Maybe they will find a way in Arizona.
Maybe they buy the veterans memorial colliseum in Phoenix, demolish it an build a new Arena there.
But for now we don't know what will Happen.
And to me it is Not the time to speculate. Lets wait and see what will happen.
Its the old "2 weeks" saying again.

Ahhh well time to build a supermax there and hopefully the remediation and infrastructure costs skyrocket so the tax payers are actually directly on hook for the bill.

Just to be fair to the ownership of the Yotes, they're not completely incompetent or as moronic as they are being made out to be by posters. The goal for ownership has been quite clear for a long time, it's just people have a lot of assumptions about people's goals in business. There is a good reason the Coyotes slashed all of their expenditures and worked to actually profit for the first time in recorded history during 2021-2022. They actually pulled in a several million dollar profit despite being one of the worst teams in the league. Their motivation for years has been to slowly build the case for relocation and sell to another ownership group. However, they had to save face in this matter. Bettman has made it clear for years that he doesn't want Arizona to leave, and the owners of the Yotes had to make a somewhat credible attempt to stay in Arizona. They didn't want to win this vote. From an investment standpoint, they have done an interesting job of making the team attractive to investors. If you purchase the Coyotes you get a better deal versus expansion ( an estimated 450m vs 650m). You have an active revenue stream from licensing and possibly selling the rights to the old Jets back to the new jets. Coyotes have a better financial situation (because the Coyotes stripped assets and reduced cap-costs), have more draft capital versus an expansion franchise. The end goal was always the same regardless of whatever they will publicly state: sale + relocation.
NHL is not in a position to expand the league even more right now and no team besides Arizona is in a position where they need to relocate. Coyotes can sit back and wait for the bidding war, knowing that regardless of what the end price is and where the team goes, they've probably made a hundred to two hundred million in profit.

This has been the plan for a very long-time, and to a degree I have to admire a group who are so motivated by money that they are willing to sabotage their own reputation and sink the Yotes ship.
You’re gonna have to be more specific about exectly how long this has been the plan, because Bettman has spent a third of his life and over three quarters of his tenure at this when this could’ve been done a long time ago and not lost the money they have.

Man...I hate this for Yotes fans. So sorry :(

Hope there's a Phoenix Plan B already in the works.
For the complete shitshow on and off the ice the team has been for much of it's existence the fact there are Yotes fans shows they are some of the best NHL fans out there. I really hope there is a plan B too and the team can stop treading water, imagine the kind of support they could have if they were worth supporting and I seriously tip my hat to Yotes fan for enduring everything they have and still coming back for more.

I guess people can feel safer since Plan B isn't illegal in Arizona right?

I was surprised when I woke up and checked Twitter and saw that it didn't pass. Will this be the official start of the end for the Coyotes in Arizona? Honestly it's hard to say as they picked the wrong animal for the franchise given how many times we thought the were, or at least should have been, dead given things happening at the time.

I think now is when we will truly see just how serious of an owner Alex Muruelo is. Personally I've long since said that he was just an owner on paper with not actual money involved and that this whole thing had more to do about the non arena part of the TED.

Wow. Did not expect this to be the case.

They...don't appear to have a lot of options.

Seriously. That was quite an outrageous take, frankly.

The thing that confuses me the most, here, is the union aspect. I see in previous posts that allegedly the plan had some promises to local unions. Being that unions aren't in the business of killing union labor, there was clearly something in the guarantees that they didn't like. Or they felt that the Coyotes ownership group was going to back out or try to change things.

Unions aren't generally going to run some pressure campaign against a project with a lot of union labor.

Really curious to see what bubbles up about the union aspect on this. May be a red herring, but interesting nonetheless.

I remember back in the day when they were one council vote away from moving to Winnipeg back in 2011 I guess it was, that the argument from Coyotes fans was if they played in Scottsdale where the fans are, that it would be a better fit, is there a Scottsdale plan of some sort?

Barring any last minute purchase by Mat Ishbia the lights will be turned off on the yotes in Arizona. Sad day as the franchise never really had a chance from the get go in terms of stability and their on ice success was sorely lacking too. Anyone who blames the fanbase is ignorant. No market can sustain multiple ownerships, crappy arenas and the threat of relocation every year.

Arizona has changed a lot recently, but at it's core it basically is one of the birthplaces of the modern anti-tax moment. Any kind of public funding deal for a sports team, especially one that doesn't have as broad of an appeal of the other three of the big four, had to have been an inherent longshot, right?

And I recognize that there was an apparent misinformation campaign, but that's a given for basically any election going forward. Ownership can't push this deal, barely spend money campaigning for it (unless I'm mistaken), and be surprised at striking out.

I feel bad for Yotes fans. They are solid and have had to put up with a lot. But the lesson is that there just aren't enough of them to expect a team-friendly set of referenda to pass in a public vote.

I expect relocation very promptly.

I wonder if they'll make Meruelo whole like they did with previous owners? Can't imagine they want him anywhere near the owners club any longer.

Seems like he wanted to own the team for the sportsbook. Unless he can get one in another location (and if he wants one in another location) I doubt he keeps the team.

Yeah, seriously. Was that laziness or hubris?

The whole thing is bizarre.

I feel like either this is some massive conspiracy from the top down, bottom up (involving the NHL, the various cities, various ownerships, shady outside unions, etc.) or it's just not a great hockey market.

I'm really sorry to say, but as someone who is not a massive conspiracy theorist, my bet is on one of the two things above and I imagine it can be figured out fairly easily.

I said earlier in the thread that the Coyotes would outlive us all regardless of how the vote went, but those brief statements from ownership and the league didn't come off as encouraging at all. If this really is the beginning of the end it sucks for all the fans (and everyone in the organization) who stuck things out through some really grim times... They deserve better.
