Its a sports talk show in a hockey first country (Canada has 2 teams in the other 3 major leagues). Do you expect TSN to run infomercials all summer? They talked about it for 3 and a half minutes. Its not like they have a regular "Why the Coyotes should move" segment everyday.

Well they've already had those annually since 2009.

Its a hockey-first market not a hockey-last market. They talk about every team at some point in the summer they talked about Carolina when they were last in attendance. With the number of hours that have to be filled over the summer each team is going to come up at some point and how so you discuss the Coyotes and this not come up?

Why? You'd think a country that eats and sleeps hockey would have enough subject matter within its own borders to talk about for more than a year.

Unless of course the lack of success at it to the US franchises makes it look for something there to whine about just to prop up its lack of self-esteem.

If there was actually nothing to talk about, they wouldn't talk about it. But the gong show continues, and therefore there is ample opportunity to talk about the stupidity surrounding their continued existence.

I dunno…. The door swings both directions and some in the Canadian media seem to like getting smacked in the nose from walking into it.

tsn talking heads saying that the coyotes should be exempted from hockey related revenue..

Will Coyotes sell out Mullett Arena?

Simple answer is the players union didn’t negotiate a right like that into the CBA. There’s no bargained minimum seating capacity or revenue generation for a team in the CBA.

The players union can be irritated by the small temporary arena. Just like the NHL can be irritated by the player union refusing to temporarily reduce salary during the Covid seasons when HRR cratered, leading to our multi year flat cap.

In both cases one party disliked the outcome while the other was fine with it. That’s often how collective bargaining works out.

Free agency starts July 1 and pretty much dies down after about 2 weeks. Training camps open mid-September. So you've got to fill a few hours a day for 5 days a week for 2 months. If you have a 3 hour show. That's 15 hours a week for 8 weeks. That's 120 hours. You're talking about 3 minutes out of 120 hours. That's not an obsession.

It’s hard to foresee every possibility. Like the original cba coming out of the 2004-2005 lost season they didn’t limit contract terms or count all way one contracts thus a few players were sent off to Europe or buried in the A to be 100% rid of the cap charge.

TSN was noting that this is at least a 3 year obligation if they do get to build the new arena in Tempe. How much of a hit does that cause to HRR? Is it $60 mill? Which means $30 mill to the players thus the cap would be $1 mill higher? If it’s $30 mill that’s only $500k more on the cap. But given how tight the cap has been every little bit matters.
But the players also helped to do this to themselves. Didn’t want to take the hit short term for the 56 game season. Spread it out over multiple years.

Actually our sports radio up here on the “left” coast has no listeners unless they talk hockey. So they will talk about US based hockey teams (Coyotes stuff included) before NFL, Baseball, and basketball.
As for the Coyotes not selling all their tickets talk up here is about traveling to watch our teams play down there and see them up close in that little rink. IMO that would be an awesome experience.

I was just pondering how long it will take before players are asked after playing a game at ASU how the experience was. Can’t wait to hear Brad Marchand’s take (and he’ll probably have a lot of cheeky takes before during an after 😂)

Michael Graber still lives in Phoenix and was interviewed about it last week. He understands the situation isn’t ideal but also said as a player on the ice once you’re in the middle of the game it’s only how loud the crowd gets that gets your attention. A crowd of 5000 in a 17,000 seat arena won’t give you much but in a 5000 seat arena it’s a lot different.

Players will notice the difference. They know how a 17k max capacity arena is supposed to sound like and if they are still young enough they recall what a 5K max capacity arena sounds like and can tell the difference. But they aren’t going to be concerned about it during the game.

But they will know.

They are only playing their games there. I recall that pre 2000 the owners built a new practice facility in Scottsdale. If that’s what they still use that will be where the players spend their time.

As fans we will only have this opportunity to watch our teams play NHL regular season games (playoffs?) in such an intimate setting for the next three years. Eastern teams’ fans will only have three chances to see their teams play. It’s more chances for us fans out west. But after these three years this chance is gone and likely won’t come again. IMO that rink will be full every game. Any unsold seats will be bought up by visiting teams’ fans taking a trip to see games in that rink.

How about you mind your own business.
Um this is a forum for discussing the goings on in a professional sports league. Technically the only the business of those playing or employed by the teams. So no one posting on these boards are minding their own business.

Discussing is one thing but being mad and angry and demanding they move is just hilarious to me.

Also the lunacy of prending to know how to make money better than billionaires, who for the most part, made their money and not inherit it.

No…. you just decided to make a spurious drive by comment at me.

But allow me clear something up for you. I’m not feeling any sort of emotions about this whole saga one way or another because whatever happens with the Coyotes is in the hands of people with actual skin in the game.

Just checked Tempe’s website and the Coyotes proposal is currently not on either the executive session or regular council meeting agendas for September 8th.

Always subject to change though.
