You're ignoring the fact that he didn't practice today and wasn't allowed to practice due to the injection. If he would have been at practice today, you might have a point.

Did he know in advance he needed an injection. Because he sure made it look like he was going to play until the last minute. He could've just told everyone a week before.

I absolutely believe that Toews is taking over as the face of the game. He has led his team to 2 cups, multiple outdoor games, 4 all star games and even Crosby talked to him first before accepting the captaincy of the Olympic team.

Sidney Crosby is not an employee of the NHL. He is employed by the Pittsburgh Penguins and his main job should be to help that franchise.

Every NHL team has a right to call themselves an NHL team for a reason. As long as the teams want to benefit from the league, play in it, get revenue, etc. they are part of the franchising. Meaning, they are directly under the order of the NHL rules. These rules are also in the agreement signed by NHLPA and NHL. Crosby is directly under those rules. To act like he somehow is in a vacuum as a Pens player only is naive. Being an employee for the Pens means he is an employee for the NHL too.

Nope. As long as Crosby is going to put the skates on, he is the face of the league. Some new young guns might get ahead some day. But until that happens, it's Crosby.

It's a rule and a ****ing stupid one.

The allstar game is a joke.

Sid should stop doing interviews after every single period in protest.

Seems like a very minor price to pay to forgo the sillyness that is the All Star Game

Crosby gets some extra sanctioned time off which is what he was looking for. Way to show him!

It's absolutely fair and gives him the time to rest up after the injection. Even if it wasn't a rule, it seems like a good idea to sit this one out and make sure he's healed up properly.

Yeah, every single NHL player should just stop honoring their contract and stop all the interaction with fans and media. In fact, the best thing would be if all NHL games would be played without audience or media personnel. After the cup finals, we would know the champions are the team that celebrates the win in their home arena.

It might be a stupid rule, but it's not the only stupid rule. Also, everyone else has to play by the book. Why would Crosby be any different?

It makes me mad in general. Not that I'm a fan of the all-star game really, but I loved watching Mario play in them back in the day. I try to get excited by them now with the hopes of Sid doing some of the same stuff. Yet, he randomly gets injured virtually every year. I personally don't get his reasoning. The odds of injury are low. Nobody is playing crazy hard out there - the competition is probably similar to a full contact practice. Not only that, but the heavy hitters / fighters aren't generally in the ASG - it's the finesse players. Yeah, sure, you want that extra day of rest for the 2nd half of the season, but it's not like this one game (which is supposed to be fun) is going to make or break you. Just gets disappointing each year. I think the one game suspension is adequate, but I really just wish he would suck it up and just play in the game and make lots of fans happy.

I don't view it as a big deal. He did not want to go, injured or not. He pays the prize for not going. Obviously the team and Crosby decided that skipping this event (injury or not) was worth the one game he is going to lose. He did the crime and he will do the time. I don't really think any less of him. Crosby does a lot of stuff with the fans already. It's not like he is some hermit who only shows up at game day on the arena.

I get your point though.

This is dumb. What if the Pens were in the tight playoff race and needed every point they can get. Bush League IMO.

Exactly. How could Crosby be so dumb to not at least show up and shake some hands at the ASG so he could help the Pens in that tight playoff race instead of being suspended a game?

I can understand him nursing an injury if that was really the issue, but he could've at least had a presence at the off-ice events or something. Columbus is what, 3 hours from Pittsburgh by car? Probably a 45 minute flight? It should've been pretty easy for him to pop into town, make an appearance or two, and then take the rest of the break to take care of himself. Dodging the entire weekend for what seems to be a minor procedure in the next city over, seems a bit underwhelming for the league's biggest star.

If he's healthy enough to be able to play the game after the allstar game, then he was healthy enough to play a meaningless allstar game.

It is fair as long as it is black and white rule. Which from my understanding it is. So no problem with Crosby being suspended for 1 game.

Yep.

And it's not like anybody can freely give him the excuse that the All-Star game is stupid. The NHL has promoted him so hard, it has definitely helped him with endorsements, so it's not like there's any strong ethical grounds for some passive aggressive no-show. It's a middle finger to the fans to be selective about your participation in that cycle so suddenly, especially when the ASG is possibly the most direct access fans get to players.

I can't blame him for making the decision for his own health and for his team, but I hope the league just stops promoting him so much. He's not a bad guy, but he's also not an interesting or especially likable personality, either. Same with Toews. Great player, but the league has not chosen their faces too well. Give me more media coverage of guys like Voracek, Subban, and Luongo.

I'm actually glad they're holding Crosby to the same standards as other players for a change. He always seems to get preferential treatment from the league when it comes to suspensions.

Make my day.
I think that's what he's saying. As the best player, he really should be at the All-star game for those fans paying to see the best players.

He should have gone and then skated around for 5 min like he didn't give a **** then felt a twinge and left the game. That's what the paying fans want.
