round potential:I thought Rousek looked great but is he a 'Top 6' guy because those roles are getting filled pretty quickly. I think the Czechs are going the Classic Top 6/Bottom 6 where they went bottom 6 guys to be energy guys that dump and chase etc. I'm not saying I like this but that has been the norm for a long time (probably around the time we started not winning).
Safin is a loss for sure as I think a healthy Safin could've filled in on the Top 6 as a complimentary player with a big body. However, if all of Necas, Chytil, Zadina and Kaut were unavailable and we were looking at Ostap to carry the offence... I would've been worried.
Who do you see as the top Czech prospects for the upcoming draft?
I would love to hear anyone's thoughts on Kaut as well. I know he had a rough off season with the health scare and this lead to a slower start.
He is a very good skater, plays a mature game for a guy of his age. Quite strong on the puck, works hard, but at the same time lacks finishing abilities a little bit in my opinion.
I've watched some highlights this year and it looks like his shot is becoming more reliable, if he can become a good finisher what would you project him as? First line, Top 6, Mid 6?

Thank You. Nice list. Our team this year has almost no draft elibible players, correct? (note: I know it isn't finalized yet).
Excited to see him play. Sounds like a late first/second round pick.I believe Martin Hugo Haš will make the final roster. A very promising prospect.

Strondala? Small, but too skilled to leave off.
I'm surprised they went with Blumel over Rousek, Rousek was all over the ice in the WJAC, albeit as a 19-year old vs. a lot of 17- and 18-year olds. But he was consistently dangerous in every game. Blumel is what he is, a decent all-around player and volume shooter. He can have some strong 1-game showings but it must get awfully frustrating seeing him miss the net and rimming the puck out of the zone. Rousek seems a little more multi-faceted and more creative.
Agree completely on Rousek. Doesn't really feel fair he got ignored while Kern with Blumel got the call, he outclassed them both by a fair margain at the WJAC. I am also somewhat sad Teply didn't get called up, he was playing well in the two U20 tournaments he took part in. And again, I think he outplayed both Blumel and Kern at the WJAC as well.Strondala? I don't like dividing players into "top 6 role" and "bottom 6 role", you take the best player available, period. Nowdays everyone should be capable of two-way game.
I've mentioned his awkard skating earlier in the thread as well I believe. It looks weird, but in my opinion it still gets the job done and Rousek didn't struck me as a slow skater. And despite the skating he still stood out at the WJAC, unlike Blumel and Kern, who might have skating advantage over him. Also, mind the pace of the game. The WJC is significantly faster than the WJAC. The player's adaptibility to the higher pace is a huge factor for sure, and for example Rousek's skating at least optically looks slightly awkward.
Is Zadina confirmed with the team? I just heard Bruno Gervais (at RDS) say that Zadina was going to stay with Grand Rapids.
