Why wait till the last day to meet with him?

Wright has met with Habs management before, a dinner I believe as did Cooley. Slaf was the only one out of three that didn't.

This isn’t the first time he’s met with them. Slaf’s met with the Habs before.

I don't think Montreal is trying to play 3D chess here with layers upon layers of meaning to their every move. This is probably a due diligence thing that they're meeting with Slafkovsky again, a final look to make sure of their decision.

Yes. that's all it is. But it won't stop the tin foil hat speculators from believing it is................something else!

I was just looking at fanduel for the second overall pick:
Slaf went from -162 to -200
Iirc wright was +180 and now is +250
Jiricek went from +520 to +820
Cooley went from +1300 to +820

So still heavily favored for Slaf

It's not clearly his personal opinion, local journalists do not stick their neck out like this. You have to know how to read this stuff. Lavoie's saying Montreal won't take Wright and is setting people up for that possibility.
No that is clearly just his opinion. They very likely haven’t told him they aren’t.
He’s literally saying he would be so shocked and fall out of his chair if they took because of his disappointing season.

Yet other reporters are saying they’ve just met with him again recently and Hughes is saying it’s between him and the other 2 right now.

That report is nothing more than his own personal opinion. He’s not saying they won’t or that he’s heard they might not. He’s quite literally just saying he would personally be very suprised after the season he had which is stupid.

There’s a huge difference between reporting what you’re heard and the rumours going around and just throwing you’re own opinion out there and that is clearly the later.

It’s not about either, imo.

He’s putting out info the MTL organization wants out there. Why do they want it out there? We don’t know, we can only speculate.
Nothing about that suggest that is the info Montreal wants out there. It’s not even info, it’s an opinion.
The actual info being reported is that Wright just recently met with them and Hughes saying they are picking between him and the 2 others.

No part of that reads that he’s been told that they likely won’t.

He’s just saying it would be shocking to him given his disappointing season. He’s not even saying it won’t happen.
Just putting his opinion out there.

This is without talking about the other dumb part of that quote. Which clearly goes against what Hughes himself and every other fairly reasonable hockey person has said.

You just don't know the dynamic that exists here, plain and simple. Me and Renaud will both be falling out of our chairs if Montreal takes Wright, based on his report (assuming that is actually something he said). The info reporters - Dreger, McKenzie, Friedman, LeBrun, Lavoie - almost never express strong opinions, and when they do, it is someone else's opinion.

Every recent mock draft i’ve seen (ESPN, hockey pdocast, couple other blogs) has the Habs taking Wright which is somehow starting to make me think they go with Slafkovsky.

Cooley wouldn't be bad to drop a $20 or $25 on tbh especially with what Dreger said.

So do we think it is more or less likely someone would want to trade up to #2oa if Slaf goes #1 OA?

On the one hand I'd be really surprised if MTL drafts Slaf because I think when you need a center, and there are good center options there, then you just take the center.

On the other hand, on the Devils app, there was a guy who thought Slaf could play center in the league. He's been the only one I've seen suggest it, but maybe Mtl has included that in their decision making process?

I’m kind of expecting Slaf at 1. Just no mater what don’t give me Cutter or Kasper unless we could somehow trade down and still get a super high upside guy like a Nazar

More, because a team that wants a center probably values Wright or Cooley differently and wants their choice of them.
This is my thought as well, and while I'm wary of the Devils picking Wright, and would rather he just be picked #1oa to take that possibility off the table, my best case scenario for this draft is for the Devils to walk away with one of the RHD plus whatever we get for trading down.

I looked at one of the top 10 lists and saw only a couple Canadian kids. That included Wright who has seen his stock come down since before this season started.

How much of that do we think is due to the OHL shutting down last year, or Canada's tougher covid rules then other countries?

Pronman’s sticking with Slaf at 1 and Wright at 4
This is a strategic move. If he's right, no one will ever forget, if he's wrong, it won't matter for a few years until people start doing redrafts and he has a chance to be right then, which would be as/more impressive.

The only way he gets crapped on for this is if Wright goes 1OA and blows the league away and he looks silly for ever doubting Wright. Even then, not picking the right 1OA will not receive the same amount of crap equal to the praise he would receive if he went this far against the grain and was right.

He did the math on risk/reward IMO.

who the f*** is ricky savoie
From what I heard, our 2OA selection.
