So if they decide on a site before the end of the season does this mean shovels in the ground right away or do they have to another plebiscite?

If they have to extend their stay at Mullet Arena it is really bad.

If the Tempe vote had gone their way, right now they would be barely half way into cleaning out the landfill.

AFAIK, none of these other sites are going to require 12 months or so just to prep the site that TED required.

Second executive resigns from Arizona Coyotes in a week

To quote:

"Rich Nairn, one of the longest-tenured employees with the Coyotes, announced on Sept. 19 that he has resigned as the National Hockey League team’s executive vice president of communication and broadcasting.

As the executive vice president of communication and broadcasting, Nairn was the primary spokesman for the Coyotes, and he managed the Coyotes' broadcasting partnerships. He also headed public relations campaigns and was heavily involved in the team’s efforts to push out messaging for the Tempe referendum vote this past May that would have allowed the Coyotes to build a new arena and entertainment district. Voters rejected that development.

In a statement, Nairn did not give specific business reasons for leaving, but said he wanted to “explore new opportunities, and spend more time with my family.” Nairn will stay with the team through the month of October to help launch the 2023-24 NHL season."

Two people leaving is hardly an exodus. Given the future of sports broadcasting, Rich may have just read the tea 'leavings' and decided to find a different avenue to work in.

One went back to a bigger job in pro soccer, which is where he originally came from.

The other one spent 27-years with the franchise and all the same pain and suffering the fans got put though. He’s earned a break.

As far as watching the game live I'm sure it is great.
Of course it is! Don’t know why so many here are so serious about something so trivial. Nobody is dieing, or being abused, the world economy isn’t being effected in any significant manner and the sun will rise and set…. No matter what the Coyotes do, or the outcome.

While it's always curious if someone leaves without something else lined up, it could be one of many things. So I agree it's not concerning unless it starts to be a trend.

There’s a rumor Nairn is staying in hockey, and in Arizona. But that’s all I know atm.

Friedman on his 32 podcast the other day was commenting how difficult a job it’s been being the PR front guy with the Coyotes through all the turmoil and sticking it out for this long.

Yeah it's got to be a tough job. He might also just have another offer that appeals to him or he may just not get along with someone. It's not a red flag unless more people start bolting.

After this many years I would think the travel. He mentioned about wanting to be with family more.

Not directly Coyotes related but any doubts Alex Meruelo doesn't have the financial chutzpah to build an entertainment district can cease.....

The next home for Nevada men's basketball will be at the Grand Sierra Resort, casino owner Alex Meruelo announced Wednesday.

The arena will seat 10,000 spectators for basketball, said University of Nevada President Brian Sandoval. Lawlor Events Center, the team's current home, seats 11,536 for basketball.

The proposed arena will be built on the 140-acre Grand Sierra Resort property, along with a new hotel and convention tower, 800 new hotel rooms, 300 new residences and upgrades to the resort's Grand Bay water feature. Construction would be privately funded, in what Meruelo called a "$1 billion investment." The Nevada System of Higher Education and a casino spokeswoman confirmed that no university funds or taxpayer dollars would be used for the basketball venue's construction.

Coyotes owner unveils massive arena, entertainment complex. But not in Arizona

To quote:

"Alex Meruelo, the owner of the Arizona Coyotes, said Thursday he’ll invest $1 billion in private capital to build a new sports arena and an entertainment district to surround it. But it's not in the Valley, and it won't house a National Hockey League franchise.

At an event with city and university leaders — and college cheerleaders to boot — Meruelo announced he’ll be making the largest private capital investment in the history of Reno, Nevada, according to a report from the Reno Gazette Journal. University of Nevada cheerleaders even spelled and yelled out "A-L-E-X," at one point during the announcement, the Gazette Journal reported.

The Gazette Journal pointed out that it is unknown at this point what approvals, if any, the Nevada System of Higher Education — the governing body over the state’s colleges — would have to grant for the deal to move forward.

Andrew Diss, chief strategy officer for Meruelo Gaming, told the Nevada Appeal that the project will be funded by a spate of investors and multiple investment firms have already shown interest in taking an equity stake of the basketball arena. Meruelo said that the university will not have to pay one dollar to construct the arena.

A spokesperson for Washoe County, which includes Reno, confirmed to the Business Journal that no county incentives would help fund the project. A representative of the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority suggested that "the RSCVA board of directors has not had any discussions related to potential funding," while a spokesperson from the city of Reno indicated that the announcement "came from a private entity and we don't have any more information at this time.""

Where was this spate of investors and multiple investment firms when Alex could have built his own arena without tapping into the public purse?

I'm sure the university will not have to pay one dollar to construct the arena. I'm sure there will be other aspects that Alex wants the university to contribute towards.
