Cyberpunk 2077 - New RPG by CD PROJEKT RED

They aren't going the Sony route with de-listing the game, but for those who may be thinking of getting a refund still.

I asked for it for christmas... far too late to do anything about that now. And I have an I don't even know how old PS4. Not launch day but probably 6 months after.

Ah well. It'll sit on the shelf until they unbork it sometime in 2021.

They tried for Witcher 3 2.0, and got No Man's Sky 2.0.

Glad I bought this for PC. I don't think I remember a game being so vastly superior on it compared to the console port. Not even trying to master race anything, it's legit a good game on PC. Yea there's some technical problems here and there, but nothing even close to last gen consoles. They really should've delayed it for those consoles and just released the PC version and the improved current gen patch versions.
The biggest mistake they made is that they purposefully mislead reviewers by only giving them the PC version and implying it was representative of how it played on all systems. That's where CDPR went from a company that made a bad product, to one that purposefully deceived the public. Pretty unethical.

They basically had 2 options that they could have gone with, that would piss people off, but wouldn't destroy the reputation of the company. First, they could have just said due to the pandemic (a completely unforeseen event for a game developer) that we can't get this product out in time in a completed state. The second option is to just acknowledge that this game can't work for the current-gen of systems, and scrap them, and wait to release until X Box Series X and PS5 have a solid user-base in a 6-months year. Instead, they took the option of misleading reviewers who help guide people who buy games at launch, and wouldn't scrap the PS4 and X-Box One product because they represented too much of the customer base (I believe they still represent about 70% of game sales). Finally, they then put Sony and Microsoft in a bind by implying refunds should be gettable without coming up with a plan with their 2 biggest distributors. I honestly wonder if Sony is going to sue them for the costs they are going to have to eat refunding the game and the fees to do that with credit card merchants.

Microsoft doesn’t have to remove it because they already had a pretty decent refund policy for digital games. Sony didn’t, and is usually a nightmare to deal with if you want a refund or get hacked, so they didn’t want to deal with it anymore, which I don’t really blame them for.

PC is about half their sales for CP.

59% of Cyberpunk preorders were on the PC. The game was also literally the biggest PC game launch of all time. Suggesting CD Projekt will have to shut down is pretty ridiculous.

The base console performance is bad, but the ps4 pro and xbox one x isn't... what is the percentage of those trying to play it on the base console vs the pro and one x?

I'm loving the game on my ps4 pro.

CD Projekt's stock dropped almost 25% since the announcement wiping out their entire gains from the year, lmaoooo. What a complete disaster!

I wonder if this is going to change any other game developers minds about releasing games on old AND new gen consoles going forward. Halo: Infinite is the first one to come to mind. Maybe it's a mistake to cater these games to older hardware at this point and spreads resources too thin.

You'd be cutting a huge chunk of potential revenue going that route. Considering the idea that investing in a new system is a venture that creeps into $1000s, your larger market is likely on the older console.

Nah, they will release on all because they want the $$$. They just need to do it right and possibly one of the reasons Halo is delayed.

Count me in with those who are going to wait to play it. I did play it for 3 hours, but it didn't grab me enough to justify continuing with a low framerate at low/med settings on my old PC. It's playable, but I'd rather just go through my backlog of games that run better, are more polished and that I'll find more fun (and, in fact, I've been playing one for the last few days). I scratched an itch by getting a firsthand taste of CP and am now content to wait until I upgrade my PC. Even if it still doesn't exactly grab me then, at least I'll be able to admire it for the eye candy. It makes it even easier to wait to know that the release was a disaster and that others are putting off playing it, as well.

There's always a crossover period between console generations. The usual indicator of when a console is considered dead is when EA stop making FIFA for it. It'll be a year or two before I upgrade regardless.

I posted a few pages back about Skyrim, that was a game released right at the end of the 360/PS3 cycle, but Bethesda used that to make a game that exploited those systems to the max.

There have been many great games released between the transition of previous generation of console. It is nothing ever that bad like Cyberpunk was.

They will recover but their next big release will be more scrutinized and with significantly less pre orders.

I don't even understand how this would work in the event that you have an opened physical copy. They just send you a check?

This has been said before in this thread, but ultimately the original sin of Cyberpunk 2077 was the decision to release on current-gen (or now, last-gen consoles).

There are problems with the game from a pure design perspective, but there's no reason the discussion right now should be about a cutting edge game failing to run well on 7 year old hardware. Can you imagine anybody in the PC space having the gall to complain 'hey, your 2020 game doesn't run well on my 2013 hardware'? They'd be laughed off any forum they posted that on.

Yet here we are. With this shit cocktail of corporate hype machine and fan entitlement, false promises and unrealistic expectations.

How much better off is CDPR right now if Cyberpunk 2077 was a PC exclusive in 2020 and came to next-gen (or now current gen) consoles in 2021? How much more time do they have to polish the game?

The problem is you can't justify Cyberpunks budget if its a PC excusive for a bit and then next-gen later.

Just think: this could've been even worse. If they hadn't delayed the game until after the new consoles came out, the whole console side of the release would've been a disaster. At least right now, you can play it if you're willing to pony up for a PS5 or XBX/S, which would not have been doable (short of buying an expensive PC) if it had been released in late Spring like originally planned.
