Every NHL team has a right to call themselves an NHL team for a reason. As long as the teams want to benefit from the league, play in it, get revenue, etc. they are part of the franchising. Meaning, they are directly under the order of the NHL rules. These rules are also in the agreement signed by NHLPA and NHL. Crosby is directly under those rules. To act like he somehow is in a vacuum as a Pens player only is naive. Being an employee for the Pens means he is an employee for the NHL too.

Who pays his checks? Since they're all employees of the NHL, Pittsburgh should ask to borrow Ovi, Weber, and Stamkos for their playoff run. I mean they are all employees of the NHL and companies transfer employees to other branches all the time.

You think that is clever? I mean, seriously. This is not some kind of witty debate. If you are ignorant of the facts and realities, that's fine. But these "witty" answers make no sense. Since this is not a subject of debate. It's a matter of facts.

This is stupid, the ASG is a total joke and now the NHL is compounding it's stupid 5 day (way too long) dog and pony show into the regular season by keeping guys who skip it off the ice of actual competitive leagues games, diminishing their product further. What the hell is wrong with this league taking 5 days off for something so dumb when the season is already way too long running from October until June?

It's written in the SPC for every player.

They need to play in this game if they are selected. Fans depend on the best players showing up to the ASG...when that does not happen, there has to be consequences for said absent players.

Crosby should have done exactly what Tyler Johnson did.

You are aware that every major professional sports league has an annual all-star game right? I don't know why so many people are so vitriolic in their hatred of what is supposed to be a care free exhibition game of the league's top talent. Its been a part of pro sports since the 1960s, learn to accept it...

Explain the facts then.

Some people aren't looking at this the proper way IMO.

This is a BUSINESS decision...Crosby made the decision to breach his contract and thus suffered the consequences.

All players are required to participate in certain events if called upon. Failure to do so results in these types of penalties. This is standard stuff. IN fact, I'd say the NHL is pretty lenient all things considered.

You made the decision to post something assinine. Unless of course you're Crosby's doctor and know that he's not injured.

Well clearly the NHL didn't agree since they decided to suspend him.

It really isn't about the injury...it's the fact that he didn't even show up (unlike Tyler Johnson).

Now maybe this is what's best for Crosby and the team. But the decision on the suspension is fair IMO.

I remember hearing about this rule either last year or the year before. It makes sense.

What blew my mind was this though

Crosby only has played in one All-Star Game during his career

Insane that the best player of his generation has only played in 1 all-star game in his 10 year career.

I also think to make the skills comp more entertaining they should somehow get the KHL on board.

NHL have their best players (in the all-star game) go against the KHL's best players in the skills competitions. Maybe makes it a more interesting weekend and the Crosbys and Datsyuks won't sit out.
