Cyberpunk 2077 - New RPG by CD PROJEKT RED

Yeah, that was kind of my broad experience – I was pretty skeptical of all the hyperbolic claims about it being unplayable, then finding it fine, some minor problems. I never had any really bad FPS drops, but I had a hard crash, and with the minor glitches and reports of routine crashes, I decided to just pump the brakes. I ended up veering wildly away and just tossing in Horizon Zero Dawn, which I picked up for $10 and have never played.

I sent CDPR an email just to see what will happen. My view is that they intentionally hid the base console performance, with some assists to incompetence / pandemic stress but it's too coordinated to think otherwise for me. I hope the patches will improve the experience but ultimately decided I'll have a better time if I wait, even if it seemed possible to just deal with the issues. If I can somehow get the refund I'm just going to take it, though I don't know how it's going to work directly from the company. Otherwise I'll probably just keep it and wait for information about the ongoing updates and/or until I cave and buy a PS5 next year.

Well ended up playing another 3 hours. It's still clearly not a perfectly optimized experience on base ps4. But that FPS drop in combat, a very small portion of a cutscene was missing audio, and a game crash after trying to exit the braindance tutorial were the worst things I experienced. The further I got, the less the game would momentarily freeze and saw texture render delays a lot less frequently.

I was able to get through Act 1 getting to experience all the story had to offer with pretty minimal problems so I'd say the game is at least playable on my base console but I'm still looking forward to whatever improvements they can implement. Right about now feeling pretty satisfied I was able to pick this up nearly half off.

For the people knocking the RPG elements of this game and Witcher, I’m just curious which games are better at RPGs? I’d like to try my hand at them to compare myself.

Fallout NV is one of my fave games and I see a lot of similarities between it and Cyberpunk with their releases. Outer worlds was a very nice surprise of a game too which I really enjoyed. I guess I don’t see how the “RPG” aspect of those two games are better than that of Punk and Witcher. They seem the same level to me.
The main difference is that New Vegas offers many more options in terms how you handle quests. Cyberpunk is basically on rails for most quests and your dialogue choices don't matter. None of the skill point checks really do anything aside from make encounters a bit easier. Most of the player agency in Cyberpunk is you choosing to use hacking, stealth, melee or ranged combat, or a combination of those. There is a decent amount of variety there, but I don't think the game won't hold up as well as New Vegas during subsequent playthroughs due to the lack of different branching paths to take in quests.

In The Witcher there are some choices during quests but there also aren't many different playstyles. There are also no skill points/checks. You are very much playing a predetermined character.

As for other games I would consider better RPGs, the first two Fallout games, Divinity: Original Sin 1/2, Wasteland series.

You still haven't answered his question. Pointing out that the recent patch may be the reason why you don't experience the same volume of bugs as those who played pre-patch only reinforces that you're in no position to judge that they were just "whiny babies."

Because the majority of the whining about games is because they’re whiny babies. My claim is not unfounded.

::edit:

Reddit is full of whiny babies posting in game subreddits. Their collective IQ when they whine is that of a pile of rocks.

Dude, I DGAF about your channel so don’t bother me with a Twitter link. Get outta here with that garbage. You’re not answering my question that I’ve asked twice now. I won’t ask it again. Go pump up your channel someplace else where people care.

I don’t care if you follow it or not. Frankly you’ve been an asshat about this whole thing so I’m not obliged to answer you a single damned thing.

One thing PS4 players need to accept is that this is new technology on aging if not extinct hardware. It’s never going to ever run good.

While all likely true, you have to remember CDPR not only sold it on those platforms without disclaimer, but also said it ran "surprisingly well" on said ancient hardware.

I will say the PC requirements were a little misleading as well. I'm basically specced out for the recommended 1080p High, but it struggles to maintain 60 FPS on mostly Medium with a few things turned to low....so either their definition of "runs well" is 20 FPS, or they underestimated their system requirements.

Not as big of a deal regarding my setup on PC, but still...makes me wish I had a card capable of using DLSS

Yeah there's the confirmation part of your entirely predictable confirmation bias.

So no matter what is going to happen to them, they'll come back and do the same shit to customers, investors and platform holders. They give no f***s because they got paid.
I wouldn't be so sure. They have a lot of trust to get back from consumers if they want another commercial hit. As botched gaming releases go, this is probably one of the most publicized ever.

