So TB has 2 d men in the top 20 in scoring, eh? Leafs are supposed to compete with that? I'm just hoping Rielly doesn't play the puck like a grenade on the PP.

hockey has always been about balance man. when forwards are having a hard time getting some goals

• some point shots from d-men (tipped, screened, slappers, whatever) can always help
• heck even playmaking ability can help when d-man can join in late or get the rush going to find the late man coming in who is usually not covered because everyone is watching the puck carrier lol

Our d needs to get going. I'd nominate Rielly and Lily to be the offensive d-men and get them going asap to build some chemistry especially nowo that they traded Sandin. Gustaffson if playing IMO should takeover from Rielly on PP#1 unit because we need a pointshot threat otherrwise our PP becomes very easy to defend. Our PP has sucked balls in the playoffs

They have to get JT away from Willy. Move him to the third line, or at least over to the wing. Lafferty didn't have a good game, but I'd still rather see him at 2C (heck, I'd rather see Kerfoot at 2C).

AM and MM can play with anyone - maybe they should take a turn dragging JT around?

1) Leafs took the foot of the gas after the first period, coach could not motivate team
2) Sabres countered Leafs speed up the wings with clogging neutral zone and making entries difficult; leasfs did not try chip/chase or dump/chase hockey and in the process lost possession -> coach didn't see it apparently or didn't care
3) Sabres figured out that leafs were depending on their forwards making plays while not involing their d-men at all when the puck was in sabres zone; clearly seen from having ZERO points last game from d-men where the team scored 7 goals and iced 7 d-men; tonight again the 7 d-men had ZERO points
4) Coach did not bother to call a timeout when he saw the momentum shifting towards sabres as they tied the game at 2 in the third period and in total scored 4 unanswered goals to take the 4-2 lead

I could go on about other crap that these moron of a coach did wrong. He has no clue how to coach on the fly. Leafs' points and wins IMO are in spite of keefe not because of keefe

you have 3 playoff series results to see how good of a "coach" Keefe really is btw...

If youre desperate for a coach to motivate a top 5 team youre looking at the wrong thing.

Cant comment on the specifics of their game play, since i didnt watch a ton, but they usually over activate their D.

Beside our having AM, MM and Willie having more ice time, what other benefits are there for 7D?
Our D are usually in chaos when we play 7D.
Think we only won 3 of 5 when we played 7D.
Of which only one game had the Leafs limited the opposing team to 2 goals or under.

I think they should have sent Murray to the AHL for conditioning stint instead of just letting him play with the Leafs bc he is clearly not game sharp.

Stop with the 7Ds and most importantly stop with putting Kerfoot on the first line and playing Holl.

As much as I am excited about all the TDL additions, I don’t think the team can go anywhere with Kerfoot on the 1st line and Holl playing big mins on D. They might beat TB or even Bruins after that but that’s about it.

Our next two games will be a good assessment of the team but most importantly how Keefe adjusts the lineup.

Such a bad looking defense.. Goalies are question marks... And Dubas goes and spends deadline assets another high paid center for his top 6. "Gotta help those 11 million dollar players out". Sure he got a great discount... But the defense and goaltending is pathetic. Given we have three 11 million dollar forwards and an 7 million dollar one... If they were worth their salt, Dubas would've been able to beef up other areas. I love the Oreilly pickup, but that backend is just sad.

Imagine this team playing 16 complete playoff games.

I can’t either, and the more I think about it, the more I believe it’s because of Keefe, or whoever is in charge of lineup decisions. This 11/7 shit has to stop. And why did Dubas give Rielly the contract he did, but yet it’s so difficult to find a partner he can play with? McCabe and Brodie were looking like we would have a shutdown pairing, but it looks like Rielly can only play with Brodie.
Here‘s hoping we at least see playoff Rielly again.
As for effort, it seems this happens way more often than it should. Look at last Saturday’s embarrassing effort against McDavid and the Oilers. This team, year in year out, has lost way too many games to the bottom feeders. And it has cost them the chance of winning the division title. Of course, last year, we saw how having home ice advantage didn’t do us any favours. This team has lacked that killer instinct for 3 straight playoff rounds. If ROR and the other additions can’t help get this core over the hump, hopefully new management is brought in and changes are made to the core.
