You don’t need to load up and overpay bottom six guys to rebuild thr third line. You can probably play Boquist and Zetterlund on it if you get a good defensive guy to play with them. I just don’t see Tatar working in that role. The fourth line should be fine if Wood is ready to play in the fall.
I agree, and the guys in Utica like Foote, Thompson, and Clarke provide depth.

Now that does make a for a big ole question mark of a 3rd line, but I think the results from this past year suggest it's worth trying, at least in terms of Boq and Z.

Foote, despite his meh #'s in the AHL could have sneaky upside if the transition to a more physical type player pays off.

Things still need to get sorted out, but with Tatar, maybe Johnsson, maybe Zacha, Holtz, Foote, Thompson, Clarke, and I'm actually hoping Greer is kept around, I think we have some really good winger depth already in house.

"If he is drafted by the Canadians, I will be surprised," Renaud Lavoie told La Dose . This guy did not live up to expectations.

“If the Canadiens draft Shane Wright, I'll be happy for the kid , but I'll be very surprised. I think I would fall out of my chair."

Forwards Juraj Slafkovsky and Logan Cooley are the other two players still in the hunt for the No. 1 pick.

And according to Renaud Lavoie, there is something important to consider in the case of Slafkovsky.

"He can play in Laval [with the Rocket] next year and the other two can't," he said. That, for me, is a marked advantage.”

This seems like he's wildly overstating the case. Wright has not fully met the lofty expectations of someone who got an age exemption. But he hasn't turned into a total bum either.

But of course, when you're a pundit, the safest place to be is against something that does happen, or for something that doesn't happen. That way you can always say "I told you so" later.

But no credible source is saying they are hearing that they won’t.

All we’ve seen is some different people with I guess different levels of credibility offering their own opinions. Not saying they’ve told or heard that Wright isn’t the guy. The guy above is just putting his opinion and it’s a dumb statement all-around based on everything we know. There is absolutely nothing to suggest what he said is anything other than his own weird personal opinion and I’m honestly thinking it’s just for clicks and attention.

Everything legitimate including statements from Montreal themselves and the actual reports on what’s going on (such as on meetings) has pointed to Wright being one of the top if not the top candidate.
But what do you expect? An official press conference made by Kent Hughes revealing his pick? Hughes when asked about the pick replied with "Cooley, Slafkovsky, Wright" trio as a generic answer, other than that it's just speculation and we won't find out until the draft night but IMO both Slafkovsky and Wright are very likely picks for MTL.

The fact that reporters associated with the Habs are speculating about them taking Slaf over Wright is fine, it's part of their job, ultimately, the decision will be made by Kent Hughes.

I think more to the point that Lavoie is pretty plugged in but that Montreal isn't giving anything away. I suspect Lavoie knows, and is setting up the idea that it won't be Wright, but he is not authorized to say who it will be.

He's not saying he's turned into a bum. He's saying he doesn't think he will/should go 1st OA.

So many rumors out there now.

This guy on twitter that goes by @MrWhite1079 posted below:

Then there’s Pronman who says Slaf if he’s there, if not then likely Jiricek or maybe Wright/Nemec. Also not to rule out Kasper at 2?!!?!? I mean considering Fitz seems to love to put an exaggerated emphasis on that type of shit it isn’t too too surprising but my god would it be awful

It seems to me that there is a genuine fear that Wright doesn't have a lot of runway remaining on his development curve...

Whereas as Slafkovsky has two miles of runway but nobody is sure if he's landing a Airbus 380 or a Cessna.

Lavoie is a highly highly credible source with the Canadiens. Any poster who tries to refute that either doesn't pay attention enough or is too young to have track record following hockey last two decades (newbie?) or is themselves not credible.

Nothing here is in disagreement with what I said.
Or I’m not understanding what you were trying to say.

In the convo 2 dudes say they didn’t hear this at all, and that Dregs said it’s a debate between Slaf and Cooley.

It’s not about his credibility. It’s about what he said. It’s clearly his own personal opinion and a really dumb take all around.

I’d be fine with Cooley, he’s not my pick, but he’s clearly a great prospect that will help us. With all that said, I’d be surprised if it wasn’t Slaf.

It's not clearly his personal opinion, local journalists do not stick their neck out like this. You have to know how to read this stuff. Lavoie's saying Montreal won't take Wright and is setting people up for that possibility.

Well it’s all in Montreal’s hands. Wright seems like the pick to make but there’s enough credible smoke to where it’s far from a lock and even the unlikely choice

We cannot sleep on Cooley even though it bends a little still to me as a backup plan only if Slafkovsky is taken by Canadiens. Remember, Fitzgerald has close connections to Pittsburgh (where Cooley grew up) since he spent time there and still does with hockey scene there and with USA hockey.

Slafkovsky is my pick, but I’d be ok with Cooley. He’s a very talented player.