No doubt you were satisfied finding everything you hoped you would with your play through. Maybe people will stop whining now.

You may think that it's just speaking with "no filter," but calling people who complained about bugs "the mob" and "whiny babies" was sort of being an "asshat" to a lot of people here. You should expect some pushback for that, and he was actually more polite than he needed to be, IMO. Instead of chewing you out, he twice asked you to clarify and lost his temper only when you replied to him for the third time without answering him.

What it looks like is that you think that people who made a big deal about bugs with the Day 1 patch were just "whiny babies" and you're going to prove it to yourself by playing the game after the Week 2 patch. It looks like that and as though you realize that that makes no sense because you've refused to explain why that's not the case.

Well good thing you're on a site where that doesn't happen. Oh wait...

It's a good thing that he's on a site where people like to whine about people whining. ;)

There's way more of the latter here than the former. Just go to the Main board, Soccer board or Entertainment board and it doesn't take long to fine incessant whining about several things. And I haven't even brought up team boards...

Naturally, there are more people who use a message board to voice complaints than there are people who are willing to use an insulting term like "whining" to describe them. You act like it's a fact, but it's only a fact that they're complaining. "Whining" is just a spin word for looking down on and dismissing critical opinions that you're tired of hearing. At least the majority of people who complain around here aren't trying to be insulting or act superior. They're just venting their frustrations. If you have to use an insulting term like "whining" to show how little you think of those frustrations, then it suggests arrogance and an intolerance of other opinions, IMO.

I get it if you're just a naturally positive person and it irritates you that a lot of people just like to complain. I'm sort of the reverse and find that it irritates me when people act overly positive, especially for their teams. I try to resist calling them "homers" and "fanboys," though, because those are basically as disparaging and dismissive as "whiners." They're entitled to their opinions and to not be insulted for them, even if I feel that they're wrong. I think that you should just accept that a message board like this is naturally going to be full of people voicing complaints and either argue with them or ignore them.

Your doing no better by whining about the whinners....

Up to about 14 hours or so which is a lot more playtime than I thought I'd be getting this fast. Wouldn't go so far as to say 1.05 fixed the game, but at least on my base ps4, the game is playable enough that I've been able to immerse myself in the game and the story which I've been really enjoying. The parts of Cyberpunk that work are, maybe not the peak of what I was expecting, since I was expecting CDPR to grow and build on what they did with the Witcher 3. This is not growth but its the quality I expect from their storytelling. Act 1 was a hell of a ride and the growing narrative of act 2 is just as compelling with many side quests having plenty of compelling narratives with depth and genuine heart. It should speak to me being happy that they haven't lost their touch as storytellers, but what it ends up being is something so disheartening because for many, when looking back at the game they won't remember the highs of what it has to offer. They'll remember the shitshow that was its launch.

The inventory management is a pain in the ass. Like, mass effect level pain in the ass.
I will agree there.. this is same level annoying as the first mass effect. You go through a quest, you better stop off and sell a boat load of crap or your going to max out again quick.

It was a godsend when Mass Effect 2 dropped the inventory completely, and just offered loadout options instead based on what you've aquired.

Seems many RPGs love having crappy inventory systems that are just headaches to deal with.

This will never be a great game, minor fixes and removing the bugs won't be enough. Absolutely pathetic effort. Amazing that there are so many positive reviews, tells all you need to know about "professional" game reviews.

The entire AI, cops, physics etc needs to be redone and that ain't happening.

FYI for anyone who might be thinking of contacting CDPR for a direct refund (though iirc the window to ask for one is now over): I got a form email which is simple enough to fill out, and seems to indicate that you will physically send the disks back to them (at their cost). Not a huge surprise, really, though I wasn't totally sure they'd ask for the discs to be sent to them in Poland (or some other subsidiary office), since they don't seem to have much use for them other than as a way to make sure people are legitimately wanting a refund.

What's even more annoying is whining about people whining about whiners.

I'm having a blast with this game, but having to replace my computer earlier this year definitely has a lot to do with that. This is the first multi-platform game I can think of getting first on PC and considering I don't own the new consoles, the timing worked out oddly nicely for me. It's still buggy as shit, but I haven't had any crashes or major issues yet.
