Said it in the other thread, but I think I officially hit "don't really care who's picked, just want to get excited to watch things happen" phase a little while ago.

Made peace with the reality that I don't really know anything about who's available outside of what little I've read online, what the Devils' organizational charts on these guys look like, and all the other speculation swirling around the pick is likely a good bit of posturing and/or noise either from teams trying to drum up interest in potential deals or from random ass Twitter accounts following hockey journalists, trying to cherrypick every little bit of speculation and turning it into "SOURCES CLOSE TO (whoever) SAY THIS IS HAPPENING" clickbait.

No matter what happens, this was always a year with no locked down #1 overall pick; there's no McDavid or Matthews this year, nor a Hughes, who was the clear #1 his year even if he's a tick below the former two names. There's some surprisingly nice depth in this draft but a bunch of the names in the top ten could end up going in any order imaginable. Let the chips fall where they may, and let me see an exciting thing or two happen, so long as none of it involves the Devils doing something that's just nakedly and obviously stupid to anyone watching.

And frankly, in the end? I still think Montreal ends up taking Wright.

I can make peace with the 2 Cs, Slaf, or the 2 Ds. No Cutter. No Kasper.

So as more bad news comes out of Russia are you guys changing you're mind on drafting Russians in earlier rounds?

Personally...no.

Still several years away before any of them would be making it over to North American and a lot can change between now and then. Devils would also own their NHL rights indefinitely. If the Russian players start to drop significantly, I still think you take them.

I’d have some small discount on them but wouldn’t remove them completely from my board.

I’d also limit my total exposure so probably no more than 1-2 Russians in my top 4-5 picks.

Cooley wouldn't be bad to drop a $20 or $25 on tbh especially with what Dreger said.
I was just looking at fanduel for the second overall pick:
Slaf went from -162 to -200
Iirc wright was +180 and now is +250
Jiricek went from +520 to +820
Cooley went from +1300 to +820

So still heavily favored for Slaf
The books got some intel that Wright is going first. NJ is taking Slaf second.

There isn't one to consider at #2, but if there was I would pass there.

But say in the 3rd round if a guy considered to be a 1st rounder is still on the board? I'd jump at that.

I would ask though if that player is a Putin supporter. I might avoid those guys all together.

The line moves because of people putting money down on certain players, has nothing to do with the book having intel.
So does the money have intel?

I’m a big Dan Granite guy. Seems like there’s a lot of grit in his game. Good pickup at 14
But does he have hands of “stone” … get it … granite ….stone…
Ill let myself out

I think it comes down to Habs going Wright or Cooley . Teams needing a C just cannot afford to pass on one as usually the only way you get a legit #1 is via the draft.
I just cannot see the Habs thinking that Slafkovsky is THAT much better than Wright or Cooley that they take a winger over a C .

Habs go Wright or Cooley and we decide on Wright or Slafkovsky , where I hope we go Slafkovsky. Too close to call as far as who the better talent is (I think Slaf has a higher ceiling ) so go with the big bodied kid that fills a major need - Slaf . Possibly trade down a spot if you know you want Slaf and a team wants Wright in a big way.

Look, if 3 teams pass on Wright, I think at least 2 of them will end up regretting it.
I thpink the players are so closely ranked that no one can really blame a GM if a pick made later in ends up being the better player.
That’s all I’m worried , gettig the best player possible but that’s almost impossible to know .

Kool Button Hockey Podcast

On his podcast, Button said the Devils should easily say yes to trading #2 for #26, Guhle, and Anderson.

————

Button appears to think Anderson is the big get and I think he’s the worst part of that offer.

Of course he does...that way MTL and the MTL media get #1 and #2 picks and get the best of both worlds with some combination of Wright, Cooley, and Slaf.

Why would NJ do that?

lol. Please let Ottawa make that deal so we never have to hear about Anderson and his boat anchor deal again.

And that is why Mr. Button is no longer a GM or part of an organization.

Usually yes. But if we see some dramatic movement in the lines for various players over the course of the next day, I would suspect something has leaked. Doesn't appear that way yet.

I would expect a guy who's been expected to go #1 for years, but then drops on draft day, to play with a chip on his shoulder. We could see a very motivated Shane Wright if that is indeed how it plays out.

I doubt he's just pandering. Anderson's just the type of guy that dinosaurs like Button put value on.
He's pandering... Even if you do value that kind of player to not acknowledge that his contract is questionable and the mixed bag of spare parts don't hold much value is certainly turning a blind eye to the reality of that package.

But he's not going to say "that's garbage". Just be positive when everyone in the room knows it's crap... even Montreal fans

This sounds pretty f***ing awful. I'm going to need a SN stream and I already hate their coverage but it's likely the lesser of 2 evils

I'm more worried about the Russian kids' human rights than anything else, but they have been working for a dream of playing in the NHL and many deserve to be drafted who will not in 2022.

I don't know if I take a Russian in the 2nd/3rd round anymore unless it's a real home run pick like Miroshnichenko or Perevalov. I certainly would not be afraid to use later picks on players like Barabosha or Dolzhenkov -- the Devils have a trio of 4th round picks and one pick each in rounds 5 through 7.

Guhle is maybe an interesting prospect, at least based on where he was drafted and the #'s he put up in juniors this past season, but as a lhd it trades right into our strength. If he was a righty then maybe this starts to make sense.
